MacBook Pro :: Freezing After Screen Replacement?
Jan 31, 2012
I recently took my MBP in to get the screen replaced due to a screen separation issue. When I got it back it froze every now and then, but it kept continuing. Everytime I restart the computer after a freeze it will freeze up sooner and sooner. At first I thought it was a RAM issue since it particularly did it while watching videos, so I bought new RAM and it continued to freeze. Tested the new and the old RAM, but they were fine. I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy said it was a failing harddrive. Got a new harddrive upgraded to Lion and it is still freezing. I asked if something could have gone wrong when the screen was replaced and he assured me no and even if something had gone wrong they wouldn't cover it unless the actual screen was broken.Â
If I leave the computer off for a day it will take about 30 min before the 1st freeze, then after restart about 15 min, then 10 min, then 5 min until it will only log in then freeze. what could be causing the freezing and if it would be worth fixing as this MBP needs a new battery, a new drive (since the drive is on loan), and has the flickering screen issue?Â

I just replaced the screen a my mbp. It booted up, it loaded, it ran for about 1 minute then died. Efforts to resuscitate it have failed. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed, no fans, no drives, Nothing. The battery is freshly charged. I have tried the take the battery out and unplug it, press the power button for 5 seconds, Nothing.

I was riding my motorcycle on new year's eve with my brand new 15" 2.8GHz i7/hi-res matte display/8GB RAM/500GB Momentus XT MacBook Pro in my backpack and crashed into a car at 45mph. My MacBook's unibody was bent badly in the corner where the hard drive resides and crushed the hard drive and superdrive and bent the aluminum LCD panel, but left the LCD screen, battery, RAM, and motherboard untouched. The top and bottom aluminum unibody case/panel are destroyed. So I'm thinking of replacing my hi-res matte LCD assembly (LCD plus aluminum cover) with the standard-res glossy version simply because it's cheaper. Is it possible to swap out the displays like this or will it cause a conflict with other components?

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro with the Nvidia 8600M card, and my screen went out. I had my logic board replaced, but my computer just doesn't feel the same. Should I be worried of any other issues?

here's a pic of my screen after a weird rainbow like freeze. After it does this, I can't do anything, and have to restart the computer. This has now happened 4-5 times over the past 2 weeks. Do you think it's a bad video card, bad memory, or what? I can't figure it out.

i've noticed for a while now that everytime i watch videos on my macbook pro, using vlc player, sometimes the video picture would stop, and or stutter, if it would stop, the audio would go on, but the video remains stop, after a few seconds, before the video would resume, the video would be distort or scrambled for a few seconds before it would come back to normal, it had been happening for some time now, i thought it was just the software, so i tried another player, the mplayer for mac, and it still would stop at random times. but last night, after stuttering for every 10 minutes while watching the video, the screen on my macbook pro freezed. i cannot do anything, but my mouse is movable, and the caps lock on the keyboard still lights, but i cannot do anything but to do a hard reset, it is the first time that has happened to me, the screen freezing, and i don't know if it has anything to do with the stuttering of the video.

before I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

Recently my Mac has been extremely unstable. It keeps freezing up and hanging for no reason. Initially a 3 beep would sound off, I ran some tests like the apple hardware one and realised that one of the rams was bad. I bought 2 new sticks of ram and replaced it. Following which, the mac still freezes up and a 3 beep alarm sounded off again.
Currently, I'm trying to turn it on, no 3 beep signal is sounding off but the Mac either keeps freezing and showing a highly pixelated screen or a black screen surfaces. There is some sound coming off from the laptop as well. Each time I switch on the system, it just shows a black screen with no display.
The Mac is a 15'' 2.66 MHz i7 which was manufactured in the mid 2010s.
The 2 new sticks of ram are Strontium 1066Mhz 4Gb x 2 sticks.
In the initial stages: kernel panics were common as well.

Anyone else noticing their new macbook air freezing randomly and the screen just turns completely black? The back light is still on but nothing is on the screen.
None of the buttons work, can't force quit anything, i have to hold power button to turn it off then back on.
It has happened to me twice already, first time when i was installing the adobe suite, second time is when I was working on a school assignment with a simulation app (not cpu or memory intensive AT ALL).

My Mac Book Pro just stopped accepting commands, the screen is freezing on a black screen and the keys have no bearing on the situation. The only way I can get it to stop is pull the battery out. It has been acting funny lately.

I purchased what I thought was an identical replacement screen used for my ibook G4 1.2 ghz. When attempting to install myself, I started to hook the new screen in and noticed I have what I believe is to be 2 power connectors (the connectors with the round pencil lead size connector) where the old screen only had 1. The data connectors were identical.
Do I have the wrong screen, do I use only 1.

I have an old iBook G4 14" (from about 2004 or 2005) that was just replaced by a MacBook. The hinge on the screen is pretty much broken and the screen looks pretty terrible. I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. Is there a way I can completely remove the screen (including the hinge) and have it still be functional?

I just bought a Powerbook G4 off of Clist. The previous owner replaced the screen with a higher resolution screen from a newer Powerbook. The display looks great, except that it doesn't fill the whole screen. There is a long group of colored lines on the right side, and the bottom starts to show the top of the display (it looks almost tiled and shows the screen again on the bottom). I'm guessing that this is just a formatting issue, but I'm not sure how to correct it.

I have the 27'" Imac with slight yellow tint on bottom and grey bar shadow running along the bottom as well. Additionally, the buzzing sound when brightness lowered below 50%. The computer works great otherwise and I don't hear buzzing when at normal distance from screen. My dilemma: Apple has offered to send a technician to my home to replace the screen, and they said that whould also fix the buzzing noise at lower brightness at the same time.
My question is have people been satisified or had better luck with screen replacements rather than simply asking for a new computer in exchange. If I'm simply swapping displays to get the same results, or even exchanging computer to only get the same results or worse, I would rather delay this interaction until a real fix is in place. My current Imac has no dead pixels, and works great except for these issues. HD makes a grumbling noise, but I think WD Black Caviars are known to be a bit noisy.
Any advice on way to go would be appreciated. Swap out display? Exchange computer? Stand pat?

i bought a 13" Macbook Pro (mid 2009) last week and i bought the 2gb/160gb moel. I have upgraded the memory to 4gb and today my 2.5" sata Western Digital Scorpio Blue (500gb) arrived, i followed the steps and replaced the hard disk, however when i turn the machine on i just get a blank white screen, i inserted the Install disk that came with it and i was instructed by the apple staff to hold the c button to book the disk, this doesn't seem to work, also i cant eject the disc either and i have tried holding down the trackpad while starting up.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro, which has served me well since I got it, at least until a day or two ago. At that time, it started exhibiting sporadic black flickering on screen, paired with freezing. At first, everything would freeze except the audio, which would continue playing uninterrupted, and after a minute or so the system would unfreeze like nothing happened. Now, though, it seems to have gotten worse; the system doesn't seem to recover after a flickering episode, and even the audio will get stuck into a one second loop after a while.Â
I tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC. When that didn't work, I tried restarting into Lion Recovery mode with Command-R. For some reason, that sent me right to a reinstall screen, but it didn't matter, because the screen started flickering and the system froze almost immediately after startup. I'm pretty sure that what it froze in was a separate recovery partition, so that should rule out any software issue. I'm guessing that my video card is fried, but I'd like to see what others think; I'd like to avoid buying a video card that I don't need.

I am worried that my computer is heading for a crash. I bought it in January 2007 and it has served me well up until the last couple of months. The screen freezes more and more frequently. Although I have tried all three USB ports on the back, my wireless mouse freezes constantly. (Yes, I have installed new batteries multiple times.) Sometimes there are very brief flashes of black behind whatever screen I'm working on.

I own a Mac Pro (2x2.8ghz Quad Core Xeon, 6gb DDR2 Ram, Nvidia 8800GT, running in 64-bit mode), and a 30" cinema display. I am running OS 10.6.5 at the moment as well.
What happens (and its been happening all day, rarely happened in the past), is that my entire screen freezes up for no real reason, and becomes completely pixelated and nothing but my cursor moves.
The pixelation even makes it through the force shut down and into the grey apple startup screen, the logo is pixelated there as well.
For some reason, I can't seem to reset the PRAM (no second startup chime?), and I can't seem to enter safe-mode either (shift at startup?)
Right now, the problem isn't happening, but at this rate I expect it to start pixelating very, very soon.
Does anyone have any tips?
I have AppleCare, but I need to fix this asap. I'm a photographer and a very big project depends on it (needs to be submitted by tomorrow morning).

I need your opinions; since the 10.6.3 update my iMac has begun to freeze to a blank screen. I think this may be a sign of a dying logic board, however I question this as I don't have the freezing problem with 10.6.2. Picture of blank screen attached.

I have a macmini late 09 and I upgraded the RAM and HDD 2 weeks ago. Suddenly today the mini froze coming out of sleep. O left it for a few minutes but still no luck. Held down the power button and it rebooted. It goes to the apple screen and stays there. I checked the hardware and there are no problems. I then booted in from the older HDD and had no problems. I checked the permissions and repaired them.
