PowerPC :: Display Won't Fill Screen After Replacement On Powerbook G4

Jan 3, 2010

I just bought a Powerbook G4 off of Clist. The previous owner replaced the screen with a higher resolution screen from a newer Powerbook. The display looks great, except that it doesn't fill the whole screen. There is a long group of colored lines on the right side, and the bottom starts to show the top of the display (it looks almost tiled and shows the screen again on the bottom). I'm guessing that this is just a formatting issue, but I'm not sure how to correct it.

PowerPC :: Where To Find Replacement Key For Powerbook?

Oct 28, 2009

I just inherited a Powerbook G4 17" as my work computer. Model number is A1085. It's the 1.5 ghz I believe. Anyway, it has one problem ? the delete key is broken off. Not only that, but the little rubber spring under the key is also gone. Is it possible for me to replace the key, and the rubber nub, without having to buy an entire new keyboard? Any suggestions on where to get a new keyboard if that is not possible? Best price I can find is $85. I'd hate to have to spend that much (or have work spend that much), for a single key.

I work at a newspaper, and I write stories. No delete key is a big problem.

PowerPC :: 12" G4 Powerbook Fan Replacement Or Logic Board?

Nov 18, 2007

My girlfriend has a 12" G4 Powerbook that she claimed was getting really hot. I noticed it was as well, so I installed iStat Pro and saw that the fan was spinning at 0 RPM. So obviously something is wrong. I read a few posts on people having problems with the logic board, which would also cause the fan not to work. However, the computer runs fine, the fan just doesn't turn on when it gets hot. I haven't (and don't plan to) let it get so hot that it would shut itself off or burst in to flame or whatever happens. I understand it's out of Applecare, but I would prefer to fix it myself on the cheap. I'm perfectly capable and willing to replace the fan, but before I crack it open I would like to know if there is a simple way to see if my problem is simply a dead $30 fan, or a $500 logic board.

Mac Mini :: Display Does Not Fill The Screen Without Overscan On

Oct 27, 2009

I just bought my new mac mini 2.53 C2D. And I love it! I have eye tv 3 hooked up and it runs flawless. I tested it all out with my imac to make sure that my wife could use it and would ok the purchase.

The only thing I am kinda sad about is the fact that the display does not fill the screen without overscan on. But if I have overscan on the top bar does not show.

I new about this with my imac but was reassured it was because my imac was 16X10 and that the mac mini would not have that problem. I have a samsung DLP that only does 720p which I am fine with.

Any Ideas to fill the screen? Also 1080i is an option but the screen looks shakey?

On this laptop that I just recently got in a trade it had an hd screen installed on it but for some reason the guy didn't fix the resolution on it to fit the whole screen and I can't quite figure out how on a mac to change the screen resolution to anything higher then what it's about to get to which is only like 1024-768(stretched). Please help me fix this as I assume it's just a program something I need to manipulate the resolution dimensions. I just lack the information in the field of macs, so that's why I'm asking an expert.

PowerPC :: Powerbook Internal Display Won't Turn On With External Display

May 22, 2007

For the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

PowerPC :: Powerbook G4 Display - Serial # Does Not Fall Within The Ones Specified

Apr 13, 2007

I am currently experiencing the issues displayed here... http://www.apple.com/support/powerbook/displayprogram/

However my serial # does not fall within the ones specified. My powerbook was purchased in early Sept of 2004, and I have applecare so it will be up in Sept of 2007.

I am unsure of what I should do at this time and am looking for recomendations of how to handle the situation. I am aware that apple will probably try to say that is it somehow my fault and that i put too much pressure on the lid of the powerbook (as this happened to a friend of mine, and she was actually within the serial #'s that were specified in the link above)

I have kept my powerbook extremely protected (at one point I even had it in a neoprene sleeve inside of a hard sided zip case!) and really don't think it's anything i've done, or wear and tear on the notebook (it's in near mint condition other than a few spots just below the arrow and command keys.)

PowerPC :: 23" ACD Won't Display When Connecting To Powerbook?

Mar 5, 2008

I just bought a 23" ACD and I'm having trouble getting it to work with my 17" Powerbook. I checked it in the store before buying and it worked fine, but at home it's not responding. The display is recognised in Preferences and is giving me a choice of resolutions, the light is on, but I can't get the screen to show anything. I've tried adjusting the brightness to bring up an image to no avail, turning mirroring on, and closing the lid on the Powerbook then waking it again but nothing gives me an image on the 23".

My Powerbook is a 1GHz 17" with a GeForce4 MX 64 MB.

PowerPC :: Ibook Replacement Screen - Too Many Connectors?

Jul 23, 2009

When attempting to install myself, I started to hook the new screen in and noticed I have what I believe is to be 2 power connectors (the connectors with the round pencil lead size connector) where the old screen only had 1. The data connectors were identical.

Do I have the wrong screen, do I use only 1.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Screen Removal (NOT Replacement)

Dec 16, 2009

I have an old iBook G4 14" (from about 2004 or 2005) that was just replaced by a MacBook. The hinge on the screen is pretty much broken and the screen looks pretty terrible. I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. Is there a way I can completely remove the screen (including the hinge) and have it still be functional?

PowerPC :: Display Error When Hooking Up Powerbook To External Monitor?

Mar 7, 2009

irst off, according to mac tracker the Powerbook I have is the Powerbook G4 15 inch FW-800. I am running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6

Alright. About one week ago, I hooked up the powerbook to a 19 inch external LCD monitor with a DVI to VGA convertor, and all was well. It found my supported resolution and everything, worked straight away, etc.

Fast forward to today, at about 2pm (4 hours ago) I was using the computer and everything was working fine, but I had left it on for a few days so I shut it off when I was about to take a nap. I wake up from said nap about 20 minutes ago, turn on my Mac and my external display is only showing up at 800x600. I have no idea how this could have happened. This would not be an issue if my monitor's native resolution of 1440x900 were on the massive list of resolutions to chose from, but alas it is not.

PowerPC :: PowerBook G4 12" Alum 1GHz Display/resetting Pram And Pmu?

Sep 3, 2009

I've recently purchased a broken 1GHz Alum PowerBook G4 12", and the display isn't working. I have a total of two 12" PowerBook displays, and I've tested both. They've worked perfectly fine. Then I've tried reseting the PMU and PRAM, no luck, but they've attempted to work. Tried the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter with my display, still no luck. The keyboard, optical drive, and hard drive works as if it was booting, and there was always a clear chime, even when I've reset the PRAM and PMU (the beep sound when PRAM also attempted). I've inserted a Leopard install disk, and it sounded like it was working perfectly fine. Hopefully it's not a motherboard issue

PowerPC :: 15 Powerbook G4 Screen Is Dim?

Oct 6, 2006

I think my backlight went out?

I restarted and nothing. Still dim. I can barely, barely see things like if I hit expose, I can see shifting rectangles.

Also, I've been having this issue where the keyboard mostly stopped working -- if I hit kjjh, it'll come up as 3443 or something. It's usually fixed with a restart.

I have it covered by a year of applecare until feb 24, 2007 -- but I haven't registered it yet. Should I register and then call apple or what?

This comes at a REALLY bad time. I have design projects coming up everywhere and of course, despite my $250 external hard drive, i haven't been backing things up because I'm an idiot.

Can I hook it up to a external monitor just to make a backup of my hard drive?

PowerPC :: PowerBook Screen Has Too Much Play

Sep 5, 2006

I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.5GHz. As far as I can remember, the screen had almost no "play" when I bought it and now has about 1.25in of "play" when you adjust the screen angle. A guy in my dorms has one and it adjusts very smoothly. Lets say I'm closing the screen to put it to sleep, the screen will come forward for about an inch before there is any resistance from the hinges. What should I do? I bought apple care so I'm guessing that might come in to play. Is this something I can fix or do I just take it to an Apple store?

PowerPC :: Powerbook Blank Screen Appear?

Sep 30, 2006

I've got a 15in aluminium powerbook, a couple of years old. So far I've had nearly everything go wrong with it. replaced screen, knackered hd, ram port failiure, and a battery that lasts 10 minutes.

I recently replaced the harddrive, as the standard issue one packed up a few times. I followed the instructions on ifixit.com website. To my delight I actually managed to do it, and the pb worked well for a few weeks. Then suddenly, the screen froze and faded to white. So far I've tried everything -

Resetting the pmu. Resetting the pram and nvram. Opened it up to check I reconnected everything.
and checked to see if the hd is still working starting it up from another computer, and it works fine. Everythings still there. Someone also said if you hold 'R' key down on start up it resets the lcd.
BUT STILL BLANK!!!!!!!!!

The screen still seems to turn black after a little while, indicating the energy saver is still on. I'm thinking I may have dislodged an lcd connection or something?

PowerPC :: Screen Broken Off A Powerbook G4

i have a friend who has a powerbook g4 (black keyboard) that was sold to him for very cheap, unfortunately the screen was torn off the base of the computer. Its in perfect running condition but he cant take it anywhere because the screen needs to be supported against a wall as it cant stand on its own. Is there any inexpensive way to fix the screen and restick back to the base of the laptop and if the only way to go is get a professional to do it, how much would it cost him to get it fix. He got the computer for 50 bucks so having the computer work perfectly even if he has to spend at most 300 dollars would be great.

PowerPC :: Powerbook Screen Goes Black

Dec 21, 2006

I've got an older 15" powerbook running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (i think). Lately my computer screen randomly turns itself off, the whole think going black, like it was asleep or off, but the computer keeps running just fine. Like i might have itunes playing or be burning a disc and that goes on just fine. The computer itself stays running. What I've been doing is putting the computer to sleep by closing the notebook, letting it rest for a few seconds and turning it back on by opening it back out. This fixes the problem for anywhere from 5 seconds to indefinitely, until it happens again. Lately its been happening more. The computer is 4 years old, but the model itself, probably 5.

PowerPC :: Dimming Powerbook G4 Screen?

Jan 14, 2007

I encountered a problem this evening with my Powerbook G4 15 inch Powerbook. When I was opening the Powerbook, awakening it from sleep it seemed there seemed to be an abnormally bright flash, then the screen went almost completely blank. Luckily, I was able to see enough to burn my docs to a disc in the event this was a serious problem. It seemed the rest of the laptop was fine.

When I restarted the computer, the screen appeared to be fine. I ran Onyx in the event it could clean anything up, and when it was running the screen appeared to go attempt to go to sleep again (although it was not set). Touching the trackpad immediately woke it up without a problem. After restarting after Onyx finished and using it for about a half hour I have not encountered the problem since.

Is this a sign of a failing LCD or possibly a bigger problem or just a harmless isolated event? Is it worth trekking over to the Applestore? I'm covered under Applecare.
