Nov 7, 2006The charger for my ibook just decided to die, It has not worked like it should lately because it's beginning to break around the area where it connects to the mac.
Anyways.. when it died i noticed a tiny bit of smoke coming from either the charger or the ibook. Will things be ok again if i just buy a new charger or is the thing inside the computer fried?
ITunes :: License New Computer After Old One Died?
Jun 9, 2012I have a 2007 MBP that had the video card recall (unbeknownst to me until after the fact, might I add). Last year, the video card went out without warning, and Apple says the only thing they can do is replace the Logic Board, but it definitely will not be covered under the extended recall warranty because the issue happened outside of the warranty date. Anyway, all of my iTunes library on that machine is lost I suppose. I didn't have it synced to my phone at the time due to space issues, so I don't have a copy of the library anywhere except in a Time Machine backup. I don't want to restore this new MBA with the entire backup, only the iTunes library. Is it possible? Or can I just re-download the songs since this new iTunes account is set up in the same Apple ID?

Feb 11, 2012So I've just purchased a mid 2011 Macbook Pro 13" used via eBay. Was advertised as having 500gb hard drive and 6gb ram. I checked the ram and it was all legit, checked the hd capacity and it was all correct as well. So I made a new login for myself and deleted the previous owner's. Now my hard drive shows up as 320gb. Even in disk utility and terminal.

MacBook :: Unable To Charge Battery / Computer Doesn't Recorgnize The Charger
Jun 14, 2008I have had my MacBook (aluminum) for 6 days, and all of a sudden i go to plug it in to charge (10% left) and the led on the magsafe doesn't come on and the computer doesn't recorgnize the charger (even in system profiler).
upon closer inspection i noticed the LED is on on the magsafe, it is just a very faint shade of green.I have tried a charger from a different MacBook but no luck. And i have also tried my charger and a different macbook and it charged it just fine.. so it's probably not my charger.
Any ideas?? i know i can go get it replaced.. but i would really like to not have to take a 45 minute drive to the apple store if i can avoid it.. (unless this problem is serious and should be replaced) also, if i get a replacement is it possible for them to just swap my HDD with the new one?

May 15, 2012I have a 2008 17" Macbook Pro A1261. The other day I was working on battery life and noticed it was about to drain, so I plugged in my adapter. The adapter was not lighting up and I assumed that it had just stopped working. My Macbook is completely dead at this point. I bought another adapter (the newer L shaped ones) and when I plug it in the light comes on green but does not change colour to amber. When I try to power my mac on it does not come on with the battery in or removed.Â
I have tried an SMC reset, holding shift, etc. and nothing has worked thus far. My issue is that how can my macbook all of a sudden just "die" when it was working PERFECTLY fine before the battery drained? I assumed buying another adapter would fix the issue.
Could this simply be because my macbook does not yet have the firmware installed for the new L shaped adapter? If so what steps can I take to install the firmware? I know it is not the magsafe adapter because I have tried two others with no luck.Â

Aug 26, 2010I just replaced the screen a my mbp. It booted up, it loaded, it ran for about 1 minute then died. Efforts to resuscitate it have failed. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed, no fans, no drives, Nothing. The battery is freshly charged. I have tried the take the battery out and unplug it, press the power button for 5 seconds, Nothing.

Apr 30, 2012Will apple replace or exchange this for me? It has never been abused, I treat it with so much care. I didn't even think about getting the extended warranty...I expect my computer to last longer than 2 years. Feel really let down by this.

Nov 16, 2010After 4 years of brave use, the internal HD on my Macbook Pro has died. I'm now looking for a new one to install it myself. It's a first generation Macbook Pro (1.83Ghz - A1150). Also, regarding the installation of the drive itsef: I've seen some guides on how to install it and they seem a little hard to accomplish. My experience with this kind of procedure so far is related to installing ram, which seems to be really easier. Is this something that a non-experienced user can install or shall I think twice before doing such adventures myself?

Jan 10, 2010Last week I bought a new 13" 2.53GHz MBP. I also bought a Kingston 128 GB SSDNow V Series from a local computer store (Canada Computers) and installed it myself. It was fast as hell (startup time, restart time, sleep time, application launch time, etc.) and I thoroughly enjoyed it while it lasted. Last night, I restarted my MBP and got the white screen of death with a question mark on a folder. After several calls with Apple and the local computer store, it seems my SSD is dead and I lost all my data. I installed the original/stock 250 GB HD that came with my MBP and that's what I'm using now. During business hours on Monday, I will phone Kingston for help.
My questions for you guys:Has anyone else had a problem with the Kingston SSDNow dying on them? Or any other SSDs? Apple Care said it could be completely Kingston's fault (ie faulty SSD) or the MBP could simply not be compatible with this SSD (although it worked great for a week). The local computer store said it could be my EFI, but I'm running the latest EFI. What do you think? Should I get a refund on the Kingston SSD and stick with the stock 250 GB HD, or should I get a replacement SSD and hope it doesn't happen again? I'm worried about the reliability now

Aug 16, 2010I was doing my first-ever Time Machine back-up tonight. I have about 130GB of data. About a half hour into it, my battery died and when I rebooted the computer from sleep mode, Time Machine said that the back-up had failed. I deleted the initial back-up in the 'Time Machine Back-Ups' folder, but it still says that I have 40GB less on my external hard drive than I actually do. My external hard drive is 300GB, so I should have 170GB left, but I only have 130GB.

Mar 12, 2012I went to turn on my Macbook Pro and discovered that the battery was dead. I press the button on the battery and the first led light was blinking. I figured that the last time I had used it that I had forgotten to turn it off and it went to sleep and drained the battery. It had also been a while since I last used it so I guess it died and just needed a charge. I plugged it in and left it charging for a few hours. When I finally booted my mac and I check the power status it had Replace Now for the battery condition. The front power light on my MBP was also blinking 5 times before booting up. The system menu also states that the battery had only gone trough 60 cycles. Its been a while since I last booted my MBP up but last time I check the battery was still mark as in good condition. If the battery was completely drained could this cause the issue I am having? Or is the battery truly dead? My original battery barely lasted a year when I had to replace at my cost when the Authorized Apple Service center I went too told me that batteries were not covered by my Apple Care warranty, so now to have a second battery die on me which saw even less use then the original seems strange.

MacBook Pro Running Lion / Battery Died Now Will Not Boot
May 8, 2012I have a Lion-native early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro aluminum unibody running 10.7.3.I was using it an hour and a half ago.I closed the lid, and when I came back to it an hour later, the battery had died.Plugging in to a charger did not wake it.I force shut it down by holding command+option+control+shift and the power button.Now, when I turn it on, I see the white screen for a half second, then it fades to black.The indicator light stays on and solid (not pulsating).I have tried:
- Resetting the PMU
- Resetting the PRAM (white screen for half second, then fades to black, each time)
- Booting to Single User (white, then fades to black)
- Booting to Recovery Mode (white, then fades to black)
I have tried to provide all the pertinent details as well as what I have tried.Please let me know if you need more information.

Jan 4, 2011On Christmas Eve my 6 month old MBP 13" hard drive packed up - got the apple logo and nothing else on boot up. Apple Care phone support couldn't fix so had to send it off for repair (due back this week). I know there are more important things in life, but to have spent a month's wage on a computer and to be let down like this was really disappointing. My last backup was a month ago, so everything since has been lost, and I was without a computer for two weeks. Is this a common fault? What bugged me most was that at no stage did anyone from Apple offer any glimpse of an apology for the floored (and very expensive equipment). I switched from Dell to this and love the computer, and had heard a lot about Apple's amazing customer service. Not what I've experienced.

Aug 11, 2010The Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.

MacBook :: Hard Drive Died - Gray Folder And White Question Mark?
Jul 2, 2009I think the hard drive in my Macbook (2007 Model) has died. My macbook froze and when I restarted I can hear an usual clicking noise and I only get a white screen with a grey folder icon and white question mark inside. Fortunately, I use super dooper to create a bootable clone of my hard drive as a back up. When I attach this and hold down the apple key I boot straight into the clone and the computer runs fine from the external hard drive. If I go to disk utility my computer can not locate the internal hard drive, nor if I go t sysyem prefs-startup disk. Should I assume its dead or could it be a connection problem. I don't have applecare so I'm willing to buy a new hard drive and swap it myself. However, this is making the assumption the hard drive is the culprit. Can anyone else diagnose this problem from the desrcitpion before I shell out on a new hard drive?
