MacBook Pro :: Will A Standard-res Screen Replacement Work?

Jan 4, 2011

I was riding my motorcycle on new year's eve with my brand new 15" 2.8GHz i7/hi-res matte display/8GB RAM/500GB Momentus XT MacBook Pro in my backpack and crashed into a car at 45mph. My MacBook's unibody was bent badly in the corner where the hard drive resides and crushed the hard drive and superdrive and bent the aluminum LCD panel, but left the LCD screen, battery, RAM, and motherboard untouched. The top and bottom aluminum unibody case/panel are destroyed. So I'm thinking of replacing my hi-res matte LCD assembly (LCD plus aluminum cover) with the standard-res glossy version simply because it's cheaper. Is it possible to swap out the displays like this or will it cause a conflict with other components?

MacBook Pro :: Standard Screen Vs High Resolution Screen?

Jun 7, 2010

How much battery life do you loose when going for the High-res screen. Some people are complaining about low battery life with their high resolution screen and I was wondering if there is a connection.

Do the standard screen get better battery life. If so, how much better?

MacBook Pro :: MBP 15,4" Standard-res 1440 Screen Manufacturer?

Apr 26, 2010

Does anyone know the screen model/manufacturer of the new mbp 15,4 inch glossy 1440 screen? The thing is that I recieved my new mbp with the high-res antiglare, and it was just awful, now I'm thinking about getting the glossy standard model, and I'd like to research the screen before I get it.

The reason why I choosed to retun my high res antiglare is that it had a red tone, the vertical viewing angle is WAY WORSE than my 2008 mbp antiglare, the screen was not centered (flush left with a 3mm black line to the right), and the resolution (1680) is simply too high for general use (but perfect for photography, graphic design etc).I normally love anti-glare screens but this one is simply not good enough, even though it's a "high-res" one. Please share your experience with the new 1440 standard-res glossy!

Would also appriciate if someone knew where to get the "old" core2duo with antiglare 1440 option, preferably on sale, since that's still a considerable machine for me!

BTW, if anyone's interested, the screen of the antiglare high-res I received was a samsung (didn't write down the model number before I shipped it back)

MacBook Pro :: 2009 Glossy Screen Versus 2010 Standard Res Glossy Screen

Apr 25, 2010

Is there a difference? Anything at all? I would expect Apple to make the 2010 standard res. screens worse in quality and earn more money since they have the higher res. available. I really like the 2009 glossy screen, but i have to be sure it is exactly the same this year. If they did something like that it's typical Apple.

MacBook :: Didn't Work After Hard Drive Replacement

Feb 13, 2009

I bought a WD 320 Gig 5400 RPM hard drive for my new White NVIDIA MacBook. I stuck it in an external casing, copied everything to it with the "restore" feature, and swapped out the hard drives. I rebooted the computer with the new hard drive, and it didn't work. I did some hard drive swapping last year on my old MacBook and everything was a breeze. I don't know what I did wrong this time.

MacBook Pro :: Freezing After Screen Replacement?

Jan 31, 2012

I recently took my MBP in to get the screen replaced due to a screen separation issue. When I got it back it froze every now and then, but it kept continuing. Everytime I restart the computer after a freeze it will freeze up sooner and sooner. At first I thought it was a RAM issue since it particularly did it while watching videos, so I bought new RAM and it continued to freeze. Tested the new and the old RAM, but they were fine. I took it to the Genius Bar and the guy said it was a failing harddrive. Got a new harddrive upgraded to Lion and it is still freezing. I asked if something could have gone wrong when the screen was replaced and he assured me no and even if something had gone wrong they wouldn't cover it unless the actual screen was broken.

If I leave the computer off for a day it will take about 30 min before the 1st freeze, then after restart about 15 min, then 10 min, then 5 min until it will only log in then freeze. what could be causing the freezing and if it would be worth fixing as this MBP needs a new battery, a new drive (since the drive is on loan), and has the flickering screen issue?

OS X :: Reformating Drive To Standard Format / Standard Usb Thumb Drive?

Nov 28, 2010

All other articles I've seen online and on this site have been utterly useless for information on how to reformat this drive to a standard format. It has to be possible because all it is is a standard usb thumb drive.

I don't care if it gets rewritten as I've made a copy of it, and besides, if I really need the os to be installed again I'll just take it to the Genius Bar to have it done.

I'm looking for someone who really knows there stuff with terminal and permissions and all of that stuff to shed a little light on this subject.

When attempting to install myself, I started to hook the new screen in and noticed I have what I believe is to be 2 power connectors (the connectors with the round pencil lead size connector) where the old screen only had 1. The data connectors were identical.

Do I have the wrong screen, do I use only 1.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Screen Removal (NOT Replacement)

Dec 16, 2009

I have an old iBook G4 14" (from about 2004 or 2005) that was just replaced by a MacBook. The hinge on the screen is pretty much broken and the screen looks pretty terrible. I'm thinking about installing a distro of Linux on it and using it as a file server or media server and connecting it to an external display, but I would like to have the keyboard and mouse readily available and would not like to have issues with overheating because the lid is closed. Is there a way I can completely remove the screen (including the hinge) and have it still be functional?

PowerPC :: Display Won't Fill Screen After Replacement On Powerbook G4

Jan 3, 2010

I just bought a Powerbook G4 off of Clist. The previous owner replaced the screen with a higher resolution screen from a newer Powerbook. The display looks great, except that it doesn't fill the whole screen. There is a long group of colored lines on the right side, and the bottom starts to show the top of the display (it looks almost tiled and shows the screen again on the bottom). I'm guessing that this is just a formatting issue, but I'm not sure how to correct it.

IMac :: Swap Out Screen Or Complete Replacement Of Computer?

May 12, 2010

I have the 27'" Imac with slight yellow tint on bottom and grey bar shadow running along the bottom as well. Additionally, the buzzing sound when brightness lowered below 50%. The computer works great otherwise and I don't hear buzzing when at normal distance from screen. My dilemma: Apple has offered to send a technician to my home to replace the screen, and they said that whould also fix the buzzing noise at lower brightness at the same time.
My question is have people been satisified or had better luck with screen replacements rather than simply asking for a new computer in exchange. If I'm simply swapping displays to get the same results, or even exchanging computer to only get the same results or worse, I would rather delay this interaction until a real fix is in place. My current Imac has no dead pixels, and works great except for these issues. HD makes a grumbling noise, but I think WD Black Caviars are known to be a bit noisy.
Any advice on way to go would be appreciated. Swap out display? Exchange computer? Stand pat?

OS X :: Won't Work With Game Graphics / Can't Work On Full Screen

Jan 12, 2010

I'm on a IMac OS X (version 10.5.8) and I just noticed a bit of a change in the graphics while playing Heroes of Newerth. I left all the graphic stuff on medium quality, and I've noticed now that when it is on full screen the picture is sketchy. When I minimize the full screen (apple m) i realize its a lot smoother than it is in wide screen (no kidding huh?). Before I thought it was just due to me having the IMac wireless, but I've noticed it's been happening for a week already and I usually get better bandwidth when no one is home. So is this a graphics card issue or what and if so how would i deal with this?

MacBook Pro :: How Long Before SSD Is Standard

Aug 5, 2009

We're all used to the idea of technology, memory, price, and TIME. But how long do you think before you can get a 512 GB SSD for around $200? I'm guessing 2 years, and by that time SSDs will become standard and everyone will be asking around that time what could possibly make Hard drives faster. It would even be perfect to replace your old hard drive instead of buying a new computer, just back up your data and re-install the OS and you practically have a brand new computer. And of course by that time there will be SSDs that surpass the current Intel ones.

MacBook Pro :: Solid State Or Standard HDD?

Jun 19, 2012

I am going to get the 13'' MBP, i7, 8gb unit. The question I have is that should I stick with the standard hard drive that comse with the unit (750 GB), or should I upgrade to the solid state drive (desiring 256 gb)?

1. What are the advantages to a solid state?

2. Is it worth the money (trying to stay under $2000 with shipping and taxes)

On my current macbook I have a 250 GB HDD, and I have only used about 100 GB. Size is not the biggest issue, more about speed for me. I am a speed junkie, and I want my computer to perform to it's highest ability. I don't use any heavy intense application, or I am not a computer gamer. Although I know that these are the primary uses, I want the computer I am going to buy to last me several years and to maintain its speed when I use application. I also highly doubt I will use any where close to 200 gb.
