Dec 1, 2014I've recently bought an external hard drive that works on Thunderbolt 2 (LaCie d2 3TB). When I connect the new drive to my Macbook Pro through the thunderbolt port, the drive isn't recognized. However, the drive works fine through a USB connection. I thought that Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are compatible, however this doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe it's because the OS X / driver / firmware version that I'm working on that is not updated? I work on an early 2011 Macbook Pro, OS X Snow Leopard.

2011 Macbook Pro Connects To Internet But Safari Doesn't Work
May 8, 2012I am haveing and issue conencting. The probelm is when an ethernet connection is working Wifi is not, when Wifi is working ethernet is not. The issue is the netowrk control panel says Im always connected through wifi and ethernet 100% of the time but Safari or Firefox will not load a web page. It is strange because in Terminal I can ping any website. I'v restarted the router, the computer, I have even reloaded the OSX Lion. I have al the most up to date definitions. From a little bit of reasearch I see this is a ongoing issue and it is very frustrating. It is not a netowrk issue all my other devices work perfect when connected to wifi. 3 windows machines ipad iphone etc. Is the network card bad on the late 2011 macbooks?

Apr 30, 2012The screen of my MBP 13 was shattered over the weekend, so I'm rigging up an external screen to tide me until I can fix the glass/LCD at the end of term. I have purchased an Acer P196HQL display and the MBP recognizes it, but the external display says 'No Signal'. I went to the shop in town where I was given a Thunderbolt/Mini to DVI-D convertor which then has a DVI-D to VGA convertor to connect to the external's VGA port. My MBP has Intel HD 3000 Graphics 384 MB graphics and is a GPU type, if that's relevant. I'd love to be able to revise for exams off of this laptop.

It does not accept the product key provided in the box (ordered from amazon). I have tried virtually every possible misprint/mispelling of the product key... but the product key seems to be easy enough to read to me...
Microsoft's site has no support number listed. Microsoft assigns you installation a unique number, then does not accept it for help on the support site.
Office 2011, you are a steaming pile of crap, and it will be a cold day in hell before I buy another Microsoft product.

But when I take it out and plug it back in, it doesn't seem to charge. I would have to remove my battery and place it in again for the charger to charge my macbook. I don't think the charger is the problem because it charges on my macbook Tiger fine.

Mar 2, 2008I've had my macbook for about 15 months. i noticed a while ago it had trouble turning off completely when running only on the battery. then a few weeks ago it shut itself off and wouldn't start up again. the power cord indicator was orange, but nothing worked. ordered a new battery, that didn't help. tried a different power cord - nada. i took it in to an apple repair shop and they said something about the internal power connector (i'm not a techy) and took 2 weeks to repair. i've had it back 3 weeks now and the same thing has happened. only this time there is no indicator light on any of the power adapters. and my partially charged batteries do not work on their own either.
any ideas? i don't want to keep fixing the same thing and every few weeks it keeps breaking again. i mean, what's the point in having the computer then, right??

Then I unplugged it from the power supply and after I closed the lid, it went to sleep. Then plugged in power supply again and sleep didn't work.

Power Mac :: G5 Doesn't Boot To New Image?
Mar 8, 2012I'm attempting to install several PowerMac G5s with the same image. All the PowerMacs are the same vintage, and two of the four seem to work just fine. The other two have the same issue.
I created a model machine that's suitable for cloning: installed and updated all necessary software, configured system settings, and then used Disk utility to copy the model system to a read-only disk image. I then used the Disk Utility application to prepare the system image for deployment by Scanning the Image for Restore.
I then restored the image to hard drives with Disk Utility. I placed in the four HDs in the PowerMacs. Two of the PowerMacs booted without a problem, the other two won't boot to the restored image. I tried holding down Option key when booting, and option to boot to the drive never shows up. Also tried resetting the PRAM, but that didn't work either.

Nov 13, 2007Since I tried to install Leopard and uninstalled it again as it has to many bugs (at least with my configuration) my external LaCie 500 Gb USB drive for back-up doesn't show on the desktop anymore. In disk repair the drive appears and repair shows "no problems". On an other internal disk I still have Leopard installed, and if I boot my G5 under Leopard the disk is visible and works fine.

Jul 2, 2012I have an old Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 (aluminum tower). When it boots up, I get a message that the Date & Time are no longer correct. I go into date and time settings and reset them, however when I shot down and reboot later, the time has been reset to June 1969 or some similar date. Also, when the computer shuts down, it cannot be rebooted immediately. If I try to reboot it, I hear the fans start up and drives start spinning, but then they all seem to power down (a red light can still be visible inside. If I shut it down and wait 15 minutes, it will boot up fine, however the date/time has reset to 1969.
I have done the obvious things like replacing the clock battery and resetting the pram and smu, but still no joy. I suspect a hardware fault of some kind, but don't know what to try next.
