May 13, 2010I own a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz and my problem happend like this:Last night I stopped playing SC2 and closed my MBP, then this morning I noticed that while it was closed, it had not gone to sleep mode, or at least that's what I thought, because it was too hot and the fans spinning hard. I openned it and showed no video, but remained on. After a 5-sec power button restart, it flashed the sleep indicator once and did nothing else, except for the HD spinned for a sec.I took the battery off and gave the computer time to cool off, because I sensed it way too hot.After I reinstalled the battery, I was able to turn it on the normal way, it worked just fine, but later I closed it again and when I openned it, it showed no video again.I repeated the process of letting it cool down, but with no effect this time.The sleep indicator turns on once and it does nothing.I tried swapping the memories, resetting the SMC, tried booting pressing control + command + r + p, tried booting without the battery, tried booting without the magsafe, nothing has worked.Now what happens when I press the power button is I hear the HD try to spin for half a second and the sleep indicator turn on once.

Jan 16, 2009I recently received a Power Mac G5 from work. They told me I could have it, but reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS was on me. So, I took it home, and plugged it in to turn it on, and the white light on the front blinks 3 times and then stays steady... and then blinks 3 times again... and so on and so on.
The RAM that came with it was bad, so I put in 2, 1 GB PC3200 sticks in it. Isn't it a RAM problem?

May 3, 2008This is something that has happened since my initial installation of XP on my bootcamp partition. Whenever the light sensor detects low light, the backlight turns on at full blast. This is normal. However, when I go to turn the backlight off completely (as to save battery or if I'm watching a movie in windows and I don't want to see the keyboard lit up) it turns it down, but not completely off. Even though the backlight indicator claims that it is down the whole way, it never completely turns off. In OSX when I do this, it turns it completely off whenever I set it to the same setting.
has anyone had something similar in their MBP or any ideas of what is wrong? Is it just something with the drivers?
MacBook :: Won't Turn On No White IR Light And The Fan Doesn't Respond?
Mar 6, 2010So this morning I woke up and went to press the power button of my Macbook, but nothing happened. I noticed that there is no white IR light and the fan doesn't respond. I checked the battery, it was at full. The power cable was also green when i plugged it into the Macbook. However, it still wouldn't turn on.
Just a general comment, I use the Macbook as a printer server and to browse the internet, so nothing intensive is forced onto the Macbook.So then I tried resetting the SMU, didn't work. I tried turning it on with only battery , and then with only power source, both didn't work either.I have never spilled anything on this macbook, never dropped it, smashed it, or abused it in any way. However, it is 2 years old and I never bought Applecare (Usually, if something is defective, it will show within the first 30 days). I assume it's a logic board failure, and it's going to cost around 700 to fix (which i'd rather just get a new macbook).
I was wondering if anybody know of a reason why the logic board broke, or if there is any remedies that i haven't tried yet?Also, I'm thinking of pawning it off on ebay and then save up and wait for the Macbook Pro refresh. Does anyone have an estimate on how much I can get for a broken Macbook (screen is fine, 4gb of ram (i might replace it w/ 2gb instead) 250 gb HD (might replace with 80gb HD instead), 2.0 ghz c2d (prbly useless cuz the logic board is fried)
PowerPC :: G5 Won't Turn On ... Blinking Power Button / White Light Every 4 Seconds
Jul 21, 2009I have a G5 dual 1.8 power PC...Bought some ram put it in & booted up. Then a red light came on the logic board behind the power button. The machine wouldn't turn on....I called apple care & we rearranged the ram, now the red light is gone but my system still won't boot up. The white power light blinks every few seconds... the apple store told me sorry can't help because your machine is vintage. Even if my logic board is fried is there a place to buy one on the cheap?

Sep 16, 2009my power cord comes unplugged. my battery is 100% charged, and yet whenever the magsafe comes unplugged the whole thing shuts down. I notice the sleep light blinks rapidly a few times then when my cord goes back in things restore? Edit: My macbookpro is a Unibody which is less then 6 months old. I received it as a replacement unit from apple (due to a lemon macbookpro i originally had) Which i figured means that the battery cant be bad, i take extremely good care of my computer.

Power Mac G5 :: Monitor Blinks And Everything Gone From Desktop
Oct 14, 2007I have a acer 22"Widescreen monitor connected to a G5 Dual thru the DVI port on the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card. Last night while opening windows &/or scrolling thru info. The monitor would blink and then POOF the windows disappear along with everything else on my desktop including hard drive icons! (the top menu border was still there, I don't remember if the dock survived)
After this happened a couple of times, a couple of restarts and letting it sit for an hour or so, I found that if I touched places on my desktop, randomly, the items that would normally occupy that piece of real estate would become visible. The phenomena hasn't happened today but I'm trying to isolate any problems before they become unfixable.

Mac Pro :: Red LED On Daughter Card Blinks With Power On...
May 17, 2009I just installed 8GB in a early 2009 2.66 Quad (I know I'll lose triple channel) but now it looks like there is a red LED on the daughter board that blinks when the power button is pressed. It also blinks for a second when the computer shuts down.
If you have a surge protector, I know there are two red LEDs on the mother board that blink when the surge protector is switched on (right under the optical drive). I think those are normal since it's been that way from the very beginning. But I don't ever remember seeing the red LED on the daughter board light up when the power button is pressed. The LED is just left of the large heatsink, and it is not part of the LEDs associated with the RAM or Riser.
MacBook :: Macbook Not Starting - Charger Light Blinks Green?
May 12, 2010I have a 2 year old macbook that has generally worked well. About 4 days ago, I put it to sleep and didn't touch it again until yesterday so the battery had obviously been drained. I've done this before in the past and whenever I plug the charger back in, the computer starts right up, no problem. This time however, the macbook won't start up, the charger is a solid amber color for about 3 seconds before switching to a blinking green. The screen blinks black (as in I don't even hear the chime and get the gray startup screen) and the little white light in the front blinks quite rapidly. I've tried resetting the PMU several times to no avail. I've taken the ram out and tried each one individually with no changes. I checked the ram carefully as well and they don't seem fried or anything. I've tried plugging the charger in with the battery and without the battery and the result is still the same.
I have another friend here with a macbook so I'm going to test it out with her charger this weekend as well as charge my battery in her laptop and then pop it back into mine and see if it works (although this is really a last ditch attempt on my part).
Any ideas on how to fix it or what the problem is? I don't live in the States so going to a Genius Bar isn't an option.

May 30, 2012The problem is this: when I try to turn off my IMac, the desktop disappears and the display becomes white, without anything else. It may stay in this way for several hours, maybe days.
I only can turn it off by pushing the on/off button for ten seconds. The start up is also very slow.

Intel Mac :: Won't Turn On SMC Or Power Pack?
Apr 13, 2012Using my iMac today working away and all of a sudden the screen went black, there was no power to the computer at all. I have checked the fuse and that is ok. I am getting power to everything else. I reset the SMC as per Apple instructions on their website. Again nothing.Â
I then left it turned off for a good 5 mins and then turned on the power. The fans turned on and the mac then chimed, the creen came on and I thought everything was ok. Then the computer turned off, fans and hard drive sped It didnt even start booting to the Apple logo or the log on screen.Â
I am thinking this is a power issue within the computer and this will need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My iMac is a 2008 21inch iMac. It is connected to a APC UPS which again all power ports are working, as I have tested that with a desk lamp. What I do normally is turn the UPS when I have shutdown my Mac in the evening and then power it up next day. While the UPS is doing is power self test I then boot the Mac, I am wondering if I should just leave the UPS turned on all the time and just unplug my iMac when I am not using it. Sometimes I do pop it to sleep last thing at night, but recently I just turn it off. Â
It has had heavy use so I am wondering if it is indeed curtains and I need to buy a new iMac. Maybe it is an excuse to buy a 27inch one! (Would be nice)Â

I guess I made a mistake by doing a "soft" power down last night, because this morning it will NOT turn on. I've tried using the power button and waiting. I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in, and then using the power button, and waiting. Nothing works. I've been a PC user for 20 years and just bought this, my first Mac, last night. I think I've made a huge mistake! How the heck do you turn these things on????

Jun 19, 2008I have a 20" intel-based dual core Mac which i have had for about since early 2006, i haven't had any big issues with it until a few days ago when it suddenly shut itself down and refused to power back up. I ran through the checklist that Apple Support provides, including resetting the SMC by unplugging everything and waiting 15 seconds or so but none of it worked. Eventually I just left the power cord unplugged overnight and in the morning I plugged it back in.
After having the power cord plugged in for a few hours and the machine turned off, i tried pressing the power button again and to my amazement it powered back on! Immediately i ran the TechTool Deluxe software that came with my extended protection plan (now expired) and everything was fine. Later that night however, I had left my computer on for a few hours before returning to it and realizing it had shut itself off again. Now I am back to where I started, going through the checklist provided by Apple and am really starting to get concerned. Does anyone know of anything else I can do, short of taking it in to an Apple store? Or is something needed to be replaced?

Jul 1, 2009my iMac won't turn on. The day before yesterday happened the same thing, but after a few tries with the power button, it eventually turned on - and all ok yesterday. Both the day before yesterday and today, the general power was turned off for some minutes, but the iMac wasn't running. So now, I've tried to reset the SMC, removing everything attached, but nothing.
At least I can clearly hear the tic tic tic button, probably of the timer, because I set up a schedule to let it turn on at a certain hour. What can I do? It's a white iMac, never had a problem.

Apr 13, 2012The on light at the front of the base (right edge) went out. I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch. The apple on the cover side of the monitor still comes on. Oddly enough, this happened right after I installed a trial of Photoshop version 13.0.0 Beta. Should I just have the light replaced or could this be a signal of other problems? I don't have a lot of new stuff installed since I'm coming from a pre intel mac desktop.

Power Mac :: G5 Turns On But No Power Light
Feb 5, 2012Today I turned on my G5 to recover some files off an old iMac hard drive (can't very well read HFS+ using Windows), and my G5 refused to boot. Your press the power button, the power light flashes normally when you press on the button, but it powers on but the power light never comes on and there isn't a "bong" sound. The fans come on normally, but after a while the fans start picking up speed until they are at full speed.
I tried swapping ram, no change. Pulling ram, no flashing lights, pulling air deflector shield, full speed fans and red light (tells me something is working at least), swapping the video card, pulling the video card and still nothing. The 17" Studio Display power button works to turn on the system, but it has no light either saying the computer is on.
Based on the full speed fans after a while, I'm willing to say I have a failed processor, but that is just a wild guess as I don't normally work with Macs. The system is a Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5 with 2 gigs ram, 80 GB hard drive, Plextor PX-712A DVD burner (I got this with a DVD-ROM), stock Radeon 9600 Pro and an Airport Extreme card. It runs Mac OS 10.5.8 and has worked great up until today.
