My macbook (early 2008 model). Looks like my disk drive isn't working correctly; I put in a new hard drive. I went to reinstall Snow Leopard then upgrade to Lion. Ever since then my mac only seems to work in safe mode. I used my imac to load snow leopard (with firewire); and downloaded lion from app store. Is there a way to wipe clean and start over? There is nothing on the computer that I need. I keep all my important files on an external hard drive. My big concern is I don't know how to do it and second since I don't have a disk for lion will just going back to app store allow me to re-download or will I have to pay 30 bucks again.

My start up disk is my hard drive.Â
Whenever I take the hard drive out my laptop just stops working and it's back to normal when I put the hard drive in, is there a way for me to use my laptop without having to physically have my start up disk (hard drive) plugged into my laptop?
I have a Macbook Pro . The hard disk failed smart disk and my laptop does not start any more. Is it ok if I replace the HDD with CGET or WD hard disk rather than the apple hard disk. the pros and cons of a non apple HDD.

I am giving my MacBook to a friend. I want to wipe the disk of all my information and then set it up in her name as a user. ??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro which was originally supplied with OS X10.4.9. I have upgraded using disks purchased from the Apple store to 10.5 and subsequently 10.6. More recently I upgraded to 10.7 using the download from the online App Store. I would like to perform an Erase and Install to get rid of the 'dross' on my hard disk and may do this as part of the 10.8 upgrade although have yet decide whether to wait for this or not.Â
when doing the erase and install, do I have to start from scratch by loading the original 10.4.9 OS X version or can I start at 10.7. If the latter how would I do this given that I don't have a disk as it was downloaded from the App Store?

My iMac does not start up as usual. I now get a ' start up disk is full. You need to make space available on your start up disk by deleting files' message. Â I am able to key my log on password however I just get the purple galaxy screen with no desktop.Â
If I try to use the keyboard I get a tone when pressing the keys. Â
Has worked perfectly well up until I got this dusk full message. Â
I bought a iMac P4 and the person gave me their profile password - only it doesn't work so I can't change anything or set up my own profile.
Is there a way I can wipe the hard drive and start afresh? I have the three OS X 10.2 discs.
I have (Yosemite) Mail linking into BT. I have a problem that occurred with Mavericks and continues with Yosemite Mail. Mail works fine for a month or two then goes wrong... almost a pattern! Usually I put it right by deleting the account and set it up again and it works for a while. I am so frustrated because I do not understand the intricacies of software and programming. Now it is refusing to send emails in both my and my wife's account. iCloud works (after I deleted and set it up again). But I need our BT separate accounts. Is there a way of deleting all the old bits and pieces of files that might be 'remembering' bad settings and starting again?

I followed instructions from Apple and reformated a second boot drive with GUID partitions, loaded my Snow Leopard OS and updated to the last version. Downloaded Lion and installed, set this second HDD as the new boot drive and waited - one monitor came up but then nothing happened for so long I went away. This has happened three times now and while I'm not watching my MacPro Xenon 8 core reboots from the Snow Leopard drive..

So I've been getting the "Your startup disk is almost full" warning notice pretty frequently for about a couple months now, and I just keep deleting files and applications. It's gotten to the point now that I have nothing else to do delete because I basically use most of the stuff I have on my computer, unless there is something I'm missing. I was thinking, there has to be an easier way to clean out your startup disk, I just don't know how.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having huge problems with new monitors holding a calibration. My tech at Lacie has recommended starting up from the startup disk with basically a 'clean' finder so we can determine if I am having a hardware or software issue that is causing the problem. I can find no way to do this however. Is there a way to do this other than installing the OS on an external hard drive and booting from that?Â

I keep getting a message that the start up disk is full on my macbook. I can't upload any more pictures or videos. I've only had my macbook for about three months and it says that there is only 10GB of 130GB memory left. I haven't got that much stored on it, maybe a few videos and 3,000 photos. I can't believe the macintosh disk is full. I have installed the new operating system, so could it be that?Â

i have looked all over, and i cant find a simple way to clean install with the SL disk. The screen shots i've seen on engadget shows just "update".
I currently have leopard installed, and time machined everything. I just wanna clean install snow leopard, then navigate into my time machine folder via finder and manually bring over a few files.
