I have had my imac for 8Â months with 500gb space. It is saying my start up disk is full and when I check where the space is allocated 435 is in mail. I have tried deleting mailboex( I do have 4, 2 are IMAP and 2 normal) But the beachballs just roll.

I have an eMac with a PPC G4 processer. 1GB ram, using Mac OSX 10.4.11.
recently I tried to split a Youtube video clip into 2 segments. Unfortunately I input the wrong instructions and ended up with over 3700 4kb files on my desktop. Totally overloaded.
Is there any way I can delete these 3700 files without trashing other needed files on my desktop?

Yesterday I deleted enough files to give myself at least 2 gigs of free memory and yet today when I opened up my macbook it tells me I have only 190MB left, and yet none of the files that I deleted remain on the computer, and my trash is completely empty.Does anyone know of any sort of 'Detox' kind of program or method to get the Macbook to reanalyse how much memory it really has left? It's done this before, but I haven't figured out a way to snap some sense back in the harddrive to remind it of the fact that it deleted those large files ages ago.

I've recently gone through my computer, archived my old files and moved most of my media files on to an external drive. I've installed Onyx to clean up log files etc, but I can't seem to find where (or what) the "other" files are. About this Mac is telling me that there's 220GB of "other" files on my start up disk.
