I moved my documents folder to my desktop and it disappeared and then i found another folder for my documents and moved it to my dock. And then a icon for my documents ended up on my desktop. When I delete the documents folder on my desktop the format for all my .rar files change to .vlc format. And if I keep the documents on my desktop the files are alright and I'm still able to use it. I tried changing the type of format but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I can do to delete the documents folder off of my desktop and keep the format the same??

View 2 Replies View RelatedA while after I installed Snow Leopard I started to notice odd glitches I can't think how to describe them. They appear randomly and don't follow anything specific. Anyway has anyone else experienced these? They only started appearing once I had snow leopard installed. I have an early 2008 Macbook 2.4 GHz with an Intel GMA X3100.
Here are some screenshots so you can see what I'm on about.
Can I move the clock and calendar widgets from the Dashbouard to my Desktop screen - not the 'Dock.
I note I can buy alternative versions for the Desktop from the app' store.

I've had my 27" iMac (3.06GHz) for a few weeks now and yesterday I noticed some weird artifacts appearing on the screen, very randomly.
They will pop up all over the screen but if I "Show desktop", they will go away for a bit but sometimes reappear again in different areas of the screen. I restarted the computer but that only temporarily fixed the problem.
Anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?

I have an early 2008 Imac with an Nividia 8800 GS graphics card. It apparently failed two weeks ago, and I just got the machine back after the Apple Store replacing the card. The only graphical glitches I had on the Imac, was the faint line that would run across the screen that you could see on a white background if I left a program's window opened to long; and when using Safari, while encoding a dvd, trying to open up a new tab I would get images of whatever I was encoding in the new safari tab for half a second. Then it would correct itself and bring a blank safari page.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHowever, before we did that we wanted to make sure all her documents/settings were on the MacBook Pro. So I went ahead and wiped the old MacBook Pro clean and then used Migration assistant from the MacBook to move all of her documents and settings. Needless to say this was the easiest migration I have ever done to a new system. And I am extremely happy that I work in an environment is mostly made up of Macintosh computers. So while all of you here know that Migration Assistant is the best, I am mostly writing this thread for those who do not yet own Macintosh computers
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just recently received my new iMac 27" i7 and have the SSD + HDD option, where the SSD contains OS + Applications and the HDD contains data. I read that moving the whole Home folder was not a good idea, therefore, I wanted to just move my Documents, Pictures and Download folder to the second internal HDD. I read an article/tutorial how to do this and this is what I followed (using Terminals):
Code:
cp -Rp ~/Documents /Volumes/Macintosh Data HD
chmod -R -N ~/Documents
rm -rf ~/Documents
ln -s /Volumes/Macintosh Data HD/Documents ~/Documents
However, when I try and type the symbolic link I get the error:
Code:
"ln: Documents: No such file or directory"
Because of this, the Documents folder on the Dock appears with a big question mark as it cannot locate the new Documents folder.
Any ideas how I can get the link working or if not try and restore the original documents folder and just move the entire Home folder over to the Hard Disk data drive?
(note: I don't have any documents in the folders as of yet so I haven't lost any important info!)
I want to move my pictures, movies, music and documents folders to another internal drive. I read in this post that it should be a simple manoeuvre to move the pictures folder to another location and replace the pictures folder in the old home folder with an alias pointing to the pictures folder in the new location. I thought perhaps I can follow that procedure also for the other folders.

Losing iDisk really stinks. What, exactly, are we paying for with the "cloud"? The iDisk was the only thing I really used except for e-mail, which is available free. Anyway, enough griping. Is there a way to move the contents of iDisk directly to the "documents in the cloud" feature?

I just bought a Macbook Pro a couple of days ago and this is my first Mac. This may be a dumb question, but remember I'm new to Mac.I just installed a printer and it placed a folder on my desktop. It seems logical to me that this folder should be on Launchpad. Can/should I move this folder to Launchpad and if so, how?

View 4 Replies View Relatedthere are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. I don't lose any of my information though when it does that. It just goes into a sleep mode I guess? Anyways, is this a feature from the lion update? Something standard?

I didn't put the my documents folder in the trash can and empty the trash. I accidentally took it off the dock, so I went into Macintosh HD in order to put it back on the dock. I went under the "my places" tab and clicked and dragged the my documents tab, but I accidentally let go of the icon before it got to the dock and it disappeared. It was showing the little crumbled up piece of paper icon before it disappeared. So I don't know how to get the my documents folder back. It isn't anywhere on my desktop and it isn't in the Macintosh HD under the "my places" tab. I also don't know how to access the documents that were in there.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMacBook Pro started giving me terrible glitches, Where 1) Applications will quit unexpectedly and 2) I will get the gray cover over the screen with text saying I need to restart my computer.
This is happening quite often and I would really like it to stop..
I noticed it all started happening after I installed ProTools LE.
I've already erased my internal hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard, then put my necessary files back.
I have also upgraded my RAM and HDD, about 3 months ago and it's been working flawless until I installed ProTools LE.
