I started up my computer and don't see any of the icons or HD icon on my desktop, but can see the image and the toolbar pops up on the bottom. I can run safari, itunes, iphoto, etc. but when I click on MS word or PP I get this message: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "D<Microsoft Word><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_DVComponentGlue><>" I can upload docs as attachments, but can't open any microsoft stuff. What should I do? My roommate has a new version of MS office I could install, should I do this?

I have a G4, dual 450, 1G Ram running 10.4.11. Recently after downloading and opening an .rar file, a file named .DS_Store appeared on the desktop. I have since deleted the .rar file, but cannot delete the .DS file. It is appearing now in all of my programs, including my camera when I plug it in. I've tried ClamXav, MacScan, and DnsChangerRemovaltool, also What'sKeepingMe, but nothing can remove it. Info says it's a document, 16 KB, and it reads as date created the last time I turned the machine on. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis started happening out of the blue a couple of months ago – Everytime I download something, usually word documents from email or an update (basically anything that makes the file whizz into the top right hand corner and start its downloading), about 30 seconds later the spinning ball comes up and the computer grinds to a halt and the only option is to hold down the on button to restart.
When it loads up the thing hasn’t downloaded. So at the moment there is no way to open email attachments which is essential in my job.
P.S: It’s an old company laptop so don’t have the original disks for any software such as word so deleting and re-installing is not an option. I also have no recollection of downloading anything that could’ve affected this.
