View 2 RepliesI just have started playing on a Mac, and I'm being presented with a few keyboard challenges. I figured out a couple already, but still can't figure out how to minimize the WoW screen without logging out. On my Dell, I'd just hit the "windows" key. Also, I can't move skills manually from say the 1 key to the 4 key. Click and drag doesn't seem to work for this action.

So I followed the guide here on how to permently get your widgets off your dashboard onto your desktop.

Problem is, there widgets are always on top of everything. I included a screen shot. How do I get them behind the active window or how do I put them back onto the dashboard completely?
I've been running across a bit of a problem with Mavericks of late. Just re-installed it on my MBP too!
If I choose Login Window or let the screen turn off/lock, the wifi disconnects while on AC power.
I really don't want that to happen as I sometimes need to connect to it remotely to check on the status of a photoshop process, data transfer, etc.
I have a 20 gig folder that I access quite often. I want the folder visually on my desktop, but I want the files themselves on my external drive nis there a way to do this, similar to shortcuts with window?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to a Mac and have a question regarding minimizing/restoring application Windows in Snow Leopard.
In Windows you can minimize an application using the icon on the taskbar, and you can restore it the same way. In OSX you can restore an application window using the icon, but you can not minimize it that way.
I noticed that iPhoto and iMovie are setup so when I click on the red button to close the app it actually exits the entire program. Is there a global setting that I can turn on so I can do this in any app? I actually like this a lot more than keeping the programs running.

My parents just got a new Gateway desktop PC, and they want some music/movies. I have a ton on my MBP hard drive, so I just figured I could move the files over thru some way like firewire or something (both computers have firewire ports).
what would be the easiest? And would the fact that the harddrives are configured differently effect this? HFS to NTFS?
so I know it is possible to move a users home folder which includes the dekstop. But would it be possible to only move the desktop to another drive? If so, how would you do that?

Recently have not been able to drag widows, folders, or files on my desktop. Nor have I been able to draw boxes (text or picture) in PhotoShop or InDesign. If, for instance, you want to move a window in FireFox to accomodate another window, when you go to grab the bar at the top of the page to drag it it won't move; sometimes the result will pop the window to the Dock. Also trying to select text is very erratic; you can't always select the text you need. You can pretty well set the cursor anywhere, but that's about it. The scroll arrows work, but not the scroll bar if you grab it. At first I thought it was the Apple optical mouse, but I moved it to my laptop and it functions fine. I've tried trashing the Finder and Desktop Pref files, but that didn't work. I ran the Hardware Diagnostics off of the installer disk, but that didn't find anything wrong. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running the most up-to-date OS that I can on this machine; 10.4.11. Asside from this quirky thing, it's always run fine.

I should be able to find this.... but I just can't lay my fingers on the info. I would like to change the speed that the pages flow into the dock when I minimize them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a macbook pro. I installed some apps. I opened the applications folder from the dock and I attempted to drag the icon to the dock to create a shortcut there. My finger came off the track pad and the icon snapped over to the far upper left corner of the desktop. It's in the corner under the apple symbol on the menu bar. It's a transparent white square with a question mark in it. If I clicked on it it would open the app it's linked to. But I can't move it or delete it. If I right click a small window comes up showing the path to the app momentarily. I tried uninstalling the app and rebooting no luck. Looking in the desktop folder shows nothing. It looks stupid and it blocks the x-out of any app that is open full size.

I just bought a Macbook Pro a couple of days ago and this is my first Mac. This may be a dumb question, but remember I'm new to Mac.I just installed a printer and it placed a folder on my desktop. It seems logical to me that this folder should be on Launchpad. Can/should I move this folder to Launchpad and if so, how?

View 12 Replies View Relatedthere are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.
