I want to reset my screen password
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

how would one go about this? is it possible?
Is the password for the computer itself (the one required when you want to, for example, install software updates) different from your Apple I.D. password? What happens if you've forgotten the computer-specific password - can it be re-set?

I know a lot of people think that the MBA is intended to function as a secondary computer. However, in some light users like me, I don't see why it can't be your primary computer. So out of curiosity I want to ask the question:
Besides me, who else in this forum uses MBA as their primary computer and how is computing experience with setup so far?

Working on a friends computer he bought his wife for christmas. He has nothing on it, but the original OS. I don't have my disk with me and need to reset his password. I have watched several videos, but the part that gets me caught up is the
1. mount -uw/ (this part works)
2. rm/var/db.AppleSetupDone (this does not work) message says No such file or directory found.
He is running 10.6.
Whenever I open a pdf, adobe starts to open every pdf file on my computer. Does anyone know of any way to stop this? I couldn't really find anything on search. I am running OSX 10.6.3

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just set up the Mail app but dislike that even after I quit the app if I click it again to reopen it it doesn't require me to re-enter my password. This means even if I close/quit it and walk away from my laptop anyone who uses it can just click Mail and they have complete access to my Gmail account.
I went into preferences but could not find where or how to require it to ask for my password after it's been closed. If there isn't an option then I will go back to copying an address when on a website then opening gmail and pasting it and emailing. Obviously using the Mail app would be more convenient for those types of emails but if it means my account is always open and available for anyone to read then I will go back to the longer method.

Recently I purchased a Canon PIXMA MG5220 wireless printer. I have installed numerous printers, software, hardware etc on other comps as well as this one and have never had a problem... until now. I connected my printer to the internet access port (my home network) and everything went fine. But when I put in the canon disk to load the software and add the printer to my comp, I click on setup, it prompts me for my user pw to allow install. I do that and when I hit ok, nothing happens...
No other window loads or anything. It's like there is nothing on it after the pw prompt. I tried it on a diff comp (windows based PC) and it worked fine... why wont it load on my iMac? Very confused. Also, I turned off my firewall thinking that would help, but it did not... any help is appreciated.

I am unable to use any of my midi controllers with my new Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.3. Checked on M-Audio's website to see if I needed any drivers for the controllers and it says that all are class compliant.
I tried to open Audio-MIDI Setup I got this message. "Audio MIDI Setup couldn't open the MIDI Server so you can't view or edit your MIDI configurations. If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then open Audio MIDI Setup again. If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, contact the driver's manufacturer for further support." I never downloaded any MIDI drivers FYI. I will also attached a screen shot of the window that popped up that reads the above statement. What should I do next? How can I get my MIDI Setup? Â

I'm going to be selling my air and I want to do a fresh reinstall of the os . How do I do that so the new user can just turn it on and have the welcome screen with music? In the past when I tried the computer just automatically reboot and started the setup process.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on this for about 8 hours and I'm going nuts. I am using an Imac OS X version 10.5.8.I purchased a Canon MP560 today and can't figure out the problem. I don't even know where to start. I'm trying to connect the wireless printer using Airport. There is nothing listed when I click on 'Preferences- Print and Fax'.
I read the instructions that came with the printer several times, up to a point. I clicked 'wireless lan setup' on the printer. It's asking me for a lan access point and a wep key. I've used Google until I can't even think anymore. I read Airport is like a router, or can be used as a router. The blue light is on on the printer, and it says it's searching for a connection but can find one.
