This is my first post as the soon to be proud owner of a 2010 13" MBP. I'm looking to copy all tunes/photos/settings from my 2006 mini and of course I've got questions:
1- Anyone do a new setup via wireless? I'm going to use a Linksys wireless N and was curious on a time estimate (I know its gonna be slow...).
2- The mini has all settings under my wife's user account...if I just transfer everything as is then I'll end up with my new MBP info being under her name as well. How can I get the files and settings that are under her name to show up under mine on the new MBP?
How do I setup 2 itunes accounts on Macpro under different users?

Does anyone know how to set-up Pro Tools for 2 different user accounts? Works fine on mine (Admin), set-up another for my wife (also admin) but problems loading and using. Is this something to do with sharing application settings?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I have separate user accounts on the same MacBook Pro so that we can both sync our phones to this computer. My account is the primary user account, and my iTunes library is stored in this account. My wife would like to put music on her iPhone so she can run, but I can't seem to access the music library thru her account. I know the files are all on the hard drive regardless, so I just need to know how I can make iTunes on my wife's account access the library that's there. I've tried the steps I could find on Apple's website, but I can't seem to make it work. I'm running the latest versions of everything - even tho the post says I'm running 10.9.1, I'm actually running 10.9.4

I am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.

I just got a new OSX 10.7 Lion iMac Intel Desktop. Initially I created a user account for myself with admin rights. Now after some weeks, I am going back to System Preferences >> Users & Groups and trying to add an addtional user. However, the lock icon at the bottom of the window does not open when I click on it, and I cannot add, delete, or otherwise manage users. What do I need to get the lock to open so I can make changes and add an additional user?

I have a MacBook that has my niece's and cousin's user accounts and I am trying to delete it. I am the Admin on the laptop and I know how to delete a user account, but when I go to System Preferences > (There is no "Account" icon to click on)...does anyone know another way to access the Account window so I can delete their accounts?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIve a weird problem with the trackpad of my brand new 13" MacBook:
there are three user accounts on it, lets say "Admin", "User-1" and "User-2". While the multitouch option is working fine for the "Admin" and "User-1" accounts, it does not work in the "User-2" account, no matter which settings I try in the trackpad system preferences panel.
Im pretty sure that this has something to do with the fact that the "User-2" account is the only one that was migrated (using the migration assistant) from my old G4 iBook. I reckon that this caused some incompatible system preferences to be installed somewhere in the depths of the "system" or "user/library" folders.
I just got the new MBA, and I already set up an account and then went home and used the Migration Assistant. When doing so, it created a second user account, so all the information I created on the first one over the past few days, it separate from the information I needed transferred over from my time machine? How do I go about merging these two accounts, so I have all my files on one?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

I was just doing a superduper backup which failed halfway through because i didnt realise my wd passport drive that was plugged in was auto backing stuff up and there must have been a conflict. Now, I dont know what to do. Email accounts.gone. Any registered apps, still there but reg details gone, any and all system preferences (like trackpad setup just came to mind) gone. Dock and all the items in it and crap I made to ,make it look fancy. gone. Stuff that loads at the stuff...gone.
I know this must have to do with my user directory but wtf? I know my timemachine backup is fine as i did one before all the problems, but is my superduperbackup screwed? I cant stress how screwed I am, I got reports due right before xmas and im like at square 1 now.
I am getting my first mac for christmas (a 24" imac) and am planning to setup 3 accounts:
1 for me (admin)
Another one for me (standard)
1 for my brother (standard)
I plan to use the standard one for me as my main account but when installing apps and the like plan to switch to the admin one. What I was wondering is, as far as a I can tell from apple is that if I put music on my standard account my brother would not be able to see the music files, the same for pictures and movies. I would like to be able to share the music files and some pictures across both of our accounts. Would putting the music in itunes from the admin account make this possible and what about pictures? I would also like to keep some pictures private, as would he.
I set up iCloud email with 2 alias accounts and want one of my alias accounts to be my iCloud email and my iCloud email to be one of the alias accounts. Can I rearrange them?

I have 4 accounts set up in Mail.app... Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail and iCloud. I want to enable push on them just like I did on my iPhone 4. I did gmail push on iPhone using the gmail exchange server. But its not known to work on the mac. So I tried instructions here and that magically worked for gmail but icloud and yahoo failed to get the email pushed.

I'm the only person who uses my Mac, and wanted to know if I could completely get rid of user accounts. I have no password set, so it's really just a waste of time to have to press "OK" everytime I need to authorize anything.
Is there anyway I could eliminate ever having to authorize anything on Leopard or remove the need for a user account?
Is it possible to create a set of users accounts on one Mac and 'copy' them to another without having to do a full migration? I don't mean copying and pasting but using an application to clone them and place them on a target machine, if you know what I mean?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI have 2 personal user accounts on my Mac Leopard 10.5.6, and would like to gain full access to all files within the 2 User Accounts.
How do i set this up ?
Right now, it is not letting me access files from 1 user account to the other ??
i added a bunch of fonts and brushes to photoshop on a second account, not the admin account, and i figured id be able to use them on the admin account too, but they are not there. is there a way to somehow transfer the brushes and fonts over to the admin account? i dont have all the files for the brushes and fonts no more, and dont feel like trying to find them all again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had a MB for about 1 year now, and got a new 27inch IMac a few weeks back to go with it. When setting it up, it asked if I wanted to migrate my stuff to the new computer, and like a fool, I didn't. Then laster, I used the migration wizard thing, and it said to pick a different name for my new user, since then we was already taken (brian Folkers). So now I have a Brianfolkers and a Brianfolkers2, with no way to make the one with all my applications from my mac (brianfolkers2) the admin, so I can get rid of the extra.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have several user accounts setup on our family imac. Is it possible to have two or even three user accounts running at the same time where I can just quickly switch between the accoints without having to log in and out? A second and seperate question: Is there any SW that can monitor my childs account activity that runs in the background and just sends me a report on what has been done on the computer?

As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on Snow Leopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrator I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this? If not, as an administrator, why can't I see what's on other user is doing? Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?
My wife and I just got a new Mac and are looking to each have their own login for mail, web/bookmarks, etc. but we want to have our media shared so that both users can login and see the same iTunes Library.
Additionally I want to make sure if say one person buys something from iTunes that the other would automatically be able to see it in their library (and wouldn't have to manually add the files/folders).
Lastly, we both use Lightroom and Photoshop and I need to make sure that we can access each other's files in a single location and that we won't get locked out.
what is the best/easiest way to have the itunes music accessible from another use account on one laptop?
