Intel Mac :: Lost Password That Was Used In Original Setup Of It
Jul 2, 2012
I have lost the password that was used in the original setup of my MAC. I am using the latest version of the OS: 10.7.3. I am trying to install new software and some updates. I must state that I am pretty much a computer illiterate.
After connecting my two iMacs for migration . I was not able to log into my new mac . The password is not correct although , when using the same password on the older iMAC it works fine.
I have a 2008 iMac running Lion 10.7.2. I am trying to reset my Admin P/W,( I do not remember setting one up in the first place, but trying to use Terminal recently to do Maintenance scripts, it asked for one, which I cannot oblige it with). (I only put in a Master P/W). Â
The method I have been reading requires using the original software disk supplied with the Mac. My iMac came with Leopard, whch I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now to Lion.Â
Will the original Leopard disk be suitable for the above? or do I require the Lion recovery or whatever to do this task.Â
My mother recently passed away and I've inherited her Mac Pro. She was the official "administrator" and no one knows her password. Is there any way to reset the password without knowing the original password? Or, is there a way to reset the whole laptop to factory settings? I'm not concerned about losing content from the laptop.
This is what I've done so far: I set a Stripped Raid Set with two drives: a Seagate 500GB @7200 and the original WD 640GB @7200. Before setting the Raid, I partitioned the latter in two: a 500GB and a 160GB, so the extra space is not lost. The Raid was created successfully (using the disk utility Raid - no special hardware). So far, is this OK (specially the partition part)? Now, my question is, what's the best way to migrate all my apps and data, from the original single boot drive I've been using until now, to the Raid - so the benefits of the raid are most apparent?
a) As soon as the raid was set, still inside Disk Utility, I used the Restore function, using the original boot volume as source, and the raid volume as target. This is in progress, with an eta of 4 hours, but I can stop it at any time... is this the best way? b) Another way that occurs to me, is to clone the boot volume to the Raid using Superduper or CCC....? c) Or perhaps I should make a clean OS install in the Raid volume, and then use migration assistant or other method to bring the apps and data to the raid?Or, something else I haven't thought of...?
i friend of mine give me your white 13" mid 2007 macbook. The unit power up, the battery is ok but i ask about the operating system software and the response was tha he lost the DVD.I come from win system and i know not so well the Mac world. So is possible to buy this O.S? I was cleaning up my desktop, and I created a new folder and was going to just drag everything into it. I selected everything, dragged and WHOA! All of my original files were GONE and only alias's were left. I search and the originals aren't found, I open the alias's and they want me to find the originals. The originals are just GONE. And I still don't know what I did!!
I recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.
I need to create a new admin account for problems with Microsoft Office 2008 and try if solved. If I create a new one and want to delete the old one, will I lose all my data, emails etc.
i dont have the hardware test anymore. I've upgraded to Lion. I have read that you can reinstall it from the original install disc that came with the mac but i lost mine. is there any other way i can gat it? On on a macbook pro 17 inch mid 2010?
I have a MacBook with MacOS 10.5.5. I purchased Snow Leopard and want to install it, but I forgot my master password. I know what the password is supposed to be, but it doesn't work when I type it in.
I cannot find my original MacOS 10.5 disk to re-do the password.
Lost track of what I did yesterday when I was mucking about in Accounts but now when I start up or even log out and login I have to provide my password. How do I get rid of that login step ?
I put my mac mini away a couple years ago, and i decided to bring it back out to use and i can't remember the password on it. any idea how to reset it? or any way to format without the password?
I am traveling in southern Chile with my MacBook air. It has OS X operating system Leopard but not sur eof exact version. I had a problem and rebooted machine. It came up in SAFE MODE and asked for a password. I have no idea what my password is. I went on line using another computer and saw that if I have original DVD installation disks I can reboot with them and change password. Two problems with that.
1. I do not have disks 2. Even if I did the MACbook air does not have built in CD ROM port and not sure if my externally plugged in unit would even work if I did have the disks.
I have access to second computer with access to internet that I am using and did some searches. I found a proposed solution at [URL] Their suggested route is posted below: To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
1. Reboot 2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime. 3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):.....
I just set up the Mail app but dislike that even after I quit the app if I click it again to reopen it it doesn't require me to re-enter my password. This means even if I close/quit it and walk away from my laptop anyone who uses it can just click Mail and they have complete access to my Gmail account.
I went into preferences but could not find where or how to require it to ask for my password after it's been closed. If there isn't an option then I will go back to copying an address when on a website then opening gmail and pasting it and emailing. Obviously using the Mail app would be more convenient for those types of emails but if it means my account is always open and available for anyone to read then I will go back to the longer method.
Ive had my macbook for ages now, updated to snowleopard a little while ago and now ive decided i want a password to enter to enter the comp. when its turned on.
I'm running a bootcamped Windows Vista and I forgot the password to the only admin account. Anyway to fix this without reinstalling the entire system? I don't have access to an installation dvd now either, so anything using that is not possible.
I have Macbook Pro running MAC OS X. I can boot the computer and use it but every time I try to download a new program or add a user or anything it asks me for the password, I don't have this password. Is there any way to by pass this without losing all my programs and information? I am desperate!
I have brought Macbook A1181 from ebay it works fine but there were two accounts but I don't know the password and when I try to get back to the ebay seller he is closed he is account. Also I have read the Mac website that I need to use the Code: If you don't remember the password and automatic login is turned off, you can reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X User Install disc. Because a user with the Mac OS X install disc can gain unrestricted access to your computer, you should keep the disc in a safe place. To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer. 2. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the spinning gear. 3. When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password. 5. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc. But didn't received any CDs from him so I don't know what version of CD I need it also I am new to macbook so its fully confusing please somebody help me how to reset my password.
