Apr 13, 2010I'd like to switch from a hp dv6570el SantaRosa late 2007 (8400M with 128MB Ram). What I basically do with my laptop is:- emailing / surfing / etc- some development with Eclipse / start developing something for iPhone- basic audio recording- playing games (not at maximum rate.. I'm stuck with World of Warcraft.I don't think that the 15" MBP worths its price.Do you think that the 13" will be able to do this? I'm in doubt of the gaming, I don't want extreme performances, just something playable, and of course it will be better of what I'm using now.

Sep 2, 2014So I have 2 USB Ports on my Mac. I use both of them and I am looking to get a Mic for recording youtube stuff. I use one for my wireless mouse, and I use the other for an external hard drive because the amout of space on my Mac is no-where near enough for what I am going to use up.Â
I am just wondering if there is a way I can either:
1. Get more USB ports (if its possible)
2. Hook up my mouse to a Thunderbolt port (again if that is possible)
or 3. Hook up my External Hard-Drive to the thunderbolt port.Â

Final Cut Pro X :: Sees Thunderbolt External Hard Drive As A Camera
Jun 27, 2014FCPX (latest version) recognizes my external hard drive (my book 4TB) as a camera. Didn't dave this problem before, so when I'm importing to my project the the hard drive is listed as a camera and the program starts to scan through all files! this means that the ram memory is filled i no time! Is it something in my settings or is it the new version of fcpx that is playing tricks on me (not supported had drive?)

Do people feel comfortable returning a drive after doing that erase? Or should I just forget about it and destroy the drive and chalk it up to a loss?

Jun 24, 2014I have the latest MacBook Pro Retina 15 with 16gb of RAM but am having problems with one of my external HDDs (1TB LaCie Rugged USB 3.0/2.0). I was using 500GB for Time Machine and that seemed to be working well but when trying to write to the other 500GB I have been getting write errors with some files of late.Â
I have now bought another LaCieRugged Thunderbolt 1TB HDD and want to copy files from the 500GB partition (non-TM) to that before doing a complete reformat of the now 2 partition drive(1TB LaCie Rugged USB 3.0/2.0). Then after restoring the files to the reformatted HDD I want to use the new Thunderbolt drive for Time Machine. Any free/non-free 100% reliable backup software.

Sep 1, 2009Got a new MBP last month to replace my white MacBook - loving it as an upgrade but one gripe - if I'm sat using it on my knee I regularly hear the "click" type noise of what I imagine is the protection of the hard drive because it thinks it is being dropped.
I never heard this on my old Mac and while it's not a huge issue it is a bit disconcerting, as though I'm being told off for moving it in a fairly responsible way.

Jul 27, 2009I have an aluminum unibody macbook from October 2008. I'm looking to upgrade the 160 GB hard drive inside to a 500 GB one I'm considering from Newegg. Would it be possible to migrate/copy/clone the entire contents of my current hard drive to the 500 GB one? I also have a section of my current hard drive partitioned for Bootcamp. Would this affect my ability to transfer everything over?
If this is possible at all, how can I go about doing so? If there are steps laid out somewhere, I'd appreciate a referral. Sorry if my question is a little elementary, but I did a search on these forums and also google and nothing really came up

Apr 30, 2012Just bought the new Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt Adapter and the Apple Thunderbolt cable. Upon connecting I get this console log:Â

But the drive isn't showing up in finder AND disc utility. If I unplug the SATA connection between drive and adpter and plug it back in, the drive shows up.Â
Problem is: This way i cant't use it as startup volume, as the drive isn't mounted during startup.Â
Problem 2: Booting with the cable connected (internal startup volume this time) isn't possible either, as the wireless keyboard and trackpad aren't working after startup. I can see my desktop but mouse pointer and keyboard aren't working. After power off and unplugging everything boots up normally.Â

Dec 7, 2014I have a new Mac Pro and a new LaCie thunderbolt 2 drive. At irregular and unexpected moments the message appears 'drive not properly ejected'. Sometimes the icon is still on the desktop, sometimes it disappears. Nothing works, unchecking sleep boxes,using other thunderbolt port. Is it a Mac Pro issue or a LaCie thunderbolt issue? It is a huge problem of course.
I bought the LaCie drive from Apple. Which one should I return if necessary, the Mac Pro or the LaCie drive?

MacBook Pro :: Cloning Entire Hard Drive To An External Hard Drive
Mar 31, 2012Recently I bought 2 identical WD Scorpio Blue 1TB hard drives for my macbook pro 13 inch 2010. My aim is to replace the internal hard drive with one of the two I just purchased and use it as my system drive with Lion, Windows and Data partitions. And for the other hard drive I want to use it as a full disk back up for the internal drive (now 1TB hard drive). After I was done with setting up both windows and mac and data transfer, when I booedt into the recovery partition from the internal drive to clone the drive to the external drive, the disk utility gave me this error (Could not validate source - error 254). I also tried using Carbon Copy Cloner but it only could clone partitions, not the entire drive. Yesterday I downloaded a copy of Clonezilla. It worked fine until it had to clone an exFAT partition (my data partition). The exFAT partition appeared as 'RAW' partition in clonezilla. As a result, the whole partition appeared to be full and clonezilla had to copy every single blocks of data in that partition and the estimated time remaining was about 30 hours. So clonezilla is out too. Just want to ask if there is any program/application (bootable or not) which allows can do a full disk clone to an external hard drive.

Notes. Failed HDD ASD Test.  A new hard drive was installed in September of 2011 after the previous hard drive failed. Having worked well until now the system seems to give the same problems as it had previously. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue as others have pointed out. Â
I have been told by the technician my only option is to replace the entire hard drive again for the second time with a new one. However to my understanding a ASD test is very specific and this my not be necessary? Further I am attempting a final backup just in case. I don't have to take it in where I could just back it up myself without the system shutting down.

Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.3 - Backing Up Project To External Thunderbolt Drive
Aug 25, 2014I used SuperDuper to back up a project to an external Thunderbolt drive. The files are all there on the external drive but the references are still directed to the original drive (an external USB 3.0 drive).Â
I tried changing the locations of all files and then consolidating, but it still references the original drive. If I eject that original drive and just start FCPx from the copy on the Thunderbolt drive I just get a lot of "missing file" red flags.Â
How can I fix this? I would like to avoid doing a "duplicate project" every time as the project is over a terrabyte and it takes a long time to copy. SuperDuper only copies the files that have changed.

May 4, 2009I'm looking at getting some good quality speakers for my new iMac. My budget is up to about $250. So far I've auditioned the following speakers;
1. Logitech Z2300. These sounded boomy and mushy to me. They are a good value though at around $150.
2. Bose Companion 3. I like the little hockey puck remote unit. They sounded very weak on mid-range. Surprisingly good low end output though.
3. Audio Engine A2. I really, really, really like these speakers. Until I play something with a lot of low end in them, then they just start farting because they can't handle anything under 100 hertz very well.
What I would really like to do is get the Audio Engine A2 and pair them up with a subwoofer at a later time, but in their short sightedness Audio Engine didn't put line outputs from the A2 so from what I can see there is no way to get them hooked up to a subwoofer.

Right now my NAT is set to moderate and I am trying to open it. I've tried opening ports but there are so many IPs/computers in the network settings I feel like it might be interfering. Another thing is that I manually set my ethernet ip to 10.0.0.1 and my xboxs ip to 10.0.0.2. This is obviously not one of my ISPs IP adresses so should I change it to one that is in the DNS range?
Hardware :: Recover Data From Dead Lacie Hard Drive / Unable To Mount Hard Drive
Sep 6, 2009Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.
Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes...I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before.
Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer.
I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps.I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.
