MacBook Pro :: Is The New 13"MBP Good Enough For Mid Range Gaming
Apr 13, 2010
I'd like to switch from a hp dv6570el SantaRosa late 2007 (8400M with 128MB Ram). What I basically do with my laptop is:- emailing / surfing / etc- some development with Eclipse / start developing something for iPhone- basic audio recording- playing games (not at maximum rate.. I'm stuck with World of Warcraft.I don't think that the 15" MBP worths its price.Do you think that the 13" will be able to do this? I'm in doubt of the gaming, I don't want extreme performances, just something playable, and of course it will be better of what I'm using now.

I'm trying to decide whether to get the Hi-res screen or not.I was wondering if the Hi-res screen is is good if I plan on doing some casual gaming? Will the higher resolustion have any effect on the performance? Will have to turn down the settings, or will the Macbook play games just fine with higher settings and the high resolustion

I'm looking for a good headset that will serve me well for music, gaming, and VoIP, and I'm hoping y'all will have some good advice for me. I've been through two headsets so far without luck and done a fair bit of research already. I've come up with the following requirements. We'll see what you can come up with. Must be USB. I don't want to mess around with adapters and crap.Must have an around-the-ear (circumaural) design. I have a big head, sensitive ears, and I wear glasses. Over the years I've learned to just stay away from any design that touches my ears at all.

I actually have the Apple Mighty Mouse, and while I kinda love it for normal use, the scroll ball is terrible for gaming (way too sensitive and easily stucks when dirty!). I mostly play Blizzard Games (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo), no fps, no sport games. Only bluetooth suggestions please. Bonus: good look and not too small

I am looking for a good headset (USB highly preferred) that will be used primarily for gaming and recording audio for youtube videos. From what research I've done it seems like the Logitech G35 is perfect but it doens't look like it is mac compatible The others on my short list are the Razer Megalodon, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the mic portion of and a persistent "hissing." It seems mac compatible, and I've heard good things about it across the board, but when I checked the driver update on their site it seemed only to be for windows, so that had me confused / apprehensive about buying it.

I have a Retina MBP on the way and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer data to it from my Mid 2010 13" MBP (Firewire but no Thunderbolt).
Would the new Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor allow me to enable Target Disk Mode and transfer? As this adaptor doesn't appear to be available yet, in the UK Store at least

I'm in desperate need for a new computer, for Gaming/school work.
I Am very interested in the New 27" Imac quad core-i7...but I'm scared.
I have read threads upon threads about the screen flickering/yellow glow and such and my question to you all is, when to buy my new imac?
I want to buy it without these problems of course.
Does anyone know when Apple will be fixing all these problems? (If they havint already)

when I get my new MBP (when they release them *sigh*), I intend on doing some moderate gaming on it. Things like MW2, Starcraft, Sims 3, Battlefield BC2, and some others I can't think of right now.
My question is, if a game is available for both OSX and Windows, would it be better to get it for OSX, or Windows? I was wondering if I should have like all my games in the windows partition, or have ones that I can get for OSX separate.

Right now to connect to Xbox live like this
~wireless = ethernet
Actiontec router/modem(verizonfios)~~~~~~ macbook=====xbox360
Right now my NAT is set to moderate and I am trying to open it. I've tried opening ports but there are so many IPs/computers in the network settings I feel like it might be interfering. Another thing is that I manually set my ethernet ip to 10.0.0.1 and my xboxs ip to 10.0.0.2. This is obviously not one of my ISPs IP adresses so should I change it to one that is in the DNS range?

My 13 inch Macbook has been getting kind of warm on the right side lately, and with iStat Pro it appears the temperatures of the picture I'm uploading. Are these temperatures normal?? Are the fans okay? I'm not sure, but I think it's been a little slow as well, and I've just bought it 3 months ago...

I'll be getting a MBP (hopefully soon, darn you update cycles!) to run Maya 2009 (also coming soon) and was wondering how it runs on the current mid-range MBPs. Is it 'fast'? Regarding current models, since we know nothing of the specs for the new ones: does the VRAM matter? Since I hear it all the time: am I better off running it under Bootcamp? (Maya 64 is Win-only.)

It's about Snow Leopard, but concerns only MacBook (Pro) 13" apparently. Here is my question: after a clean install of Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13" (9CC2 panel), it seems that Snow Leopard definitely change the brightness range on the MacBook Pro 13" ! The range was much "wider" with Leopard, and allow me to set brightness to a dimmer level. Now, the brightness is on the bright side, and can't be set really dim (not as far as before...). And that's not great for my battery life! Any other experience with MacBook Pro 13" brightness settings?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I would like to know what software is better for gaming on a Mac. I have Parallel Desktop 5 but I noticed while playing the Orangebox I was getting some framerate issues.I heard a lot of good things about Crossover games and I was wondering if that would be better? or would bootcamp be just fine? Also my Macbook pro is the 2010 15'' 2.4ghz.

I use it for my university study and I play games occasionally (usually World of Warcraft). I'am wondering the difference of WoW performance between 15" i5 2.4GHz and i7.
I play WoW via Parallel Desktop on Windows 7. I know there's Mac version WoW, but I just want to know the performance of running WoW via parallels desktop. A big drop of FPS? or 4GB RAM insufficient?

Has anybody compared gaming under Win7 32 vs 64. Im not that thrilled with the performance on Battlefield 2, but am currently running win 32. I wonder if 64 and its ability to use more RAM will help with gaming experience. Also, I've seen many threads on trying to update the Nvidia drivers, but not many responses on whether it helped much, considering what had to be done just to get the drivers updated....is it worth it.
I wish Apple would address the outdated drivers.

I'm thinking of getting a new MBP, but want to be able to play MMORPGs like Warhammer Online or similar games coming out. Can anyone speak to first hand experience with the various 15" MBPs with i5 or i7? With 256MB GT 330M vs 512 MB? I would love to be able to get the 13", but I'm sure that video card won't make it happen.
