MacBook Air :: When Insert USB Drive / It Promptly Shuts Down WiFi
Jun 2, 2014
I just bought a 64 GB Lexar 3.0 USB drive. When I insert the USB drive into my two day old MacBook Air it promptly shuts down my wifi. I have tried another wifi with the identical result.
Info:
MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro that has been shutting down randomly for quite a while now. It seems to happen most when I have more than one application running but sometimes happens with nothing running at all. It seems that the screen goes off and the sound skips but the keyboard light is still on. I thought it was because I had a bad hard drive but I replaced it and it still randomly shuts down. I ran smart utility and it all passed. I just don't understand what can be causing this? I take this computer to school all the time and it's kind of embarrassing having this shut down on me mid-presentation.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I set up a 32g partition for windows xp pro. Loaded the disk and formated the partition to FAT. Hold option at startup and load windows. Upon loading windows i get the following message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." I have tried leaving the xp disk in, I have tried taking it out before loading windows and putting it in afterwords, nothing works. I can not eject disk while in windows.

Well just recently my MacBook (bought 2/17/2007) started shutting down by itself. Seems to happen after long use (3hrs) and when it starts to get hot. Also noticed screen doin a "fizzle" when using a thumb drive. Anyway went to Apple and dropped it off. They said they will run some stress tests on it and get back to me. I know there are a few things out there about this but wondering if any of you have experienced this recently or at all?
No warranty either. So if it is a logic board issue not sure... or if its a heat sink issue? Not sure what that entails to get it repaired. I was not expecting them to take the MacBook right then and there so i was sorta concerned as it has everything but... want to get it figured out.

I have recently bought a Seagate external drive. It works fine for Windows over WIFI. But for the Mac, it only works when directly connected and is not recognised over WIFI - the drive is not listed under devices. It did when I first started the drive yesterday, when I managed to copy all my files onto the external drive via WIFI. But not today. Perhaps related to the software update I ran last night?
Info:
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8), Seagate Expansion external drive

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection- Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.
Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.
So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.
Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

So, I was using my UB MacBook earlier today. I had a CD in the superdrive. I was shutting down the computer, and all of a sudden, as the screen was going black, the disk in my computer came out half way and the superdrive made a noise. I quickly restarted my computer to see what went wrong. I tried putting the CD back in, it didn't work. You all know how the slot loading superdrives suck in CDs. I now slide the CD in, and it won't get sucked in. In fact, the whole CD won't even go in. A little bit of it still sticks out. So now I'm stuck with a dead superdrive wondering what to do to fix it.

My MBP is in the shop. I'd cloned it onto an external drive, which I'd hoped to use as the startup disk for a borrowed, nicer/newer MBP. Both computers run 10.5.8. The borrowed MBP gets onto Internet via my WiFi, no problem, but if I start up from the external drive, it connects to the WiFi but can't seem to actually get on the internet (even from right next to the router). Signal strength looks good. I unplugged the router for a couple mins and then repluggd it. No joy.

Trying to figure out why my new 2010 MBP is getting kernel panics. As a Mac newbie i consulted the manual + internet. Apparently if I hold down the 'D' key whilst booting then the machine should start the AHT, but mine doesn't.I need to insert the Applications DVD in order for the AHT to start. Is there any way I can install the AHT? Was it removed when I reinstalled SL?I also wish that Apple added some more information to the startup screen (like most BIOS based computers) - e.g. press 'C' to boot from CD ROM, press 'D' for AHT etc, because right now there's just no feedback or information for the user :-s
