MacBook :: Won't Work With Wifi Network / Drops Wifi

Jan 10, 2011

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.

Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.

So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.

Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

AIRPORT says the following in System Profiler.

Software Versions:
Menu Extra:6.2.1 (621.1)
configd plug-in:6.2.3 (623.2)
System Profiler:6.0 (600.9)
Network Preference:6.2.1 (621.1)
AirPort Utility:5.5.2 (552.11)

Hardware :: Won't Work With Netgear DGN2000 / Wifi Drops Connection

Jan 16, 2010

I have a one year old Netgear wifi router that I use at home (two MacBooks and two iPhones connect to it).. Since Monday I have been battling with the the router via wifi (it works perfectly if I connect via cable). My macs or iPhones keep getting disconnected from the router, and when I try to reconnect it's a 10 minute hassle as it keeps timing out or stating the password is incorrect, when in fact it's not. When I do eventually reconnect via wifi it lasts only a short while before it disconnects again. And whenever I restart a computer from standby it won't automatically join the network and then I have to go through the whole timeout/incorrect password episode again. Also, before disconnecting it's sometimes incredibly slow. Even to connect to router's setup page takes five minutes load the page.

I've reset the modem, resetup my devices, chnages passwords, and still I get the same problem.

Applications :: Won't Work With WiFi / Constantly Drops On Snow Leopard

Aug 14, 2010

My WiFi on Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro is constantly dropping. I went to the Genius Bar about the problem and was told to reinstall OS X, which I did, and now, it just happens more often! The only way to get it to reconnect is to turn the airport on and off. Or, when I select my network, it asks for the password, which it was told to remember.

MacBook Pro :: WiFi Drops After MacPorts Install

I was just running 'sudo port install git-core +bash_completion' on my new mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15". All dependencies where fetched perfectly until it was about to fetch the distfiles for "curl-ca-bundle". It tried to fetch "curl-7.26.0.tar.bz2" from 10 different locations, but failed on every. From then on, my WiFi dropped and I get connection timeouts for every WiFi I try to access.

MacBook :: Wifi Bounces From Full Bars And Drops

Mar 28, 2009

I have done some searches, but from the nature of my internet I hope you can understand if this question is a repeat, if so please point me in the right direction. I am using a August 2007 black macbook with airport extreme using 10.4.11 I am using a neighbors wireless network that is WPA. I live in Senegal and my computer is American, and I have heard that this might cause problems because of hardware. But the wifi connection works, it just bounces from full bars to no bars, spends a lot of time at 1 bar, and then when the connection drops and I try to rejoin the network, it says that there was an error. Sometimes, the network won't even show up. After long stretches of time trying to rejoin the network only to find an error, it will suddenly work. I have tried using interference robustness and relocating my computer. The router is just one floor above me, and when it was being installed (before they applied the pw) I had full bars. I think this is a mac problem because my host sister's PC does not seem to be experiencing problems. Also, due to the nature of the wifi (it belongs to my moroccan neighbors).

MacBook Pro :: Retina - Wifi Connects And Drops Non Stop?

Jul 4, 2012

New to a Mac and I just received my new MBP Retina two days ago.  I am having a strange issue where right after i turn on the computer it will connect and drop my wifi connection over and over again.  If i turn wifi off and back on again it fixes the issue.

I have the latest updates for the MBP so not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software bug. My router is also brand new from Linksys and is working flawlessly once i do the above steps.

MacBook :: Unable To Use Internet Connection / Unibody Drops WiFi

Apr 26, 2009

So my 6 month old Unibody has had an issue for a while that it drops the internet connection, though keeping the network/WiFi connection. It started out just on campus where there is a campus wide SSID that is unencrypted, though requires a login to start browsing. A restart of the computer fixes this issue, though it always repeats itself (usually after 30-45 minutes of browsing, no downloading). Lately, the issue has been getting worse. It is now dropping the connection on other APs, and even stops the Airport card altogether (KisMac can't even scan). I had a backlight bleeding issue fixed by Apple. Is this connected? I know the airport card is in the screen, so maybe they didn't fix it well.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Updated To 10.7.3. Wifi Drops Constantly?

Feb 2, 2012

Updated this morning. Then it would not hold a wifi connection for more than 5 seconds at a time. Had to use Lion Recovery to install a Time Machine backup to 10.7.2. That took over two hours. After that wifi was semi-ok. Lion has always had a problem with wifi. I am very disappointed with how Apple has handled the Lion rollout. wifi think twice before installing this update.

Intel Mac :: Constantly Drops Wifi Connection?

May 28, 2012

My imac constantly drops my wifi connection. Sometimes it'll last 5 minutes, other times less than a minute. And, yet other times, it'll go on for 30 minutes. I've tried deleting the network and the adding it again, reset router, changed channels on the router and countless other solutions with no success. Sometimes, it does not even find my wireless network! My ipad, my wife's macbook pro and my mac air all seem fine on the network and do not drop the signal. What is going on? Could it be my wireless card? Is there any easy way to check if I have a faulty wireless card?

OS X :: WiFi Drops If Overloaded - Turn Airport Off & On To Restart Connection?

Jul 10, 2010

I used to have a problem with my late-2006 13" white MacBook where, if I opened up a bunch of Safari tabs/windows at a time, or a bunch too quickly, or was downloading podcasts with iTunes and opened up another internet-dependent app?my wireless connection would drop. I would still see the full signal strength in the menu bar (all four "bars" of that rounded signal monitor), but the Up and Down activity would drop to 0.

The only way to re-start the connection was to click on the signal monitor, select Turn Airport Off, and then just select Turn Airport (back) On. Only then, would the connection come back on. This was a pain, especially if I was in the middle of a big download, as I usually had to restart the whole download..................

MacBook Air :: WiFi Is Always Looking For Network To Log Into?

Aug 29, 2014

I have a high speed wi-fi connection in my home.  My MacBookAir looks like its always looking to connect to Network vs. just staying logged into the preferred Network.  I see this is a slow process that affects the speed of my surfing the web.

What I'm I doing wrong in my settings?  is it something to do with Configuration of IPv4 in TCP/IP; my is at "using DHCP".  Should I have something in 802.1X Profile Information?  Proxies; I have my set to "Auto Proxy Discovery"

Why cant I surf seamlessly?  Why dos it look like my Wi-Fi is always trying to connect to my home Network?

MacBook Pro :: Wifi Reception Is Terrible / Constant Wifi Dropouts?

Apr 27, 2010

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.

MacBook :: Will Old Titanium Running 10.3 Be Able To Connect To Wifi With A Usb Wifi Antenna?

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9.  It's a moderately slow machine, but still works-  and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing-  But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-   Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?

MacBook Air :: Why Does Wifi Not Connect To A Network

Mar 25, 2012

Since about 2 days ago, my wifi on my Macbook air running 10.7.3 Lion does not connect to any wireless network, whether it's naked, WEP encrypted, or WP2 encrypted.  It fails on 'Network Settings' Network Status step (Wi-fi and Wi-fi settings are 'green').  In fact, I can use my other Macbook running 10.7.2 Lion as well as my Android phone to connect to the wireless networks my Macbook air cannot connect to.

What I find really weird is I tried re-installing Lion on my Macbook air using the 'command-R' key on bootup.  I was able to successfully connect to my WEP encrypted router during the re-install. But once it was done and re-booted I once again cannot connect to any wifi.

So something really funny is going on while OS-X is fully booted on my Macbook air.

This is pretty crummy situation to be in because the Macbook airs don't have a default ethernet jack built into it, so the computer is somewhat useless.

OS X :: My MacBook Won't Connect To My Home WiFi Network?

Dec 10, 2010

My MacBook, circa 2007, refuses to connect to my home WiFi network, despite having added my MAC address, being WPA encrypted, updated firmware and the like. I haven't had a problem in the last year, until I started taking my laptop to work. It connects to my work wifi network, WPA encryption, and every other network. I have no idea why it wont connect at home. I'm running snow leopard, other macs and PCs at home can connect... It seems I'm missing some odd quirk, I've seen a few threads of similar complaints, but no working resolution. Any ideas? I've wiped out Safari, cleaned all network settings, and it all started once my use shifted predominantly from home to work. Hmpf.
