just the other day I opened my laptop to find a thin green line run from the top of the screen down to the bottom. It's towards the left side. I don't know how it got there, what it is, or anything about it. I've tried restarting my computer, turning it off, etc.

my macbook pro screen has two thin green lines running down the screen from top to bottom. i have run the apple hardware test and it has detected an error. unfortunately i am in a remote village for the next two months and unable to get my macbook to a repair centre. What the thin green lines indicate?, whether the error on the hard drive and the green lines are connected or something different? the lap top seems to be working fine however im concerned that as i cant get to a repair place for the next 2 months whether continued use will damage the computer further?

there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

When I turn my mac on and I get to the user logon screen it only displays the top right quarter of the screen leaving the rest black. This does not happen all of the time but its happens atleast one out of five times I use my Mac. It also happens when I wake my mac up too.

I recently bough a 2nd hand MacBook Pro off eBay & all has been fine until today when I was using it. Suddenly a green line appeared down the right hand side of the screen. I did a bot of research & people say it could be the GPU, but I know that this particular MBP has had the logic board replaced only last year. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but the line has now gone.

I have a macbook pro (late 2007-2.4ghz). Nearly a year ago I had my logic board changed as there were no display on the monitor though my computer was working. They said it is a production mistake and my logic board would be changed even if it was not on warranty. But now when my computer overheats a green vertical line at the left side of my monitor displays. when it cools this line disappears.know 17 inch unibody macbook pros had same issue with 9600 gts graphic cards. My graphic card is 8800m gt. Is there a solution for that or I had to change my logic board again?

I have looked at a couple of screen protectors for the macbook pro, & wondered if the piece of thin foam that comes with a new macbook pro that fits between the keyboard & screen? could this be used as a screen protector? or would a bought screen protector made by another company be better?

Just received the new 13" macbook air yesterday and today have noticed some very thin horizontal banding lines across the bottom portion of the screen.
Has anyone else noticed this, or check to see if your one has this problem.
It is quite subtle but it makes the icons on the dock look as if they have a card like effect through them.
Easiest to check if you make your screen wallpaper the dark grey colour.
On this the top part of the screen seems consistent, but at the bottom part there is very thin white horizontal lines. I tried updating the software, but it seems to be the same - looks like a faulty display may have to send back, wondering if it could be fixed with a software update.
The strange thing is black and dark colours do not produce the effect it only shows up on greys or medium contrast colours like blue.

I have a macbook pro with retina display, and i want to connect a monitor to the mac. When i connected the mac to the screen, the screen is on another desktop (called desktop 2) but in misson control (on the mac) there is no "desktop 2" and when i add a desktop on the mac, the screen becomes desktop 3. How can i control both displays (screen and mac) but with different windows open on different displays on the same misson control?
So basically i want to have a certain window open (eg. preview) on the screen, and at the same time run (eg. google chrome) on my mac without mirroring the 2 displays. Â

One of the relatives were complaining about a fuzzy/colourful line over their iMac screen.. I figured it would be a display/hardware issue.. Until I remote desktop'd into the machine. Somehow, the line is showing through Remote Desktop..
Its' just on the background, and stays over the background picture no matter what (I've tried to change it, etc.) Tried to repair permissions too - nothing.

I installed the FLAC Tools for Mac OSX a while back onto my machine, which added a program to the command line of "Terminal.app", and allowed me to convert media from and to the FLAC format using the command line, by simply running the command:
flac
in the Terminal. However, now I no longer need the ecoder installed on my computer; the question is, if it's a command line based program

My MacBook Pro will begin to boot when the screen suddenly becomes distorted by an alternately patterned gray screen. I have performed 2 safeboots and after them, it seems to work fine for just a few (3,4) boots after that. One time when it booted successfully, the screen's background light began to flash very quickly until the screen was distorted again like in the beginning.
I've tried cleaning the PRAM and the NVRAM also but it did not fix the problem.

I have a 13" Macbook. I had a 250 gb and a 500 gb internal hd's already crashed. I just bought a brand new 250 gb thought that this will work. I was wrong. I inserted this hd and turned on the on-switch. The same screen I saw earlier showed again-a blue screen with a file with a (?) sign on it.

My MacBook Pro3,1 (early 2007) produces a screen of narrow horizontal bands of black and white, with a few scraps of pale blue and a few fragments of letters, but ONLY when booting from the original install DVD. The displayed pattern has a narrow vertical line in mid-screen, with one side of the displayed pattern shifted up (or down) by the width of the horizontal bands. This display is unreadable, and therefore unusable.Â
Apple serviced the MBP's defective NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor in 12/2010. A year earlier they replaced the SuperDrive.
In May 2011 I replaced the Apple Memory with 4 GB of Kingston memory.
The MBP boots off of the hard drive into SL 10.6.8 with no problems.Â
In preparation for an upgrade to Lion, I booted off of the original Install DVD into the Apple Hardware Test, and ran one pass of the extended test. It took about two hours. No problems were found. Next, to use Disk Utility to check/repair the hard drive structure before the upgrade, I restarted while pressing the C key to boot from the Install DVD. The DVD was accessed, the grey Apple screen displayed, but at the end of the boot process the striped display appeared instead of the expected system installer display.Â
This Install DVD boot failure is repeatable.
I have rebooted with no problem from the hard drive.
I have rebooted off of this Install DVD, but into the Apple Hardware Test (D-key pressed), and rerun the short test.
I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem remains.Â
It is possible that the Install DVD was not used since the 12/2010 graphics processor repair, until now. Although I do not intend ever to use the Install DVD to roll back to MacOS 10.4.9, this is the tool I'm supposed to use to repair my system hard drive. Â
I'm baffled because this problem only appears when booting into the installer program. Is it possible that the repair of the graphics processor (or even the SuperDrive replacement) introduced an incompatibility between my MBP's hardware configuration and that expected by the Install DVD
