MacBook Air :: Paul Smith Envelope For New System
Nov 10, 2010
How does it fit? According to the latest review on [URL] it doesn't fit, but I've also seen a youtube video of a guy saying it actually did fit. What are your experience? Should I buy or find another sleeve?

I walked into work the second day I got my Air, back when a pillowcase served as a sleeve, and a friend handed me a standard padded envelope - except that it's rough cardboard paper on the inside as well. Since I'm waiting for my SFBags Suede Sleeve, I'm too cheap/lazy to get a more decent case, but I've found myself really liking this envelope. It's extremely discreet, and since it's so light, you can really hold it any way you'd like, as if all you have is paper inside. And you can pull it out without anyone really noticing where it came from, since no one cares about paper documents. Or, if you want to impress people, you can plop the envelope on your desk, then slowly and deliberately pull out the MacBook Air, and it's like "what up!" in a Phil Dunphy voice. I'm just worried about one thing - will prolonged use of the rough envelope scratch the hell out of my aluminum?

1. I received a message from Smith Micro about their Internet Cleanup. (They also have something that seems to cut down on excess files on computer hard drives.) It claims that there is malware directed at Macs, contrary to what has traditionally been said, and that their software can prevent harm. Is this something I really want to have? Has anyone had any experience with it? Just wondering.
2. And OWC keeps featuring various items from Alsoft (is ProSoft the same company?) for disk maintenance and recovery. I have Disk Warrior, but I'm not sure whether there's any special reason to own the others, or if the functions they perform could be done even better by other software. I searched for all those items in the CNET forums, and it's my impression that they can cause as many headaches as cures.

I was reading a recipe the other night and my Macbook started ticking, the screen went black, then a white screen came up with a blinking envelope with a "?" in it. This happened once before when the computer was about a year old. I took it to the Apple store and they repaired it. The problem is that store is 2 hours from me. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I have hit different keys and nothing takes me out of that screen. My biggest concern is my pictures and music are on it. I plan to buy another computer (anything but Apple) if I can't come up with a fix for this. Is there any way to get my music on my Iphone onto another computer?

When I try to print an envelope, preferably in Filemaker Pro, the return address cannot print the first 4 characters. Microsoft Word has the identical problem.

I just switched over from the PC, where my favorite program was WordPerfect. Well, that's gone! So, I convert a file in AbiWord and open it in iPages. I produce a very nice letter and print it. Then, I want to print an envelope. In WordPerfect, you go to format > envelope > and an envelope with the addresses is formatted. I couldn't find anything like it in iPages. So, how do you format an envelope in iPages?

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.
Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....

could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
What do I need to do to make myself admin again?
Hope this was somewhat a clear question

I have an extensive collection of fonts (60,0000+). Several hundred of them will crash my system when I open one of them in Finder (double-click the suitcase). I picked one at random for some serious examination. I looked at my sample with many font tools. My latest tool was FontDoctor (v5 and v7). FontDoctor reported "no problems found" with my font. Yet the crash persists. Any tool that can do a thorough job of investigating and repairing my corrupt fonts.

I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this!

I have a g5 with sys 10.5.8 , that I just bought and old mac documents from 10 years ago.
For some reason it will not read them. How does one get old documents translated into something usable.
Secondly, the old system software and applications no longer seem to work with the new machine, is there a way to use those. The mac was always great about being able to use several system folders and their applications.

Recently viewed this Apple web page. In Addition to my G5, I have a G3 running 9.2.2. Is there any point in moving later versions of the named files listed in the Apple web page into the System Folder of the G3, or is that just asking for trouble? Improved performance of 9.2.2, or disaster?

I punch my iTunes music through an Airport Express to a remote set of speakers in the kitchen, which works wonderfully, but I'd like to know if there's a way to run the system sounds through the AE as well. In particular, I listen to Pandora (through a browser) on my laptop, but would love to listen in the kitchen. Any way to do this? System 10.4 I believe...

Should I get a SSD or a ATA drive in it? I don't store much on my computer as most of my stuff is online, and I write for Triond a lot as well so all my stuff is on the net. The application I'll be using the most is Safari, and Pages. It would be nice to have the speed of the SSD since I don't need a big HD.

I have been running OSX on both partitions of a dual partitioned drive for some time now. I need to do this because I run both Avid and Final Cut. Avid hates when you update your system and Final Cut hates when you don't update your system. I keep all my media on an external and both partitions use it for storage. The solution I have works great, except I'm running out of storage space on my internal drive.
I'd like to move the Avid partition out to a USB drive and boot from that for the rare times I use Avid. I'd still keep my media on an external and use my internal drive for the primary boot (my final cut system). I hear this would be a horribly slow option though as a flash drive is not quite fast enough for a boot option.
My alternative is install OSX on my external. I hear this is a bad idea too because that is where I keep my media. Apparently you should not cut video with your capture media and your OS on the same drive because they are accessed at different speeds.
Here is my question. Which option is the lesser of two evils? Is it better to boot from a flash drive or boot from the same drive as captured media?

Why do you think Apple did not use the I3 processor in the new Air? Cost? I think it uses less power and is faster the much older Core 2 duo. I have not been able to find any information on it.
