Jul 9, 2009I am set to receive my first MBP tomorrow afternoon! (15" 2.66ghz 4gb ram 320gb hd). I was wondering what everyone recommends to do once I get it. Should I drain the battery right away? What are some necessary widgets/programs? Any products that are a must have? (palm guard?) Basically anything that you think will maximize my experience with my first mac.

Apr 14, 2010Like a lot of you, I've been holding out for the new MacBook Pro's. Today was the day. I almost sprung for the 15" Hi-Res but decided to go all out and buy the 17" with the 1920x1200 screen. I've owned pretty much all of the Mac notebooks since the PowerBook days (12", 13", 15", and 17") and there is something about the 17" that sets it apart from the rest. It is hands down the sexiest 17" notebook on the market today. I just love it.

Also this on the older macbooks. And if I have Apple to change it how much would it cost? And yes I know that they should replace keyboard case area for free because of the defunct cracking issue.

Jun 6, 20101. I received a message from Smith Micro about their Internet Cleanup. (They also have something that seems to cut down on excess files on computer hard drives.) It claims that there is malware directed at Macs, contrary to what has traditionally been said, and that their software can prevent harm. Is this something I really want to have? Has anyone had any experience with it? Just wondering.
2. And OWC keeps featuring various items from Alsoft (is ProSoft the same company?) for disk maintenance and recovery. I have Disk Warrior, but I'm not sure whether there's any special reason to own the others, or if the functions they perform could be done even better by other software. I searched for all those items in the CNET forums, and it's my impression that they can cause as many headaches as cures.

OS X :: Converting Upper Case File Names To Lower Case?
Nov 9, 2009I have about 50 *.mp3's on my hard drive that have the file names in all upper case. When looking at them in itunes it drives me nuts....Is there a way to convert the uppercase file name to lowercase? I have googled but can't find anything. Oct 26, 2010I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

Apr 15, 2010I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

I have a 1.6Ghz Powerbook which has a few dents in the front but I don't see any of these cases for sale on Ebay, but I do see Macbook Pro cases. It's really a nasty cosmetic issue I'd like to resolve and then sell it.

Jun 14, 2010I am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).
I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?
Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.
I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

Jun 25, 2010Soon i will be getting a Mac(i think) and was wondering about a case. Since i want a Macbook Pro with the Unibody Housing i want it to be safe. Now i can't decide if i want a case or a Sleeve. Now the Case might have heat issues even with the vents that are on the case. The sleeve won't have that issue but will it be more prone to scratching the Macbook it self? Or should i go no case and just sorta deal with the scratches. There is a Price difference between the Sleeve and the Case. About $20 Cdn more for the Case.

Currently using a modded leather square CD storage thingie, but it's a bit thick, kind of defeats the purpose. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fixed USB cable which gets snagged.

Jul 3, 2009I recently picked up a MacBook Air for a great price. The only problem is that it was dropped and has significant denting and disfiguring to the aluminum case that is behind the screen with the glowing Apple logo. I got a quote of $650 from the Apple store to send it out for repair. That is way beyond what I am willing to spend for cosmetic damage. I started searching and found the bottom of the case as well as the top of the case and keyboard but have had no luck finding a replacement for the backing of the screen. Dies anyone know where I can pick one up?

We are currently in the design, development and prototyping stages or creating sleeves specifically for the MacBook Pro line and what to know what exactly it is that you guys, as consumers are looking for.
One thing we're looking to do, is NOT utilize a zipper - or metal of any type. As users ourselves, we've experience scratched cases first hand, not traveling that route.
We're looking to launch, using some fantastic full-grain leathers that we've been fortunate enough to source given our vast experience in the footwear & apparel materials industry. I think you'd find the quality to equal that of some "designer" hand bag companies - with the added costs.
