is there a way to keep the menu bar open always, without altering system codes or erasing system folders? when anything is in full screen, it disappears and I want to see the clock.

I shut off my iMac the other day and now when it boots I get a start up bar that looks like on my iPhone when uploading new os. And then it gets half way and starts over. It seems that my hard drive has an issue. Â I tried booting from snow leopard DVD. But I can't remember how to install a new system folder without erasing the drive. I tried making a bootable DVD of tech tool pro on a friends windows machine but it doesn't seem to work. Â

I recently got a 2TB hard drive and I wanted to transfer all that I had on my portable drive onto the 2TB one. So I did, and I guess I didn't transfer the "System Volume Information" folder and now I can't open the folders.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2011 iMac with a primary SSD drive (256GB) and a secondary ATA drive (1TB).I have created several folders and sub folders for photos on the secondary ATA drive for safe keeping before burning to a DVD.However lately when I try to access these folders on the ATA drive the finder window is not showing these sub folders I have created and stored several photos in.And I get the spinning pinwheel of color as the system freezes up.

I turned off and then on the laptop and to my surprise, the Mac partition doesn't show up on bootcamp menu, and I'm taken directly to Windows.I tried booting from the install disk and repairing the disk with Disk Utility, and although all my data seems to be all right (I can see all of it from Windows), and Disk Utility did not find any errors, when I reboot (while holding the option key) only Windows shows up.

In my menu bar, I have my favorites, and some are actually folders. Since switching to lion, those folders are marked by a square. When I click on them, every site within opens up and knocks out whatever site I had up. For example: In YAHOO, I have three bookmarks within (Yahoo, Yahoo Mail, and Yahoo UK) When I used to click on the folder, I was given a sub menu from which to choose. Now all three open up.Â

I'm also aware that people might find it hard to believe that someone who has shelled out for a couple of SSD's might be having problems doing this, please, just need the help, no flaming.
Basically, just acquired 2x new SSD's and im wishing to transfer my OS and Applications over to them, so i can boot from them.
I installed a scanner driver (Musteck A3 600 USb scanner) and found it so dame useless and frustrating that I went out and bought an epson 10000XL scanner (even sharper than my V700). which has a very good driver (I use silverfast for my Epson V700)
but this dam musteck driver still shows up in Photoshops Input list. (there was no uninstaller on the mustek disk. and it is one of the most useless things I have ever bought)
if i take the Twain plug in out of the Photoshop plugin inputs folder, the the Epson Scan is no longer on the input list..
I have tried looking for where this bloody scanner driver is to remove it but cant find it.
is there any search program that will actually look inside the system and library folders to find files.
I'm running 10.5.8 of OSX and have some strange permissions problems. These have been around for a while and whilst they aren't so bad that I can't live with them, they're really annoying and I want to install Snow Leopard but would like to fix this first. When I go to a lot of the folders in the upper hierarchy of the OSX install (the likes of System and Library), I can't modify the contents of any of these folders even as admin.
I have checked the Get Info and seen that it says that "You can only read" under Sharing and Permissions. Surely as admin I should be able to have read and write. I have attached a pic of a screenshot of the Get Info for my System folder. How am I now not a member of the "System" group (I am sure that I haven't had these issues the whole time I have had Leopard...only in the last 6 months) and what is the "Wheel" group?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am near the end of an extensive editing project in FCS 2 and I am having problems with the system hanging up constantly. I have 8gb of ram (the max for my machine) and my main internal drive is a 250 gb HD. I'm wondering if I can backup & delete files from my main drive to free up space and hopefully improve performance, and if it will cause any problems.
I plan to backup the Soundtrack Pro Loops to an external drive, which will free up about 21gb of space. Is there anything else that's safe to do this with (if this process is safe, that is.)? Can I also backup the "Previous systems" folder & delete it from my main drive?
For my back up strategy I use chronosync to backup my movies and music to my time capsule so I can access them from any device. I still use Time Machine, but I then exclude those same folders as I don't need them twice.Â
Will I still be able to restore my system from my TM backup? If I had to restore my system but didn't use the backup ie a clean install, could I access folders within the backup from the new install?Â

I thought I would ask in case this situation arises. I'm not using a Mac keyboard and there is no eject button on my keyboard. It's a G4 with mirrored doors but I don't see any buttons to eject the tray.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything seems to be working fine (and fast ) except for System Preferences. Whenever I double click the icon on my desktop, it says I need to upgrade System Preferences and that I am currently using version 5.2. So how do I upgrade System Preferences? Never mind, I figured it out. The 6.0 version of SP was in the Applications folder, while it kept the 5.2 version on my desktop.

I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 on an iBook and for some reason, when I select Accounts in the System Preferences, I get nothing but a blank screen. I can't manage the accounts since I can't see the accounts to manage or any of the settings. I threw away the cache and restarted System preferences to see if that would help. It says "Loading Accounts..." but it never loads the that system preference. If I click it again, it comes up blank again and the cache is regenerated. This machine was purchased used and I don't have the OS disks to relaod the system.

In addition, whenever I shut down my computer, it resets all of the user preferences I had prior to shutting it down, for instance, wallpaper, dock layout, default browser, etc etc.
