View 4 Replies View RelatedMac OS X offers a method by which you can "join" an Active Directory server by going through System Preferences --> Users and Groups --> Login Options --> Network Account Server. Is this the same as making a windows pc join a microsoft domain?
If so, is this the preferred method of integrating Apple Macs in a pre-dominantly windows environment.

This question will probably make me look like a total noob. But I can't find info on the Apple website. I've purchased Apple Care from a third party seller. Now I got the code emailed, without instructions. How do I activate this protection plan?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I pick it up, or when I move is suddenly (even just slightly), I get a horrible sound from the back right hand side. It sounds like a someone is putting a piece of plastic into a spinning fan. It also kinda sounds like the hard drive head hitting the disk (scratching sound). I know that these things are meant to have a movement sensor which actually takes the head OFF the disk, but this sounds like its doing the opposite (scratching the moving disk). If I do it while watching a movie, the film freezes for a second at the same time the sound can be heard - so it's definately something to do with the hard drive.
I have done some research but everyone talking about the sudden movement sensor has described the sound as a "click", not a scratch. Can someone confirm this is normal, or abnormal? It's happening quite a lot - e.g. if I just pick it up it occurs. I've had loads of laptops and this is the first that seems to make a sound whenever I move it...
A friend just got a MBP 13 a month ago and despite running all the updates his trackpad will move the cursor but tapping(which is selected) and clicking don't register anything. He's using a usb mouse at the moment so the only thing I can think of is that he erased some drivers, should he do a install and recover or just back up files and do a complete re install? I'd imagine that as the trackpad moves the cursor it's not a hardware problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have a macbook pro 2.66 ghz, purchased in august 2009, and recently i have been experiencing the trackpad missing a couple taps when i try to click on something. i sometimes restart it and uncheck and recheck the tap to click in settings, but it eventually does the same thing.
I found this update at apple.com: URL
Which perfectly describes what im experiencing. Unfortunately this install is not for my "computer".
Is there anyway I can override the notice?? and if anyone has experienced the same thing, what did u do to fix it? Since it happens every now and then, i feel like if i were to take it to the genius bar they would just laugh at me...
I bought the Windows 7 upgrade from the Ultimate Steal student discount program. Because I'm on exchange in the UK from a US college, I had to use my US e-mail, credit card, etc. But now, Microsoft says I can't activate Windows 7 because I am in the UK.
They won't even give me a UK product key or anything. Pirated software it is then...

We've got a new macbook air running Lion. There's an icon for remote disk in the Finder window. We have two iMacs and both have CD/DVD sharing turned on. But the Remote Disk on the Air is empty. Do we need to install any software on the iMacs? Do we have to create a new wifi network? or is the Air not working properly?

View 10 Replies View Related-Essentially what im trying to obtain is any and all information that would help me convince a Windows-based IT team that a Mac Server with network home folders is a much better solution for a Mac-based design studio, than trying to create these home folders on a Windows 2003 AD server (which i believe doesn't work).
-I have seen and heard that connecting from a Mac to 2K3 via SMB causes corruption to all sorts of files (not all the time, but some times) -I have read pages and pages of forums listing all sorts of glitches that people using 10.4.X are having with integrating into the AD. -I also believe that "home" folders on the 2K3 box isn't proper Mac "home" folders, but instead is just a sharepoint that isn't capable of taking all the library, prefs folder, etc.
-I need to convince this IT dept that Mac really would be best for the Mac environment, and while i know im right and it would be so much better and work much more reliably, etc, im having trouble digging up really good evidence to hand to them. Anything from Apple's or Microsoft's websites is preferable but at this stage anything will help me out!
Any help is greatly appreciated, my meeting is in about 15 hrs but the info will help me beyond this one particular client.
The computer is an iMac and it has 9.2 on it. It has some programs that are quite old, but that are still used. How do I upgrade it to Tiger so that both OS 9 and OS 10 can be used?
Also, after upgrading, if I install a printer for OS 10, will it also print in the OS 9 environment, or will I have to install the OS 9 drivers for that printer? That's one of the issues that we're having right now, is not being able to print files that in in a very old format.
For example, the Word docs, I tried moving them to a PC to open and print them there, but the files did not even have an extension in the file name. I added ".doc", but it still could not be read by Word 2007. So we need to be able to print the old files, but we're having trouble installing the printer on OS 9.
Is masking possible in a 3D environment? Creating masks in 2D is simple. But, when I switch to 3D, all my masks are disabled.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll time PC user and finally picked up my first Mac, a brand new 2010 2.4 MBP! Just wondering, being used to normal tap to click functions from PC machines im wondering. Do most of you MBP users use tap to click or actually use the click on the trackpad? I've noticed using the click is more accurate as far as responses, but isn't as efficient/fast as using tap to click. Can I get suggestions from you MBP users on what you guys use? I'm far in between the two so I want to know which one I probably should use so I basically "learn" to use it over time. Also, noticed when I activate tap to click and use dragging, when I start to drag a window, and find the place I want to leave it. I'll raise my finger like 1mm in the air and it still registers my finger there and will still move it. It wont unlock my finger from the drag lock unless I lift it more than 3mm off the trackpad.
