this is weird. I just installed a new HDD with SL and now my program(s) don't minimize when I double tap them. what did I miss here? is there a setting I don't know about? I have tap to click enabled in the settings tab. but for some reason, my open programs won't minimize when I double tap them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know on my late-08 macbook pro (10.5.6), i can double click on a browser page to minimize. i was pretty sure i could do this on my late 07 macbook, but now following a hard drive replacement and Snow Leopard install, I can't minimize firefox or safari via double clicking on the top of the browser. like i said i was pretty sure i could do this before.. but the macbook pro has been mine for a while, so i don't know 100% if im dreaming that or not. i checked the preferences for both and i didn't see a setting to be clicked....so either it stopped working with snow leopard, or it never worked on the late-07 models.

In Leopard and older OS X's - you could double click the name of the window and it would minimize. Now with Snow Leopard...it doesn't work. Am I going crazy or is it hidden somewhere?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy imac core i7 arrive (it's great). However, the question I have is that when I double click (left) my my magic mouse (yes I enable the right/left click buttons). So when I double click the mouse on a web browser on the empty space (the space to the right of the red/yellow/green button, nothing happens. I want to send it to the bottom of the dock like in all of my previous mac. The double clicking of the mouse does nothing. Note: please don't confuse my simple question with the System Pref/Doc (minimize windows into application icon) situation. I know how to do that. Instead of the window minimizing and taking up even more room on the dock, it just hides in the already existing icon (in this case the active window hides in the safari icon). When I click minimize on the actual window this happens:
Now Safari is taking up two spaces on my dock. Is there any way to make it so every time, no matter what the window is, if you click minimize or even exit, it hides the window as opposed to minimizing it and wasting a dock space?
Option clicking a dock icon should minimize all windows of the given program. It works with all icons in the dock except Finder - its window(s) won't minimize. Is this behaviour normal? If so, why? Btw, if I right click the Finder icon in the dock, the menu item "Hide" is greyed out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, double clicking the trackpad button or with one finger on the trackpad itself (tap-tap, essentially), does not do what it used to.
For instance, if I go to the URL box/bar on the top of Safari double clicking no longer highlights the entire URL string so I can delete it. I manually have to drag from one side to the other, or click the little website icon in the left of the box.
In every single application, double clicking (or tapping) no longer highlights text. It's a pain to always have to drag all the time.
my mbp i7's double tap doesn't save when i set it to a certain "double-click speed" so when i put my mbp to sleep or restart it, i'm forced to go back to the settings and set my double-click speed again. The point of me doing this is because for some reason, my double-click doesnt register or hi-light the text in the URL or text in essays etc. when its set up to the fourth notch on the slide bar. so i have to put it down to 0 on the bar in order for my double tap to register. Its really annoying to have to redo this every time i come back to my mbp.

I experience this problem for 2 days now. The wi fi says it is connected and all the bars are full but id doesn't load a single page!
The internet i've got is vergin so normally is very fast.Downstairs where we have a desktop computer connected to the D-link is working as normal.
When I open the network diagnostics in mac it shows : wi fi is green , wi-fi settings is green, network settings is failed(red), ISP failed(red), Internet failed (red), server failed red.

Stange one this ( or really obvious and I just can't see the answer ).
I have transfered a CAD program to another computer so I can leave it up and running to do a really long render - several days worth.
So I transfered all relevant files to the new machine ( 17" MBP 2.8 ) - and the programs and files run fine. However the programs control windows were collapsed to a single bar - no problem I thought, I'll just double click them to uncollapse them. But that didn't work, either with the trackpad or the mouse.
I then tried double clicking in windows on other programs, and this didn't work.
So the nub of the problem is that on the new machine the double click feature doesn't work.
How do I turn it on? I've tried looking at System Preferences / Trackpad etc. and can't see the answer.
Was considering getting a 15" MBPro and wanted to know if they got the double click function to work on bootcamp.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I pick it up, or when I move is suddenly (even just slightly), I get a horrible sound from the back right hand side. It sounds like a someone is putting a piece of plastic into a spinning fan. It also kinda sounds like the hard drive head hitting the disk (scratching sound). I know that these things are meant to have a movement sensor which actually takes the head OFF the disk, but this sounds like its doing the opposite (scratching the moving disk). If I do it while watching a movie, the film freezes for a second at the same time the sound can be heard - so it's definately something to do with the hard drive.
I have done some research but everyone talking about the sudden movement sensor has described the sound as a "click", not a scratch. Can someone confirm this is normal, or abnormal? It's happening quite a lot - e.g. if I just pick it up it occurs. I've had loads of laptops and this is the first that seems to make a sound whenever I move it...
I am trying to find a way to activate tapping for the touchpad on mac air in windows environment with no success. Does it work for others? Any advice for a driver?
View 11 Replies View RelatedA friend just got a MBP 13 a month ago and despite running all the updates his trackpad will move the cursor but tapping(which is selected) and clicking don't register anything. He's using a usb mouse at the moment so the only thing I can think of is that he erased some drivers, should he do a install and recover or just back up files and do a complete re install? I'd imagine that as the trackpad moves the cursor it's not a hardware problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI told myself not to do it. Don't update the Safari software to 4.0, you know how they always mess up these things. And yet, per accident I did. Of course Safari 4.0 doesn't work. Every time I open it, it shuts down. iChat also doesn't work anymore, and even the Dashboard shuts down every now and then. In addition, the computer feels incredibly slow. I can't download rapidshare links on iGetter anymore and everything just feels wrong. Countless threads have been opened on this matter with a variety of different problems for different people. Yet I have not read a proper solution. I have seen all kinds of technical solutions being offered but I'm not a computer wiz and I do not know the terms they use. I just want to go back to Safari 3.2 or at least the one before the 4.0 But I read that deleting Safari 4 and reinstalling 3.2 won't work because of a certain webkit that got installed with it, making it impossible to go back.

So I have a macbook pro 2.66 ghz, purchased in august 2009, and recently i have been experiencing the trackpad missing a couple taps when i try to click on something. i sometimes restart it and uncheck and recheck the tap to click in settings, but it eventually does the same thing.

Is there anyway I can override the notice?? and if anyone has experienced the same thing, what did u do to fix it? Since it happens every now and then, i feel like if i were to take it to the genius bar they would just laugh at me...
Mail.app will not download my work emails while I am at work, although it works fine when I am at home. The settings are exactly the same as for Thunderbird on my desktop, which works fine.

So I clicked the volume up button, and it doesn't change the level (there's a small "no" sign, the circle with the line through it, under where the volume level should be). In the menu bar, the volume control is now a light grey and I can't use it. Same with in system preferences. Any ideas on how to get volume to start working again or why it stopped?
