Mac :: Way To Copy Windows XP From A PC

Is there a way to copy the OS or the whole hard drive from a PC and use in a Mac under Bootcamp? I currently need Windows XP in order to work from home, but don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for something that I am only going to use for a few weeks. I noticed that the cheaper version of Acer Revo nettop PC comes loaded with Win XP and can be found for under $200. The downside is that I don't need the Revo for anything else and it may not be powerful enough for my work tasks. If there is a way to make a bootable copy of Win XP (as we do with Carbon Copy Clooner on Mac)

Is it better for me to buy the upgrade for windows 7, from vista to windows 7 or to buy the full copy? If i buy the fully version, should i get rid of my pardon, and re-do it with bootcamp, or should i just do it over my current pardon? (Vista) I just want the best way, less pain, less anger. Im willing to pay more for full IF IT IS THE BEST way to do it.

Anyone have an idea where i can get a copy of windows to put on my mac that doesnt cost out the wazoo? I have a couple of pcs that have the restore windows xp cds but don't have a full copy of windows to put on my mac. I only need it for a couple of programs, one being my sky caddy, and a couple of other things.

We've had several windows computers that all came with XP reinstall discs... Would I be able to use one of those discs to install XP into virtual box, or do I need to buy a copy of Windows?

My Macbook Pro will be arriving tomorrow so I'm preparing everything for the "big move" from Windows to Mac OS X 10.6.
Yesterday someone told me that copying over TTF fonts might pose problems on a mac. Something about it not being 100% compatible. Seeing I'm using Photoshop (and all my downloaded fonts) daily, it is important to know if this as the case or not.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Does or doesn't it work? Can I basically just copy the files over or not?

A friend has asked me to copy their i-photo library from there imac onto cd/dvd prior to giving the mac to their grandad.I am a windows user and not that familiar with mac. Is it possible to copy the whole library keeping the folder structure intact onto a usb hard disk (win ntfs) and then plug this into a win XP pc and copy the library onto a DVD/CD so that they can then copy this to their new macbook?

I have shared me external hard drive in the System Preferences, but when I try to copy something from my windows pc on it I can't copy. I can read all the files but just can't put stuff on it. It says I don't have the rights to that. I have found that when I try to let me external be read & write by everyone in the system preferences on my mac I can not change it.

I have a Bootcamp partition I sometimes access via Parallels, the rest of the time I boot into it normally. I keep getting very annoying messages saying I've got to activate Windows and my copy of Windows is not "Genuine" and it's counterfeit which considering I'm currently running the Win 7 RC is really stupid. How can I have a counterfeit copy of a free RC that I downloaded direct from Microsoft. I want to put the final version of Windows 7 on my Mac, but at this point I'm not going to try putting any of my retail copies of Windows on my Mac for fear my key will be permanently deactivated. How do I access my Boot Camp install from Parallels without Windows thinking it's been counterfeited?

With some minor exceptions, primarily for game playing for a few years in the late 90s, I haven't used Windows, well, basically ever (ok, I used DOS some until the mid-90s), mostly using various forms of Unix/Linux and Mac OS X. I have never purchased a Microsoft product directly (I've obtained licenses indirectly though).

I'm hoping to get this MBP replaced as I'm having problems with the battery life and the glass of the screen is loose. I have a windows 7 partition on the flipside of my HD anyway to get these both backed up? I know Time machine has done my Mac back ups for the past age but I don't know what to do about windows.

I want to have Windows on on a Mac; however, before I purchase software the way I always do, I have a question. Can you bootcamp with a digital copy of Windows (without a disk I mean). I see everywhere that people are using CDs, but If I were to just buy the software online and transfer the information onto another medium, will that give me the same results, or do I need a Windows CD?

I have windows 7 installed via Bootcamp. Then I installed VMware and had it point to my BC partition. I never noticed it doing this before, but now it keeps telling me that "this copy of windows not genuine" when I run in VM (not sure if the Bootcamp partition - version says this; I'll test it now) I was fairly confident that there was no licensing issue since the "point to BootCamp" option even exists.

I just got my first MacBook about a month ago. I love it... though I'm having some difficulty understanding and... accepting iPhoto. I like control of my photos to the file level and I don't like the libarary.Anyway... my old Windows Laptop I backed up to an external HD. Worked fine... I just copied and pasted my photo directories to the HD.I want to do the same with my MacBook... of course. I don't want to have to reformat the external HD to Mac because I have lots of photos and files on there that I want to leave on there and not remove with a format.

I've got Win7 pro and XP Pro as virtual machines. No bootcamp. I'd love to copy certain chunks of large data straight across when both virtual machines are running but don't see a way to do it without using a USB drive, etc.

if y'all are kind enough to respond to this, can you keep it in baby language. I have very, very poor knowledge of the world of technology, and jargon will only confuse me! Step by step would really I have a PC I need to reinstall windows xp on, so i downloaded a torrent copy of xp from the net ( i know it's illegal, but i had a licensed copy, and my horrible ex decided to take it when he left, so i don't feel so bad ) onto my mac. I expanded the .rar file, and was left with three icons. one says image.img and has a little pic of the harddrive on it, and has about 650 MB of info. the other two are small (4kb and 24 MB), and just show a blank page icon, and say image.ccd and image.subNow, I assume I need to get those files onto a c.d, which when inserted intomy P.C will automatically begin the install process on my P.C.

I need to run Windows XP on both VMWare Fusion and Boot Camp - the reason being that Fusion is handy when working normally, but when it comes to gaming with PC only games, I need the full use of my graphics card so I need to use Boot Camp.Will I have any problems using the same partition on both Fusion and Boot Camp? If there is a problem, is there anything I can do to rectify it?

I think I have found a flaw in OSX 10.6.4 file copying..I normall back up my files, by dragging from a folder on my HD to an identical folder on my external HD.The folder I am copying has 86 files in it, but there are only about two dozen new files added since my last back up.I have been telling it by the dialogue box, not to replace identical files in the back up folder, and clicking the check box to apply to all."but when I press the dont copy button, in the copy progress box it says it is copying 86 files. WTF is going on...!@#$%^&*().

A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time. Understand I am a novice user compaired to most so, here is what I've done so far. Deleted FF in Apps. (trashed)Deleted FF profile (trashed)Attempted stoping any process in the activity monitor(nothing there)Force quit FF (nothing there) Searched every place I can think of for any file named Firefox or Mozilla with no results.cannot find anything in a "profile" that looks FF related Tried re-downloading FF and re-installing(same error prompt) Tried restarting the comp I made the switch to Apple this year because owners and users of Mac seem to very proud of their product, so does Mac according to the price.
