I get this error (-36) whenever I try to copy my documents folder to my memory stick. I know there is plenty of room for my folder, and it copies fine when I format my memory stick to Mac format.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought an 8 gig memory stick - that was advertised as being PC & Mac compatible. I put it in and it loaded fine. But when I tried to copy a file to it - it told me that the file name was too long. The name wasn't that long so I renamed it '1.jpg' - but got the same response. I tried other files and go the same. So I launched 'Disk Utility' and reformatted it using the 'Mac OS Extended (journaled) option. This worked fine. But this time when I tries to copy any files, it told me that the operation could not be completed because I did not have sufficient privileges to do this.

4.Install Vista and insert CD key

I have 4 options, and i should choose the last one which says bootcamp 116gb, but i cant click it since it says the disk need to have NTFS format. How can i set so that i partiton it to NTFS?
On my MacBook i am having a little trouble actually installing windows on a bootcamp partition. When installing XP it just installs and then when i boot into the partition it just says 'disk error press any key to reboot' and when i try to install windows 7 it says i cant because it needs to be NTFS formatted, so how can i format it to NTFS?
How do i format a bootcamp partition to NTFS?
I was using my external hard drive with my mac and its formatted in the MAC HF(something like that) file system. I would like to format that external hard drive such that the file system is either NTFS or FAT32 so that I can use it on my windows partition running on boot camp. I am asking this question since I am planning to get a new HD for my mac and use the old one with windows.

After trying to install Windows 7 on a 32 GB partition using Boot Camp Assistant, I received an error message saying that Windows 7 needs to be installed on a partition formatted as NTFS.
How do I format the Windows 7 partition as NTFS?
The steps outlined by Boot Camp Assistant don't seem to include an option
to format a partition as NTFS.
I've partitioned my 8GB USB memory stick using Disk Utility in Snow Leopard and gave it the format of MS-DOS(FAT). It completes successfully, and works within Snow Leopard however when I plug it into Windows, it says its unformatted and needs formatting. It only gives me the option to format 200MB!!! What is going on? I know formatting more than 2GB in FAT is impossible or something but I did it with my external HDD and it works perfectly in Windows.

The computer currently tells me that the drive is not formatted for installing Win 7 on it. I had used this drive before for Leopard, cloned it to another drive (bay 2), upgraded to Lion, and erased and formatted the drive in bay 1, but not for the NTFS or MS DOS (FAT).

my wife was backing up her photos to our USB stick when suddenly she gets this warning...Just before she had been trying to copy some photos, but the computer didn't allow that, probably some photos were corrupted. I however found those photos on the USB stick, but they are grayed out.I can still open everything else on the stick, and copy from the stick to the desktop, but I can't delete those photos from the stick, trash simply says they can't be deleted. So I decided to simply reformat the stick. However, when I try and erase it, I get this warning
I cannot verify the permissions nor the disk, and I can't repair either, the tabs are simply grayed out. So I decided to check on the permissions on the stick, and suddenly it is in read-only mode, and I can't change it. The lock on the bottom and the droptab won't appear..I tried using google to find a solution and someone pointed out a terminal command, but everything there seemed in order.. I suddenly can only read the Volume, and nothing else, and I can't format nor repair it! I bought this stick very recently, and I want to try everything before I pick up my wallet for a new one! The problem started on my wifes 2012 MacBook Air, and still persists on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. We both have Mavericks.

How to reformat a memory stick in Mac OSX SL? Because I have a 128MB empty memory stick, yet it says there is only 5.2MB free, and when I try to copy a 17MB file to it, it says it won't fit.
How do I reformat it completely so it fixes?
My company started to use encryption software on our computers in work. They use PeeCee, I have an iMac 3.2GHz Intel. I bought a 16GB Tough N Tiny Verbatim Memory Stick. The encryption software used was TrueCrypt as you can use it both on Mac and PeeCee. The problem is I can see my memory stick on a PeeCee but not on my Mac. The IT is indifferent to my issue. He reformatted the stick a number of times. Says it comes up on the Mac in his workshop, however, it doesn't come up on every Mac computer in work. And more importantly it doesn't come up on my Mac.
I have reformatted to FAT32, reformatted to Mac, given it to the IT guyS!!, updated all software on all computers, I've used terminal to locate it, I've used Disk Utility to locate it. is it my Mac's fault (other memory sticks come up), is it my sticks fault (it did work once, and works on all PeeCee and some Macs), should I burn it and buy a new one (theres nothing of any importance on it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchase a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. It came with 1GB (512 x 2 sticks)of memory, I purchase 8GB (4GB x 2 sticks) of ram for it. I checked to make sure I have a total of 9Gb of ram. However, recently I found out sometime my Mac Pro only recognized a total of 5 GB of ram, when this happen, in Hardware Profile it always appear that I have 2 sticks of 512MB ram and 2 sticks of 2GB ram, instead of 4GB. Restarting sometimes solve the problem, but sometime it still won't help.
Did I do anything wrong? (I put a pair on tray A and the other pair on tray B, I also tried to switch them, which seems to reduce the times this happen, but still not completely avoid it). Or is there something wrong with the ram? (But this should not be true because after reboot most of the time it will correctly shows 9GB of ram in total). All the stick is always recognized, just the those 4GB sticks are sometime recognized as 2GB.
I have an iMac G3 500 and I bought a 4GB memory stick for it, but when I plug it in it doesn't appear. Is it an incompatibility with the hardware? Is it usb 1.1 in general? Its running os 10.4 so it could be the os as well, but I don't think so. I know its not the memory stick because I tested it on another computer. And yes I tried the keyboard ports and the ones on the machine itself.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm going to buy my first Macbook this weekend and I'm trying to get myself ready so that I don't have to waste precious playing time on stuff like this I have an external hard drive filled with music, videos and files. I would like to keep using my drive on my mac to access my files and save backups etc. The hard drive is in NTFS format and from what I understand the mac will be able to read but not write to it - which isn't what I want. Ideally I don't want to lose the content on the drive, but if I have to I could slowly copy it all onto dvds. If possible I also want the drive to be compatible with Windows so I can plug it into parents/friends/uni's computers and still be able to view/add content on rare occasions. What format should the drive be and how do I do that? (I think I can manage to do it once someone points me in the right direction)

Can i just reformat that partition without loosing my time machine files? I already copied the Storage files to my internal HDD, also which is the best format? I want to be able to read/write stuff both on PC and Mac
Is there a way to copy my Time Machine files to my computer, reformat that partition too to FAT32 and pass them back?

I've just come across this product at belkin. A 16 GB solid state drive, that flush fits in the express-port of the MBP.
Does this mean, that you can use this as a typical SSD if it is left in the port at all does? Running apps and stuff directly from this? Or is it just a fast type of memory-stick?
I am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.

I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.2. I eject my memory stick by highlighting it in the finder the selecting File - Eject. The memory stick icon then disappears from the Finder but the light on the stick is still on. As I selected eject I remove the stick anyway. The next time I insert the stick I am told that I did not eject it properly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am literally less then a week into being a mac user, so forgive me if I come across as a little ignorant. I'm using Leopard and a 500gb Imac [I don't know if this makes much of a difference? I was using a 4gb Kingston usb stick to move files from my old pc to the new Imac and made the mistake of not ejecting properly since then every time I insert I get "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I've googled and googled trying to find some way to fix it and so far nothing.
It does appear in disk utilities as "generic flash 2.0 media" and i have tried to reformat it, I erased as MS - DOS and then even tried to partition I've tried Master boot record & guid partition table both under MS -DOS [I really need to be able to use on windows as well as mac] underneath it continually says Unformatted beside partition map scheme. I've also tried to reformat using windows in the hope it might bring it back to life, again nothing - so I'm beginning to wonder have I just got a dud memory stick? I have a Kingston 1gb stick and when its inserted it appears as "Kingston" under disk utilities.
