View 3 RepliesI have the early 2006 17" first intel Macbook pro , My DVD drive stopped reading any Drive i put into , I've noticed that a couple of weeks back, but it would read them after a while.
Today I've tried installing SL on it and the drive keeps on spinning and spinning and the it would be ejected out , I've tried several times to no avail , tried switching users and it read the install DVD, pressed on install and it started installing , it required rebooting when the computer rebooted it stopped reading the drive!
Tried remote disk method to no avail, it cannot read other disk drives on the same network while the other computers read its drive, I've made sure that the share DVD option from the sharing pane in system preferences was enabled on both machines...
it shows a disk is inserted but they are ALL empty

I have an older Power Mac G5 that I had problems with, and hoped I could get a little help.I wanted to start fresh, so I booted the Mac OSX software disk that came with the computer, and I was able to get my computer back to factory fresh (software-wise). After I reloaded the OSX (and did all of the software updates from Apple), I tried loading a program from an original installation CD/DVD. It would not load--it tried, but eventually ejected the disk. This happened over and over--I tried different types of discs (music CDs, DVDs, software), and the ONLY CDS/DVDs that work are the MAC OSX installation discs. I have tried using a DVD lense cleaner and compressed air.
View 10 Replies View RelatedPut a CD into my 2007 MacBook Pro today to find it immediatly ejected it without even trying to read it. Happens with all disks. I've had a similar problem where it would fail to read disks & eject them after about 20 seconds, that turned out just to be a dusty laser, this is different, takes about 5 seconds before ejecting.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been clearing out my loft, and found my old Macintosh Plus, keyboad, mouse and software from my student days. If still powers up and works!Anyway, I also found a disk box of some 24 * 3.5" 800k floppies of my old work, dissertation, and things, and would really like to get these onto a current machine as well as Mac Project and MacWrite, MacPaint etc. to read them.I've an old 12" G4 Powerbook which I rebuilt with 10.4.11 so it runs Classic, but I now need someway of getting the files off the 3.5" floppies. The Mac+ has no ethernet only the old Appletalk. I tried my local Mac Store who wanted to sell me a nice new USB floppy drive which was PC compatible. Now I know the old SuperDrives could read these old 800Kb disks but will a modern drive read them as well? The Mac Expert in store didn't have a clue, and to be frank it didn't look like he was even born when these were around.any other suggestions on transferring these files?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just posted this but i don't think in the right place as i have been assigned a ticket number and rec'd an email telling me my ip is logged..i hope they don't charge for advice! I'm a desperate woman with a small wallet at the moment. i have a ibook g3 running osx 10.4.2 toast titanium 6 and suddenly she is indicating there is no disc in the drive when i go to use toast and i realize it is not appearing on the desktop nor elsewhere just in ATA. it is neither reading nor writing from the disk drive. the optical drive isn't seeing it. i have tried rebooting and different disks but it doesn't respond. i am not a seasoned veteran here, I'm a layman. I do know when i look under ABOUT THIS MAC: It lists the following:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI own a Macbook Pro and today I realised that it wasn't reading any DVDs. It has read them before in the past but it won't now.
Whenever I put the DVD in it waits for a while making it's regular sounds and after about a minute it ejects it, doesn't even read the disc or anything.
Since LION's installation and as a consequence the upgrade of QT player to release 10.1 I am not able to read any . MOV from my Canon Camera.I can perfectly watch it in iMovie or Aperture.

I got my Mac Mini from my moms friend (for free) so I don't have the disks that came with the computer, but I do have the Snow Leopard upgrade disk and the disks that came with the new MacBook Pro's if that helps. How would I go about doing a clean install on my Mac Mini?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a software update for Safari to 5.1.5. I rebooted the system as required. Now neither the firewire external drive, nor the USB external drive are mounted.
They both spin and click several times and then stop. The disk utility does not see them. Power cycling the disks does not help.

My 2009 mac-mini started acting up about 2 months ago.The symptoms were:
-- slow response
-- freezing for no apparent reason the going again
-- failure to shutdown forcing use of the power button
-- long boot times
-- finder would freeze and could not be relaunched
-- iTunes would not quit
-- trying to view files on external drives may take an excessive time
I tried "everything" to try to resolve the problem.None of this worked:
-- zapped the parameter ram
-- cleared disk permissions
-- repaired disks
-- booted to safe mode
-- ran fsck
-- reinstalled Snow Leopard
There were several articles that discussed how to "reliably restart the finder". urls....Although none of the suggestions in the article or in the discussion provided any relief, I was finally convinced that I needed to disconnect all of my external drives and reboot. It appears that we have finally discovered the culprit.I have 4 external drives:
-Seagate GoFlex 3TB USB
-Seagate GoFlex 2TB USB
-Seagate 1.5TB Firewire
Toshiba 0.5TB USB (Used for Carbon Copy Clone of the internal drive)Booting from this drive did not change the problem. With all of them removed my computer worked just fine.Adding back the 3TB USB and the 1.5TB Firewire, I still have a working system.Since discovery of this error, I've found several articles complaining that this bug has been around long enough that it should have been fixed by now.Apparently Apple points fingers at the disk drive maker and the drive makers point back at Apple.Refering back to the article above, (the HTTP link), these same symptoms seem to appear because of some rogue applications. It -may- be that because I am using Crashplan 3.2.1 to backup this "broken" disk to another locally attached disk, that Crashplan is the "rogue" application. However, I've been using Crashplan for nearly 3 years and have found it to be a great app -- much more reliable than Time Machine (which proved to be nearly worthless when my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard died and was replaced with a MacBook Pro running Lion.

The disc player in my iMac doesn't seem to be able to read any dvds and then spits them out. What could the problem be?

I'm about to get a Mac Mini Server for audio, video, and graphic production, in addition to everyday productivity use. If in the same situation, which would you prefer?
1) to stripe (Raid 0) the two internal disks, or
2) use one as the install/OS disk and the other as the data/scratch disk?
(...assuming you have a 1TB external backup drive, and find FW800 to be much slower than internal SATA for a data/scratch disk).
Wondering if anyone knows what the security policy and process is that is followed by Apple when a damaged hard disk is replaced by Apple. Is the disk destroyed, or demagnetized. How do we know that the data on the disk is will not be accessed and copied anywhere? Is there a stated policy document available somewhere in the Apple Store that discusses this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to burn a new cd and before I used the application I had inserted a blank disk which my computer didn't recognize. When I tried the application to burn the burn folder, I got a message to insert a blank disk. I tried using the Disk Utility, but when I try to select the volume Superdrive, the option is dimmed. How do I eject the blank disk from my Superdrive? I tried restarting but that did not eject it.

Ive tried over and over to upgrade. I uninstalled the old flashplayer, installed the new version, did a disk repair and nothing. The only way for me to view a flv video is to go to “open with” and use Realplayer. It says it’s successfully installed but when I try to view a video the only thing that happens is that another window pops up that is completely blank but has a title that reads:

I think the mac mini is the perfect machine for home theatre, all it needs is a blu-ray player in it. How long will we have to wait for this?

Yesterday I tried to reinstall Snow Leopard on my Mac mini 2009. When I inserted SL DVD (get one with mini) mini doesn't seemed to recognized it. It just loads and spin it few minutes and eject it after 2-3 min. Also no DVD option in "Startup disk" menu.
I was 99% that my SL DVD was corrupted (too scratched) and buy new Retail version in Apple store. When I came home and try to load Retail DVD I have the same issues.
I tried my friend's SL DVD and his copy loads with no problem at all. I just cannot install SL because DVD wasn't retail.
Here's an interesting problem.
I've got *some* DVD and CD backups that I've made on a PowerBook G4 and an iBook G4. They work fine on the laptops, however when I pop the discs into my intel mac mini the disc comes up as blank and I am prompted to tell the computer what I want to do with it. The discs are not blank.
Other discs (commercial and DVD/CD backup discs) work fine on the mini.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this? (Discs are CD-R and DVD-R, not RWs or +R)
