Mac Pro :: Transferring Applications From Previous Computer?

I have a Mac Pro arriving today and I'm wondering if I can transfer all of the applications, or really just one or two of the applications from the computer it is replacing.
I want to transfer my iWeb site from my desktop mac to my laptop. I backed up everything from my desktop G4 onto an external HD, and from that, copied all the data in my User Folder/Sites into the same folder on my laptop.
Today I bought an iMac to replace my 2009 Mac Mini. Since the iMac had already been set up, I just transferred my data from Time Machine to it through Migration Assistant. A couple hours later I noticed that all my previous Time Machine backups from my Mac Mini didn't transfer over and that Time Machine had reset itself up.
Is there any way I can transfer over those previous backups from my Mac Mini to my new iMac? I know OS X Lion has a feature to do this, but both computers are running Snow Leopard. I am using a WD 2TB My Book for all my TM backups.

How can I do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am in process of setting up a new computer system. I've purchased a Windows 7 PC and am migrating my music from a PowerPC Mac. Both systems are active authorized iTunes computers. I set them up to share and used the share utility to import my entire library into the new system.
Every single non-iTunes songs transferred without issue - 27,000+ of them but every single iTunes purchased songs, only 400 of them, did not.
I recently bought an SSD for my laptop and did a clean install. I downloaded iTunes and imported several CDs into it. I then manually copied over some CDs on the old disk's iTunes folder into the current disk's iTunes folder. However, the new songs don't appear when I bring up iTunes. How do I get this to work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am converting from an older Macbook to a new one. I would like to transfer the emails I have saved in mailboxes "On My Mac" in the left hand column of the old computer. I have created a file on the old computer with File>import mailboxes. I am led to believe that has something to do with opening the file on the new computer, but that doesn't seem to be right. Can you tell me how to get these emails from the old computer to the new?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me if its possible to transfer music from my ipod to new itunes library on new computer. My old laptop died and I hadnt backed up my itunes library. I still have all music I want on my ipod and have recovered my purchased content but cant sync ipod or will lose all the content. A lot of my old library had been transferred from cds and I dont want to go through all that process again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had ITunes on Win XP, desktop. All my selections have been downloaded to my IPOD. Have now purchased new laptop but had problems transferring ITunes library from old computer to new so just recreated Library from scratch on new laptop by copying my CD's but did not have all CD's as some were borrowed. In other words, I now have songs on my IPOD (and on old desktop) that I was not able to reload onto the Laptop.
I want to make sure that when I plug my IPod (which now has all the songs on it from my desktop) into the laptop, I don't lose those that are not in my Laptop library. Do I have to upload into the laptop from the IPOD those which have not been duplicated? Or make CD's of the songs on the desktop that I couldn't load in, and upload them to the laptop?
I have movies (instructional videos) that are on my MBP iTunes library that I would like to transfer to my iMac iTunes library. How do I do this?

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro. My understanding is that you cannot boot from Time Machine. If I were to have a major failure what would be the best way to transfer all my data on Time Machine to the computer? I have a bootable backup on an external HD which presents me with a way to boot up and to actually transfer everything since I last updated. This seems to defeat what Time Machine is for I would think. I know I can drag and drop all the data. What if I did not have a bootable backup what would I do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently had to create a new account (admin) because of problems with the old one. I've now been using the new account with no problems for a few weeks, and am ready to ditch the old one completely. I've got everything organised except my iTunes content. iTunes on the new account behaves as if there's nothing there, so I can see I've got some work left to do.
I authorised iTunes on the new account for both the iTunes store (was told it already was authorised) and for my [URL] account. I changed permissions to read and write for everyone on iTunes in the old account, but that didn't help anything.
Is there a simple way to do this? Once this is transferred I want to delete the old account completely, so setting content up to share isn't the best solution for me.
I recently purchased a Retina iMac running OS 10.10.1.  My previous computer is a Mac Pro (2006) with 10.7.5 (latest OS it will support). The Mac Pro has iTunes 12.0.1 with the database files on the system hard drive and the media files on a secondary internal hard drive. getting my iTunes library on to the new iMac.Â
Migration Assistant doesn't work.
Open Migration Assistant on the iMac and it finds the Mac Pro and offers a code which should be verified on the Mac Pro. Open Migration Assistant on the Mac Pro and tell it to "Transfer to another Mac" and get the spinning gear. Left it on all night, they never connected.Â
Consolidating my iTunes library back to the Mac Pro system hard drive doesn't work.
Following the directions from Apple Support, I pointed my current copy of iTunes (on the Mac Pro) to the default Music folder in order to consolidate the library all in to one folder so that I could transfer it at once to the iMac (iTunes > File > Library > Organize Library). After about 20 minutes I got an error message: "Copying files failed. An unknown error occurred (-22)". I assume there is one or more files screwing this up, but can't figure out which one(s).Â
Simply copying the entire iTunes media folder over my network from the Mac Pro to the iMac doesn't work.
Error (-50) and the copying fails before it gets more than 50 mb. I'm currently attempting to copy one folder at a time. But I don't assume that I'll be able to rebuild my old library on the new machine this way.Â
The current iTunes library is about 250 GB. It is slow, but works on the old machine.Â

I'm trying to copy the contents of my 2nd internal drive to an external drive (Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus), but at some point during the transfer it stops copying and completely locks up my computer. Not sure what the problem is. I don't know if this is related, but when I try and repair the 2nd internal disk while I have any other firewire (or usb) drives connected, I get an error message "unable to unmount disk". When all other drives are disconnected, I do a repair and there is no problem. Is that normal?

both my MacBook and my time machine backups just got destroyed by the water sprinkers coming on. All I have left is the data on my iPhone. I keep all my iPhoto, music, contacts, calandar, and bookmarks on my phone. How will I transfer them to my new computer (even if it is a paid program, I REALLY need to keep this data. Also, how will I keep my new computer from deleting everything on my phone, ESPECIALLY my text messages, when I sync it for the first time? Again, a paid program would be fine because I REALLY need to keep this data

How do I go about deleting applications? I have two versions of Safari on my computer. Version 4.03 or something like that, and the new 5.02. I know I upgraded to the 5 when it came out and I had assumed I was running that since then. Turns out I've still been running 4, and was having an issue with the "New Tab" not working. Thats when I noticed I wasn't running 5. (if you follow me?)... I just redownloaded 5 b/c I thought it would overwrite the 4 version, but it didn't, now I have two Safari's and when I do a spot light search 2 show up as well with no indicator as to which is which. If it matters, I am running Snow Leopard with everything up to date (at least I think? considering I thought this was...)
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically, before I started using AppZapper for complete removal of the programs, I was just doing the drag'n'drop thing to the Trash when uninstalling programs.
Now I do not wish to keep my MBP polluted with unnecessary cache and other "remnants" of the previous programs that might not have been removed completely by the drag & drop method.
I've downloaded CleanApp, but from the looks of things it seems just like another AppZapper type of a program - for deleting current applications. However, I'd need something to look for possible remains of my previously installed programs.
Is there such a program?
My gf connected my external 250GB drive to her computer and somehow managed to choose it as her time machine-drive and backed up to it. Is there any way I can retrieve my lost data? We're talking two complete albums of my own written and produced music, several years of photos and school work plus like 40-50 movies.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt appears that my apps don't reopen to their last state. For example I can close safari with the red x and when I reopen it safari just goes to my home page. Even if I had multiple tabs open it just opens a single tab with the homepage. Other apps seem to start from scratch as well. I have the restore option checked in system preferences. Both my IMac and my MacBook do this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an external that I use with Time Machine, however I don't need incremental backups. Rather, what I would like is only one backup so that I can save space. In this backup, however, I would like specific things to change that change on my computer, as TM already does with its incremental backups. So basically I just want to condense the function of TM into one single backup that will update whenever I back up again. I realize this is not the primary function of TM, but is there any way to make this possible? Or is there any other software that would do this? I've heard of Silverkeeper and Retrospect, but never used them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is my biggest software design pet peeves. I hate when applications make too many choices for the user. Don't get me wrong, I don't like when a program asks the same question over and over again either. So I'm using firefox and I had about four or five windows open. And it froze up for over five minutes so I force killed it. When I opened it again it automatically tried to open all those websites I had open before - all at the same time. This isn't even a bug, it's the designers bad choice. I don't even need them open. I was only still using one. And I don't know which one caused the freeze (probably a flash heavy website like abercrombie) but I certainly don't want to open that one again. I'm trying to get Firefox to not do this anymore.
