Applications :: Transferring ITunes Songs From One Computer To Another?
Jun 13, 2010
I recently bought an SSD for my laptop and did a clean install. I downloaded iTunes and imported several CDs into it. I then manually copied over some CDs on the old disk's iTunes folder into the current disk's iTunes folder. However, the new songs don't appear when I bring up iTunes. How do I get this to work?

I have two macbook pros linked via firewire. I set one as a target by holding "T" at startup. It should be a drag and drop from one iTunes folder to another, right?
The kicker is, I've done this many times before and now it won't work..

I am getting close to filling my HD and would like to transfer some of my music to a HD. What is the easiest way to do this so I can play my music from the HD without transferring it back to the computer? I am not sure if this is even possible or if it is incredibly easy

I've been reading this site for a couple of years, this is my first time typing.
Computer crashed, nothing is accessable, at the advice of my nearest mac dealer, I did an erase and restore with my system disks, but now itunes says "all the music for my account has already been downloaded."
How can I recover this?

I had ITunes on Win XP, desktop. All my selections have been downloaded to my IPOD. Have now purchased new laptop but had problems transferring ITunes library from old computer to new so just recreated Library from scratch on new laptop by copying my CD's but did not have all CD's as some were borrowed. In other words, I now have songs on my IPOD (and on old desktop) that I was not able to reload onto the Laptop.
I want to make sure that when I plug my IPod (which now has all the songs on it from my desktop) into the laptop, I don't lose those that are not in my Laptop library. Do I have to upload into the laptop from the IPOD those which have not been duplicated? Or make CD's of the songs on the desktop that I couldn't load in, and upload them to the laptop?

I recently had to create a new account (admin) because of problems with the old one. I've now been using the new account with no problems for a few weeks, and am ready to ditch the old one completely. I've got everything organised except my iTunes content. iTunes on the new account behaves as if there's nothing there, so I can see I've got some work left to do.
I authorised iTunes on the new account for both the iTunes store (was told it already was authorised) and for my [URL] account. I changed permissions to read and write for everyone on iTunes in the old account, but that didn't help anything.
Is there a simple way to do this? Once this is transferred I want to delete the old account completely, so setting content up to share isn't the best solution for me.

I recently purchased a Retina iMac running OS 10.10.1.  My previous computer is a Mac Pro (2006) with 10.7.5 (latest OS it will support). The Mac Pro has iTunes 12.0.1 with the database files on the system hard drive and the media files on a secondary internal hard drive. getting my iTunes library on to the new iMac.Â
Migration Assistant doesn't work.
Open Migration Assistant on the iMac and it finds the Mac Pro and offers a code which should be verified on the Mac Pro. Open Migration Assistant on the Mac Pro and tell it to "Transfer to another Mac" and get the spinning gear. Left it on all night, they never connected.Â
Consolidating my iTunes library back to the Mac Pro system hard drive doesn't work.
Following the directions from Apple Support, I pointed my current copy of iTunes (on the Mac Pro) to the default Music folder in order to consolidate the library all in to one folder so that I could transfer it at once to the iMac (iTunes > File > Library > Organize Library). After about 20 minutes I got an error message: "Copying files failed. An unknown error occurred (-22)". I assume there is one or more files screwing this up, but can't figure out which one(s).Â
Simply copying the entire iTunes media folder over my network from the Mac Pro to the iMac doesn't work.
Error (-50) and the copying fails before it gets more than 50 mb. I'm currently attempting to copy one folder at a time. But I don't assume that I'll be able to rebuild my old library on the new machine this way.Â
The current iTunes library is about 250 GB. It is slow, but works on the old machine.Â

My computer is authorized for my iTunes account. When I was syncing my iPad recently, iTunes kept saying that certain songs (55 of them, for which I paid iTunes long ago), could not be synced because the computer is not authorized for iTunes. I checked via iTunes Store and, indeed, my computer IS authorized. This keeps happening.

My itunes library is empty on my new computer, but I have a full library on my ipod. How do I "reverse" sync? I don't see an option in itunes to put all the info from my ipod onto my computer. I see it the other way, which would then erase all the data on my ipod.

I am in process of setting up a new computer system. I've purchased a Windows 7 PC and am migrating my music from a PowerPC Mac. Both systems are active authorized iTunes computers. I set them up to share and used the share utility to import my entire library into the new system.
Every single non-iTunes songs transferred without issue - 27,000+ of them but every single iTunes purchased songs, only 400 of them, did not.

I bought a song and was billed for it on iTunes. When I tried to play it, a pop-up said, "This computer is not authorized to play....Would you like to authorize it?" I signed in, clicked the authorize button, and it says, "This computer is already authorized" and the window closed. I still can't play the song. I read online to check with the computer administrator and the file --> song info. It is registered with my email address. All other songs I have bought play with no problems. I heard also I could reinstall iTunes, so I went online and installed iTunes 10.6. It is installed but nothing is changed.

Brand new convert to Mac here: After receiving an iPod Touch from my boss when he upgraded to an iPhone, I have fallen in love with the Mac hardware and OS. I just got a new macbook and would like to transfer my iTunes from my old PC laptop. I am also a neophyte to iTunes so forgive me if there is a very simplistic answer to this issue.
The physical music is located on my external drive connected to the PC with the iTunes original music locations pointed to it . My specific question is, if I backup iTunes, restore to the Mac, plug in the external drive to the Mac, will it work seamlessly? I'm not sure if the existing iTunes music locations will re-synch since the music locations on the laptop iTunes are mapped to the "G:" drive. If it won't work that way, what do you recommend as the best way to go about it? I want to make sure I don't waste as much time as when I initially set up my iTunes/iPod touch (simply stuck in "PC" mindset).

Looks like I'm going to have to use a work supplied PC for my next contract. There's no way around it. How do I go about transferring my iTunes library (40GB music, 100GB movies) onto the new machine?
I don't have a large iPod so ipod.itunes is out.

I'm looking to buy a powerbook, and I'm wondering if there is some easy way to transfer all my existing music files, as well as my playlists, ratings, etc.. from my powermac (MDD) to my new machine. I'm guessing there must be some simple way to do it with an ethernet or firewire cable.

So I recently just got my MacBook Pro in mail yesterday. The first thing I wanted to do was to transfer my itunes music/library from my PC to my new Mac so that I kept all my playlists and count numbers and etc. I watch the video on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyy993m1nPo) of david kadavy showing how to do it but however he does it from one mac to another.
I have a PC and I did everything he did correctly. When I tried to import my library.xml file it said "not all files were able to be transferred because they may not exist". So can anybody help me transfer my library from my PC to my Mac? BTW both of my iTunes on my PC and Mac were up to date.

I just recently got a new iMac and I want to transfer my iTunes library on over. My primary rig used to be a MBP and to conserve HD space, I put my music library on an external HD. The problem is that I can't seem to get it to work. So, rather than me describing my failed attempts, let me show you where I'm at. The first pic is Steve(my user name)>Music>iTunes on my iMac. As you can see, a few of my folders have populated but obviously everything is not there. Also, for instance, the song Twilight of the Thunder Gods by Amon Amarth doesn't play even though the folder is in there. It *will* however play if I have my external HD plugged in because it locates the song on said device. The second picture is that of the same folder on my external HD. As you can see, all of my song folders are there. I currently have my iTunes Media folder location set to Users>Steve?Music/iTunes.

How come this feature has never been released? How many times have you been listening to music with friends through a stereo, or simply enjoying a good shuffle list, and all of a sudden you're struck with an urging to hear a different song. Problem is, you don't want to leave the one you're on, you only want to listen to it next. And even after you finish listening to it, you want to be able to resume your previous shuffle list. Seems common enough right?
Then why has Apple never released this feature? I understand the ability to make customizable playlists, but we're not talking about lots of songs. Just one single song. And it could be designed to only allow one song to be qued. Not too challenging I would think.
And it would be so easy to implement. Add a button next to the genius button on the bottom of iTunes with a big Q on it. Highlight the song you want, press that button, and BAM. Done. On an iPod touch/iPhone, just swipe over the song you want to que up (like in email), and a red button will pop up saying "que" and done. And on an iPod with a click wheel, maybe hold down the center button and the fast-foward button when you're highlighted over the song you want to que and done.
