The volume quit working on my computers speakers. I try to hit the up volume and a greyed out speaker appears showing volume bar all the way up with a circle below it with a line through it?

This happened after I unplugged speakers from outputand plugged in headphones. After done, when I pluggedspeakers back in it stopped working. Headphones no longer
work either. Internal speakers still do, though.I went into preferences and sounds. The external speakers are no longer showing up. Built in output is the only option available. I unplugged everything and turned everything off. Plugged them back in and turned the mac back on. Nothing.
My speakers suddenly stopped working. I've unplugged, rebooted ect & nothing works. I get lots of feedback but no sound & my Imac will not show them as an option in systen preferences.

I have owned my MacBook Pro since June 2010, and have always used a pair of independently powered (via adapter) external Dell speakers for audio output. Since upgrading to Lion about 1 month ago, I was having intermittent audio issues, which were resolved by re-starting my computer (not ideal but it worked). Today, the speakers just stopped working. The internal speakers work, but when I plug the externals into the headphone port, they don't produce sound. Earbuds in the same port also don't work (but the earbuds are good). The external speakers are being recognized by the sound panel in system preferences.

View 1 Replies View RelatediTunes LPs have stopped working for me for some reason. It's been like this for months and I haven't found a solution anywhere. When I click on the LP file, nothing happens. Nothing pops up, nada. It's like as if I hadn't clicked on it at all. This is affecting ALL my iTunes LPs. I checked the files in the iTunes media folder and they all seem to be there iTunes just won't open them. I have the latest version of iTunes and I'm using a 2010 iMac 27" running Mac OS X Lion, the latest version.

I'm on OS X 10.4.11 and speech recognition works wonderfully for about 10 minutes, and then it stops working for no apparent reason. The microphone window shows that it hears me, but doesn't recognize anything.
I go to Preferences, turn off speech recognition and within a few seconds it turns itself on again, but that doesn't solve the problem. Even a restart doesn't help.
What's going on here??
Anyone else notice that their external hard drives spin up for no reason in Leopard?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am running a 2007 Imac. Version 10.5.8. 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM and am using my Macintosh HD as my Startup Disk.
I have been starting to have some issues with my external hard drive (500gb Western Digital, connected via USB and power supply).
I've never had a problem with it before, but now it seems that when it "mounts", it stays connected and workable for about 30 seconds and then it unmounts and dissapears and I get a "bad device removal" message.
I don't want to lose anything on the HD so for now I just turned it off. I am planning on using DiskWarrior to attempt to repair it.
If, for instance, it is "fried" and cannot stay mounted, is there any way I can transfer the info onto another HD?
I have a Mac Mini with two external WD MyBook's attached. The drive in question, is configured for Time Machine backups every four hours. It should sleep the rest of the time. But every once in a while, it wakes. I just revs up for no reason, then after a short while it goes back to sleep. It can happen when I open a folder, open a file, click a link in the browser or some other seemingly unrelated action.
I tried to untick the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" to see if I then at least could get the drive to stay awake instead. This did not change the behavior at all.
Does anybody have a clue what I can do, to get OS X to leave that drive the hell alone, other than Time Machine??
Can't access external headphone or external speakers. Choice disappeared on output, still there for input.

the external speakers (and the earphones) I use for my i-mac suddenly stopped playing sound from my imac. They do work though when I plug them to the i-pod. My imac speakers work perfectly. Any ideas what's happening?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm hoping someone can help me out on this little problemmy usual set up is a pair of speakers connected with jacks via an m-audio usb audio interface, with an external monitor connected via mini-dvi to dvi.now for some reason my audio interface has randomly broken (on a side note, could a power cut have somehow broken a usb peripheral connected to my macbook whilst it was asleep?) so i've hooked up my speakers to the line out to rca. Now for some reason, when i plug the mini dvi connector into my macbook i get an incredible amount of hum. not just a little, alot!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date. Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue: After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.  The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect. If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.Â
When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.
I have just aquired a slot loading iMac g3. It is a blueberry model, with a 350 MHz g3, and 512 megs of ram. Not that that matters. Anyway, it seems to have been dropped and has a crack above the crt. The speakers also do not work. I plugged in a pair of speakers in both of the headphone jacks. Nothing. The audio port. Nothing. I checked the volume, and it was at full blast. Not even a peep from the speakers. The sound area in the system preferences did not have an option for internal speakers, it was just greyed out with headphones as the selection. By the way, it is running Tiger. I opened it up, and everything is connected. I took the logic board off, and everything is fine. I put it back together and booted it up and... NOTHING..... What could be going wrong?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSound isn't coming out of my internal speakers. When I hook up headphones everything is fine, but when I'm on the computer itself, no sound comes out, a red light is coming from my headphone jack, and the volume controls don't do anything (volume stays at max and there's a white circle with diagonal sign thru it, like a no smoking sign) and I don't get sound.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust got my Creative Inspire T12s in. I hooked them up to my MBP and powered them up. The left speaker isn't working. I checked the L/R balance in iTunes and everything looks fine. There is an audio cable that connects to the MBP, and a cable that connects from the left speaker to the right speaker.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi have already tried going to system preferences, and the internal speakers are located, connected, and should work. the display that shows up when the volume switches looks the same as when they DID work, but no tone sounds when i switch the volume.

I have iTunes 10.6.1 on my Macbook Pro and was using the multiple speakers feature with my 2 airport expresses very successfully until recently. Now when I try to use multiple speakers within iTunes it recognizes those speakers but can't connect. I've tried resetting both airport expresses but nothing. I have all the recent upgrades and haven't done anything out of the ordinary to change things up.Â
I also know it isn't the airport expresses because I have another product called Airfoil that streams music wirelessly from any source to those speakers via the airport express and that works fine. So it's definitely something specifically to do with iTunes.Â
One last thing, when I stream iTunes via the Airfoil I have no problems. So again, it's definitely something to do with iTunes.Â

So the sound on my Macbook Pro is NOT working. I went to the sound settings and the internal speakers option under output is gone. I reset the PRAM and when it did its "second boot", the apple sound played just fine. As soon as I logged in again, the option is still gone and I am getting no sound.

My internal speakers in my PowerPC G4 just magically stopped working! It recognizes them in system preferences. And yes, the volume is up. I dont know what happened. The headphones do work. I havent tested external speakers yet, but that's next on the list.
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday my speakers stopped working. It's not software based, the audio drivers are working properly. Whenever a sound that is over a certain volume is played, you can hear a pop come from the speakers. For instance, if I play a song that has fluctuating volume, every time the volume goes up, there's a pop, and every time it goes back down, there's a pop. The volume the computer is set to doesn't effect this. Even if it's muted, there's still a pop that's the same volume as if the volume is turned up all the way. Any ideas what could be causing this?
