Mac Pro :: Best / Cheapest Place To Buy Correct Airport Card To Fit Into 2008?
Nov 7, 2008
best/cheapest place to buy the correct airport card to fit into my 2008 Mac Pro please? Im in the UK but if it works out a lot cheaper ordering elsewhere then I don't mind.
Is Mac Pro 2008 's airport card died? or logic board problem? Mac Pro suddenly show airport card is not installed at menu bar, the system profile also can not find out my airport card?
For some reason, when I was in either my D-Link or now my new Airport Extreme's logs and looking at the current connected wireless clients, my new Macbook Pro's name is always missing. Everyone elses laptops, desktops, and my iPod Touch all have names.
I looked under "System Preferences", then "Sharing", I do have a name there.
I have a late model G5 Quad 2.5 Ghz that I'm trying to sell. The video card is dead and causing all sorts of kernel panics. So, I'm trying to replace the card with the cheapest one I can find, so I can sell the machine.I found this one on ebay:[URL]It says it will work with the G5 Tower 8x AGP, but I don't know if thats mine or not. Do you guys know if that will work in my machine?
I have multiple Podcast Libraries. Which Podcast file is in the correct place? I can combine the other Podcasts after knowing the correct path. "iTunes New" is my external hard drive housing iTunes.
So is it:
iTunes New > Podcasts iTunes New > iTunes > Podcasts iTunes New > iTunes > iTunes Music > Podcasts
My macbook ran out of battery two days ago. When I restarted it had all my data and files, but the settings had been reset (i.e. my screen saver, dock, expose, etc had all been reset to the original settings). A day later, the macbook froze and I tried to restart it. It now goes to the login page with my user ID but does not accept my correct password. Instead, the rainbow pinwheel spins for a few minutes before the login window shakes and then clears my entered password, as if it does not accept the password. After a few repeated tries, it offered me my password hint. I know my password is the same one I've always used.

I have the AirPort Extreme base station 802.11n and was thinking of using it as a way to access a wireless signal since my newly acquired G5 tower doesn't have a wireless card.
Is is possible to use the base station as a wireless access instead of the card?
Caveat: I have a MacBook Pro that I use with a built in wireless card. I get my signal from a wireless signal from my upstairs friend/landlord's network. He uses a Linksys router and modem from the cable company.
Is there a way around buying a wireless card or USB adapter for this G5?
Running 10.5.6 with an SCR331, G4 desktop. I have been using entourage, smart card reader, and CAC successfully for quite some time.
My CAC was recently updated with new certificates to transfer my email to navy.mil. When I insert my card reader with CAC into my machine, the keychain (and Entourage) show the old certificates (with the spawar.navy.mil account) which aren't even on my CAC anymore. Obviously I can't get Entourage (or other websites) to work without being able to access the new certs.
I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.
Are there any options for this? Will this airport extreme card from early model MBPs work?

How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.
I bought my Mac Pro as a refurb from Apple, but it didn't come with the wireless card built in. This didn't bother me because at my old apartment my computer was near the router so I just wired it up by ethernet. I just moved into a new place and my computer isn't within router distance and I don't want to run a bunch of cable. My boss gave me a card to plug into Apple wifi card spot and OSX found the card and showed some airport info, but it didn't find any networks and if I run the Airport Utility it says it can't find an airport card. So I assume it's not compatible. What are my options? Oh yeah, I found this on ebay. Sound reliable? [URL:....]
Im abel to be connected to airport sometimes but then my airport stops working completly. the airport symbol is blank ( white) and when i hover over it it says its not installed.
I'm planning on buying a mac pro. Now the question is which video card should I get.
The choices are:
- ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3
I will not play games on my mac. It's gonna be a machine strictly for work, meaning Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Flash, Email, web, eventually maybe also Cinema 4D.
Well I rushed off and bought the Mac Pro as soon as it was announced at the local Mac store to where I was - and also bought the internal wireless card. They didn't fit it at the store, but as I was shipping it anyhow to the UK, I didn't care much. When home, I installed the card - just two screws, and thought everything was fine - Leopard found it and the function is available - but I'm getting no signal from it. It looks very much like I have no antenna attached, though there was no antenna needed when installing (I assumed the antenna worked through the two screws holding the card in place). Anyone got any ideas what the problem is (apart from dragging it to a Apple store).
I could use some advice on seeking out a good and reliable Raid card for my 2008 Mac Pro. What I want is to make a Raid 0+1 configuration in the Mac Pro using 4 1TB hard drives, which would break down into 2TB of storage that is mirrored on the other 2 internal drives. The Apple store really didn't help and it seems like they make it rather difficult to find items like this. Of course I could do something like a Drobo, but why waste what the Mac Pro was built to take advantage of.
I recently just purchased one of the early 2008 Mac Pro Desktops, model number MA970LL/A and am trying to upgrade the video card in it. It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?
I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI. I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser. The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound.I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
I have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only). I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides. Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card? I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot. Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."

I have recently bought a 2008 Mac Pro (8 Core) and have pimped it up with RAM, Vertex SSD and a few 2TB hard drives, on top of that I have pulled the trigger on a Apple LED display however require a graphics card that is compatible for the Apple LED Displays with Mini DisplayPort.
Can i use My Old iMac as a extra monitor. My Old iMac from early 2008 has a broken graphic card nvidia 8800 gs. When I start it up I hear the bong and see the symbol spinning then the screen goes black from right to left the computer is running but I can't use it. I assume it's the graphic card. Can I use this iMac as an extra monitor to my other iMac.?
AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 [2.2MB] is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS 10.5.5 and resolves some issues with AirPort connections when roaming in large WiFi networks.
My 13-inch Macbook (Late 2008) currently uses the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card, but I want to upgrade it, so that I can play games at a higher quality. Is this possible? If so, what graphics cards are compatible with my Macbook (Late 2008)?

I am trying to make a video wall of 4 - 6 lcd panels, all displaying different lo-fi videos. Ideally I would like to have one computer driving all of the panels. But I don't know what hardware / software i need to connect more than 2 monitors.
