I have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only). I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides. Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card? I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot. Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."

This morning, I had to print off some pictures from my digital camera for my art class, so I stuck my memory card (1 GB) into the slot, and it worked just fine. The other day, I plugged my LG Lotus into my MBP via USB and it also worked normally. Tonight, I tried to connect my phone once again, and it didn't mount. So, I tried the memory card in an adapter and it didn't mount either! My MBP isn't old at all (got it at the end of November '09)!

My 13-inch Macbook (Late 2008) currently uses the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB graphics card, but I want to upgrade it, so that I can play games at a higher quality. Is this possible? If so, what graphics cards are compatible with my Macbook (Late 2008)?

that doesn't cause sleep issues? I just bought a Startech 12-in-1 because it said it was mac compatible and couldn't find any reports of interfering with sleep, and yet on my 2009 MBP it does the apparently usual trick of starting to sleep then blipping the super drive and waking up again asking for a password. Are there cards out there that work flawlessly, or is it just a problem with the expresscard slot as a whole?
View 17 Replies View RelatedFor some reason it seems that my macbook pro isn't reading the SDHC card in my multi (10-in-1) stratitec USB2CR8 reader. I can't seem to find info on whether or not it is the reader and it can't read SDHC or the 4GB card size, or if the issue is with my computer. Anybody got any ideas, and if necessary I'll go and buy a new memory card reader if that is the issue.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got an 8GB PNY Optima SDHC memory card. My computer would read it fine until up to a couple days ago. The camera that I use the card in can still read it, and all my files are (were) still there, so I'm inclined to believe that the problem is with the computer. I'm completely clueless when it comes to using Macs though, just recently made the switch over. Would anybody be so kind as to give me a hand here? I've tried reformatting the card in my camera, but that didn't change anything.

I have a year old MacBook Pro with an Nvidea GeForce 8600M GT card.
I recently bought Unity but it turns out the Nvidea GeForce 8600M GT graphics card isn't fully supported because of a memory leak which is a problem with the drivers.
Unity Support have told me to update my drivers. I understood Mac drivers were always built in to the OS and no drivers were available from Nvidea but I see they now have one Mac driver for another card.
What is the actual state of affairs with this graphics card does anyone know? There have been a lot of reports of faulty ones and now this.
This is a just about year old top of the range MacBook Pro and it doesn't support graphics??
How do I copy images from a photo memory card to my Mac Book Pro (Os x) ? I tried earlier and apparently removed the images from the memory card. I don't want to remove them from the card, only copy to my MacBook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm planning on buying a mac pro. Now the question is which video card should I get.
The choices are:
- ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3
- NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3
I will not play games on my mac. It's gonna be a machine strictly for work, meaning Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Flash, Email, web, eventually maybe also Cinema 4D.
Well I rushed off and bought the Mac Pro as soon as it was announced at the local Mac store to where I was - and also bought the internal wireless card. They didn't fit it at the store, but as I was shipping it anyhow to the UK, I didn't care much. When home, I installed the card - just two screws, and thought everything was fine - Leopard found it and the function is available - but I'm getting no signal from it. It looks very much like I have no antenna attached, though there was no antenna needed when installing (I assumed the antenna worked through the two screws holding the card in place). Anyone got any ideas what the problem is (apart from dragging it to a Apple store).

View 14 Replies View RelatedI could use some advice on seeking out a good and reliable Raid card for my 2008 Mac Pro. What I want is to make a Raid 0+1 configuration in the Mac Pro using 4 1TB hard drives, which would break down into 2TB of storage that is mirrored on the other 2 internal drives. The Apple store really didn't help and it seems like they make it rather difficult to find items like this. Of course I could do something like a Drobo, but why waste what the Mac Pro was built to take advantage of.

View 17 Replies View RelatedI recently just purchased one of the early 2008 Mac Pro Desktops, model number MA970LL/A and am trying to upgrade the video card in it. It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI. I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser. The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound.I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
