Mac Pro :: Replacement Graphics Card For 2008 With HDMI Ports?

Apr 20, 2012

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI. I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser. The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound.I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.

Mac Pro :: Any Graphics Card With 2 Display Ports?

Jan 18, 2010

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro. I wanted to upgrade the video card, but had 2 questions.

1. Is the 4850 the best card to get right now? This card was announced a long time ago and nothing new seems to be coming out anytime soon. I don't want to buy this card and have a new card announced soon after.
2. The ATi has one display port and one DVI. Is there a card with 2 display ports?

Mac :: Early 2008 Mac Pro Graphics Card - ATI Radeon HD 4870

Apr 6, 2009

I recently just purchased one of the early 2008 Mac Pro Desktops, model number MA970LL/A and am trying to upgrade the video card in it. It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?

Mac Pro :: MP 2008 Won't Recognize 2 Extra SATA Ports?

Aug 13, 2009

This is a really weird question, but here'goes: I just got my internal blu-ray burner. I hooked it up, removing the fans and all that jazz to get the SATA cable plugged in. Turned on the computer, and the drive was not recognized.

I know it has power, since I can operate it manually (but no disks inserted are recognized in System Profiler nor Toast). Oh, and in the System Profiler under Serial-ATA it does list 6 ports (though 2 with hard drives, 1 and 4-6 are empty).

I fiddled around, made sure cables were plugged in, still nothing.

Then I tried to just plug in one of my extra internal hard drives through the connectors I was using for the 2nd optical drive (power and SATA cable). It won't recognize the hard drive (doesn't seem to even know it's there).

Mac Pro :: 2008, New 5770, How To Get Audio Over MDP/HDMI

Nov 19, 2010

I was already running 10.6.5, so install went without a hitch. Just had to switch my primary display from the TV back to the monitor, so very smooth.I have a 27" Samsung SyncMaster 275T monitor and also a Samsung 32" LCD TV. I connected the 275T to the DVI port on the video card. I bought a MDP-to-HDMI adapter from my local apple store (Moshi brand, about $35Cdn, box says it supports audio output for mid-2010 MB/MBP and 27" iMac), and used this with an HDMI cable to connect my TV to a MDP port on the video card.Ideally I would like to get audio through MDP/HDMI to the TV, so I can watch video without turning on separate speakers/stereo receiver.

Mac Pro :: Hooking Up Early 2008 To TV With DVI-HDMI?

Dec 15, 2009

I am interested in connecting my early 2008 Mac Pro to my HD TV so that I can easily watch iTunes movies stored on the Mac Pro on the TV.

I know the Mac Pro has DVI video out and the TV has HDMI video in, and that there are adapters between the two. Will this be as easy as connecting my spare DVI port to an open HDMI port?

Mac Pro :: Firewire 800 Card - System Lacks Ports?

Jun 30, 2008

I am not a huge Mac guy, but have to use them at work? Our Mac Pro lacks enough firewire ports for the configuration I need to do. So I guess I need to get a firewire 800 card and it will only be used in conjunction with out AJA unit (HD video production), so if it has one or four ports it doesn't really matter. Anyone have a brand or specific card they prefer?

Mac Pro :: Four Monitors With 2008 - Which Graphics Cards Need?

Jan 26, 2010

I have a 2008 Mac Pro with a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT in it. I'm currently running two Dell 24" monitors (at 1920x1080) and I'm looking to add two Dell 21" Monitors to the setup (at 1600x1050).

Do I need to purchase an identical GeForce 8800 GT or can I run a different card for the second paid of monitors?

I'm also planning on running Windows 7 via BootCamp with the same four monitors - are there any potential problems with this?

I'm also having trouble locating Mac specific graphics cards, are there any recommended retailers? Or will I be OK with a 'normal' PCIE graphics card? I'm in the UK btw.

Mac Pro :: Graphics Card ?

May 1, 2009

I replaced my macbook pro last week with a MacPro 8 core.

For the last few days the GT120 graphics card was connected to two 24" dell monitors (2407 and 2408).

The 2407 is my main display and was connected via the display port to a display port to DVI-D adaptor and then to the DVI-D port on the screen. The 2408 was connected using the DVI-D on the graphics card straight to the monitor. This setup was great as I couldn't even tell if my mac was on or off because I couldn't hear any off the fans.

The only problem was that when running full screen video (EyeTV/Quicktime), the picture would sometimes stutter. After looking at the apple store website, a new GT120 was 99 for students so I picked one up yesterday.

The original GT120 is in slot 1 and is connected to my 2407 (main display) via DVI-D, the second GT120 is in slot 2 and connect to my 2408 via DVI -D. Now the problem is noise! I can now hear my mac whirring away all night (MacPro in my bedroom).

Any idea what the problem could be? When i run iTunes visualizer, both displays average at about 63fps and there is no stuttering of the picture. One thing I have noticed (using hardware monitor) is that when play itunes visualizer on full screen the GT120 in slot one uses 22% and the GT120 in slot two uses 99%.

Mac Pro :: Which Graphics Card For 1,1 Is Best

Jun 17, 2009

I have two issues with my present X1900: it's not going to be OpenGL compliant come September, and more pressingly on a day to day basis, for some reason Eve Online, the game I'm rather addicted to, doesn't like me using two video cards - a stock GeForce 7300 and the Radeon.

I haven't been able to troubleshoot my way to confirming why I have the issue (and I've posted on Eve online forums - no one else seems to have the issue) but I get really odd graphics glitches when I have more than 2 screens 'detected'. Rather, when I have screens on more than 1 video card. I think it has to do with an ATI/nVidia conflict while running a Mac port of the Linux Port of Eve.

So I was hoping to get the 8800 perhaps, but they're getting pretty hard to find. Any other suggestions? Performance-wise I've been happy with the X1900, don't really *need* to upgrade, but I'd like to maximize OpenGL and solve this confilct issue so I'm not constantly climbing in behind my desk to unplug and replug DVI cables - I now run 3x monitors and a projector.

Price counts for me, I'd like to keep this upgrade as cheap as possible - don't use 'Pro' apps. I'm not afraid to flash a PC card if there's decent instructions around somewhere. This is actually a PC X1900 with a custom fan/heatsink fitted (Xcellero X2 or something? It's been a while).

PowerPC :: No Airport Card Installed After Power Supply Replacement

Nov 11, 2008

I just picked up my iMac g5 20" (2.0 GHz PPC) from the Apple Store for having the power supply replaced. Now I've lost all traces of the built-in Airport Extreme Card: When I click on the now hollow diamond-shaped Airport icon, I get a grayed-out prompt stating "No Airport card installed". Any record of an Airport Card under System Profile comes up with "No information found". My Airport Express does not show up in Network settings either.

Airport Express works fine in my Macbook Pro, so I know it's not something wrong with my Airport Express. I tried installing the "Login & Keychain Update", but can't: "You cannot install Login & Keychain Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update". Ran Disk Utility and came up with errors and unable to repair disk. The iMac was fine going in - except, of course, for the random shut-downs from a failing power supply.

MacBook Pro :: HDMI Input Via Express Card?

Jul 30, 2010

Recently I've been looking for a way to capture uncompressed HDMI output from a PS3 via my 15" MBP. There are many solutions available, including the Dazzle, the HD PVR and other similar capturing devices, but most of these are limited to standard definition or a high price tag. In doing some research today, I came across a possible solution that I remain skeptical of. It's incredibly cheap and seems to only be missing a software solution.

A company called MOTU develops professional-grade video capturing solutions that are in that special category of price range that require special inquiries. Needless to say, far out of range of a practical solution for a hobbyist. They also sell a product called "HD Express", which is advertised as an HDMI input for an ExpressCard slot that only works with their breakout boxes. That last part doesn't really seem logical if it truly is an HDMI input.

So with a cheap HDMI splitter and an ExpressCard adapter for those of us who opted for the SD card slot on our MBPs, $75 could get you an HDMI input. I guess my question is whether or not this MOTU product is really limited to use with their products or if it would function as a standalone input solution. I know very little of electronics in general, which is why I bought a Mac in the first place.

Mac Pro :: New/Upgrade Graphics Card For Mac Pro?

Dec 10, 2010

So basically, I bought a Mac Pro in mid 2007 with the following specs:

Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
1GB (2 x 512MB)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB SDRAM

Anyways, I have just started using it again and would like to use it to play WoW (probably via BootCamp) but the current graphics card is really insufficient.

So what I'm basically looking for is a graphics card that would run in a mid-07 Mac Pro with the 2x2.66GHZ Dual-Core Intel Xeon's (ram is not an issue, I can upgrade this as well) - that will allow me to play WoW on even good settings.

PowerPC :: New Graphics Card For G5?

Nov 30, 2007

I posted this on the buyers guide forum but got no response. Maybe you guys can help.

I have a G5 dual 2.0 with 5.5 GB ram and an ATI Radeon 9600 pro graphics card.

I have been running Final Cut Studio with no problems. Once I upgraded to FCS 2, it seems to drag with some of the new fetures. Motion 3 seems really slow! So I added 2 more gigs of ram to bring it up to the 5.5.

I am waiting for the new MP like so many of you, but I will keep this computer for off line editing and compressor and for a part time assistant editor to use.

Would it be worth it for me to upgrade the graphics card?

If so what would be a good choice of card for this type of work.

FYI the last computer game I played was Zork, so I don't care about gaming.
