I have a late model G5 Quad 2.5 Ghz that I'm trying to sell.The video card is dead and causing all sorts of kernel panics.So, I'm trying to replace the card with the cheapest one I can find, so I can sell the machine.I found this one on ebay:[URL]It says it will work with the G5 Tower 8x AGP, but I don't know if thats mine or not.
Do you guys know if that will work in my machine?
First off, is this even possible? I can't figure out if my internal wireless "card" is a removable piece like it was on the iBooks of the same generation. I know that wireless G was standard on the Alum Powerbooks, but does that mean it was soldered in somehow? When I replaced my HD last year I don't recall seeing one...
If it wasn't soldered, and it's a replaceable card, does anyone make a compatible N card that I can drop in it's place? Times are changing and both my house and my work will have N routers, and I would like to take advantage.

I recently bought a used Emac G4 and I have a router downstairs but now I need to know how to get a wireless signal in my room. Here are the specs:
700mhz G4 processor, 40gb harddrive, DVD ReaderCombo drive, 17 inch screen, internal 56k modem, ethernet port, built-in speakers, 2 Firewire ports, 3 USB ports, external speaker & mic connections, and video output for an external monitor. fresh installation of OS X 10.1. Also I plan to update to tiger (get an update off ebay). Will the computer handle it well? I'm eventually going to upgrade to 1gb of RAM.
I have found disks that say "media only" for really cheap and I realize those aren't licenses but since the eMac has Tiger wouldn't it already have an OSX license? Links to products would be nice if possible.

I bought the airport card (product number 630-2883/C) recommended for my model number. i was able to take apart the machine to find the slot I was supposed to insert the card into, but the width of the empty slot is just a tad to narrow; and I don't know why I can't insert the airport card when I bought the recommended version.

Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am having some trouble with my Powerbook G4. I am pretty sure my hard drive is failing but want to get some other opinions before I start replacing stuff. Over the last couple days the HDD starting make strange noises (clicking a lot, along with other undescribale noises). I am wanting to hold off buying a MBP until after Leopard is out.
I am wondering a few things:
1. Is my diagnosis of bad HDD right?
2. How easy is it to replace the HDD with a new one (seems pretty easy reading instructions from ifixit.com)
3. Will any 2.5" ATA drive work?
4. I installed OS X on a firewire drive before the internal drive died but now it will not boot. Am I right in assuming once the new drive is in I can pop the Install disk in and install OS X?
5. Am I forgetting anything? Any tips?

I still have my old school PowerMac G4. But now I am running out of options and think about to buy a new Mac Mini. However I have heard that the mini doesn't really work for new games. How about "older" ones?
I have Windows games such as the Tiberium Wars and the Add on. I also would love to play Fallout3 on boot camp. Would that be too much for it, considering a maximum configuration of the mini.
Regarding a faster HD, I personally wouldn't like to open the mini. However I have seen the mini stack V3 on OWC. Going for a large 1 gig drive for booting, would that speed up things a little bit, or would I need a WD Raptor in it to make those games possible ?
I just recently switched to Mac and was given a Power Mac G4 (CPU type PowerPC G4 - 2.9). I would like to upgrade and replace the processor. Is this a possibility or would it make more sense to buy a new computer?

They are the only two keys that do not work. Would buying a new keyboard fix this problem? If not, what do I need to do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a first gen imac g5 (bought it in dec. 2004). So far I've had three major problems with it:
1. After 6 months of use, the power supply burned out and had to be replaced.
2. 3 months later the well known video problems due to faulty capacitors appeared. The midplane board was replaced.
3. I was out of the country for 6 months; after the midplane board was replaced in August my imac was sitting unused. Booted it up yesterday and the computer would just hang. Took it to the genius bar at the apple store today and was told the logic board has to be replaced. Luckily, though the computer is out of warranty, Apple has extended the warranty for this specific problem.
At this point, I am very frustrated. I am going to call Apple and request that they replace my imac with a new one. It is obvious reading the posts here and Apple's boards (btw, before Apple's board monitors started censoring and delting posts that address these problems - my post on the Apple board yesterday was deleted by the monitors) that many users have had lemons with the first gen imac g5. I consider three major problems in less than a year to be symptomatic of a "lemon". If Apple doesn't replace lemon imac g5's what are the alternatives...I wonder if they would buckle if enough people threaten a class action lawsuit. Something must be done to alert the general public about this problem.
After reading about Psystar and all that crap I have become inspired. I want to build my own hackintosh . I have an old G4 Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac that I aquired a few weeks back. I was wondering if it would be possible to gut it and use the case for my new hackintosh. Will a standard mobo fit in it? Can I easily replace the powersupply?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm have an old iBook Clamshell 320mb of RAM with OS X 10.2.8 installed, and today I tried to replace the Extras.rsrc with the "Liger" theme (you know the one that makes it look like leopard?) but I didn't know it wouldn't work with 10.2 so I took the original put it in a folder on the desktop called 'System Files Needed Don't Delete' and then I restarted the computer, and it won't boot to the login screen and just stays blue with the cursor. Is there some way I can fix this without installing 10.1.4 again, and not sending it to a friend who can install 10.2.8? I only have the 10.1.4 install disk.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI came across a powerbook g4 (dvi, 15 inches, 800mhz, 512mbs, airport card, dvd-rom + cd-rw, after market battery never used and after market ac adapter)) sold "as is" on craig's list. I picked it up for $50. It had everything but the hdd. The first time i plugged it (without hdd) I got the flashing ?. I swapped in another hdd and all I would would get the apple chime followed three soft beeps (nothing on the screen). And then eventually, I would power it on and the only sign of life I would get is the caps lock light on, and the num lock light only if I hit F5 (again nothing on the screen). If i let the powerbook sit without the battery for a while, then I would get the apple chime again but then the power cut out right away. This happens with the adaptor or the battery only which leads me to believe it's not the dc-in board. I have tried different ram, disconnected the airport card, disconnected the cd player. I have tried resetting the PMU and every key combination to reset the PRAM (it never seemed to make a difference).

View 2 Replies View RelatedSomeone I know wants to buy a used Mac pro G5. It has a speed of 1,8 Ghz. I think he's going to use it for music. (logic pro, adium). But he said he was going to use FCS as well. His question was if he could replace the G5 singlecore chip, with a G5 dualcore chip. And if that's possible, could somebody give me extra info about compatibility and such. For example, will it just boot without problems when you replaced it, or do you need to do extra things (drivers, reinstalling the os and such).
