OS X :: Snow Leopard Installation - Can't Choose Drive After Reboot

Aug 28, 2009

Macbook 2.4Ghz with Leopard 10.5.8, 320Gb drive (2 partitions)

Doing the standard upgrade install so I shove the SL disc in and run the installer, after an age it eventually reboots.

Then after another long wait the installer finally appears but when it asks to choose the drive to install to, my drive doesn't appear.

From the utilities menu, I can access disk utility and it only shows the DVD drive.

If I access system profiler my hard disk is still there in the SATA section.

Seems like I'm going to have format and do a clean install unless anyone has any ideas?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Menu Bar Missing On Reboot?

Feb 19, 2012

I rebooted my Macbook Air (Mac OS X Lion) and the menubar doesn't show up.  The top of the desktop is blank.  No date/time.  No wifi icon. Nothing.  When I launch an application then the menubar shows up.  When I close the application no menubar.  Also, when I option+right-click on the Finder icon in the Dock there is no option to relaunch Finder. When I open a folder the menubar for Finder doesn't show up.  What should I do?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Reboot MBP To Factory Settings

Jun 5, 2012

I just bought a MBP 13" from my friend. It has OSX Lion pre-installed on it so theirs no boot disc. I read the instructions online about rebooting but I didn't do it correctly. What I wanna do it get it back to as if the computer was being turned on for the 1st time. I changed the user name to my name, but when I go to the Air Drop section in Finder, his name still pops in that area. I wanna make it so that everything is under my name. Basically, the login user has my name on it. Air Drop has his name and when you go to USER folder, his name is there too. Want to get it so all of it is under my name.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Internet Sharing Keeps Starting Upon Reboot?

Jun 21, 2012

I have lion installed on a mac mini with 2 usb ethernet adapters.  Everytime I reboot the mac mini, it enables Internet Sharing and changes the IP on the 2 USB ethernet interfaces to 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1.  How do I stop this from happening.  Disabling it in the preferences panel and resetting the IP addresses on each interface get wiped out once the server is rebooted.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Unable To Perform A Reboot / Shutdown From The OS.

Jul 2, 2012

I've had my original MBP since 2007, which was originally on 10.4 I believe. I've done upgrades up to the current 10.7.4. My original MBP was encountering end-of-life hardware issues, so earlier this year ago I purchased a new MBP. I used the Migration Assistant utility to move my files and user settings. My older MBP toward the end of its life was having OS shutdown / reboot problems. The OS would never completely shut down. It would go to a light gray screen, and the twirling icon in the middle never went away. A manual shut down from the power button was the only recourse. It seems that the problem is tied to issue(s) with my user account settings, since the problem is still present, despite newer hardware.

After I do a manual shutdown/restart, I can immediately perform an OS reboot just fine. But after the OS has been running for hours/days, I can't run a clean shutdown/restart.I'm 100% confident that this is not a hardware issue. I'm comfortable with reviewing my system.log in Console and issuing Terminal commands, if that will help with any troubleshooting.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Service Data Volume Is Not Ready On Reboot?

Jun 14, 2012

I'm running Mac OS X Lion Server 10.7.4 on a Mac Mini Server with a Promise Pegasus disk array attached. I'm using one of the logical drive of disk array to store the service data of Mac OS X. I had a power failure last night, and I had a problem with the automatic reboot after a power loss. It takes about a minute for the pegasus to start so the mac can't see the service data volume at boot time. Most services weren't able to start or lost their data. Is there a way to make the system/mac waits until the disk array is ready before booting?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Backup The Os X Installation?

Jun 22, 2012

i'm getting rid of my cable internet ISP. they place i have moved in, in India, is not a metropolitan region and there is just a terribly bad internet serivce here via cable. Disconnections to slow speed to high cost. so now i'm planning to move to 3G internet and use it all the time via my iphone 4.

the obvious problem is that that while 3g in this area isn't slow or intermittent, its still very costly. so i cannot afford to make a 4.5 gb download of os x lion  (and mountain lion in future) everytime i have to clan install the OS. and unfortunately, this year i had to do it nearly thrice. back in the days of leopard and snow leopard this was like NEVER! anyway, So now i want to download LION while i'm still on cable internet and back it up on a usb stick or a dvd.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Installation Error At Very End Of Process

Feb 9, 2012

I wanted to do a clean install of Lion and change the name of my disc so I booted in Recovery Mode and erased my disc. When I install lion, it goes through everything and I wait the full 2 hours or so for it to download and install but right at the very end it says an error occurred while installing the mac os x and then I get the rainbow pinwheel and am required to shut down my mac by holding the power button. I am currently booted from an external hard drive as this is my only connection to the internet. I really want to get Lion to work on my internal drive. I just partitioned out my internal into 2 partitions (I read something about that?) and I'm going to give the install another go.

MacBook Pro :: Clean Installation Of Lion On It

Mar 21, 2012

I have my 15" MacBook Pro, Mid-2010 model, which had Snow Leapord and then from the AppStore I had upgraded the OS to Lion. Now I'd like to have a clean installation of Lion. I have few constraints and have already tried few options but without luck. From the AppStore I downloaded the OS Lion (from Purchases) and I saw a note about create a bootable DVD and have created one. I tried the following...

Problem #1 : My MBP wouldn't boot off the DVD. It just keeps spinning.

Problem #2 : I then tried restarting and then choosing "Options" while coming up to choose the Disk. Again it just spins.

Problem #3 : I chose "Command R" for recovery mode but it again tries to download OS Lion afresh and that's not an option for me right now (I'm not in USA now, but in India. No high bandwidth connection) How can I do a fresh installation of Lion?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: WD MyBook Won't Mount After 10.7.4 Installation

May 17, 2012

I have a Western Digital MyBook 1 TB external USB drive that has worked fine for years. I used it a day and a half ago under 10.7.3 with absolutely no problems. I then upgraded to 10.7.4, and now the drive won't mount. It spins up for a second or two, then powers off. Console shows the following: 5/17/12 11:31:55.000 AM kernel: USBF:4544.789[0xffffff800aa42400] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in.  It will keep retrying.  (Port 1 of Hub at 0x4000000)5/17/12 11:31:58.000 AM kernel: USBF:4547.797[0xffffff800aa42400] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.

Do I have a borked installation of 10.7.4? Would a simple re-install fix the problem? It seems highly unlikely to me that the drive just happened to silently die in the interim between its last use and the 10.7.4 install... What's going on?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Installation From Thumb Stick Fails

Mar 13, 2012

I've got this older iMac but it has 2 GB and few weeks ago I managed to install Lion on a second partition of the internal HD. Sometimes the computer would hang or cause problems and I decided to install the whole system from scratch. After several failed attemps I finally figured, that the internal HD had a defect. So I decided to use an external usb drive to fix that problem for the beginning and before I think about changing the internal hard drive. I created 3 partitions with a GUID-table on the external usb drive and managed to install Leopard on the first partition and so far it's working fine and I boot from that external usb drive.

Now I wanted to install Lion on that computer. So I took that Lion thumb stick I purchased from apple and pressed the option key during boot in order to select booting from the thumb stick. It worked for the beginning and a message like "Installation" appeared. After a while the installation would stop with a message like "an error occured during installation, please try again". I did this two times but it never finished the installation.
