Using Lion Server, can I create a space that would be like iDisk for my users to save and access documents and files remotely? Also to make that shared between users? Basically make my own cloud space.
View 3 RepliesI have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck. Â
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!Â

I have set up a Mac Mini server to address the calendaring needs of my company. I have also turned on the iCal service using the Server app in the Lion OS. While the shared calendaring functions for individual users of iCal are great, my company is in need of general office calendar for postings of things like vacation times, company holidays, special conferences, etc. Is there a way to configure the Mac Mini server to allow the setup of such a calendar?

I'm about to update my OS to Lion but there's one thing keeping me from taking the plunge. I use spaces very heavily and I rely on my 2x3 layout. It's my understanding that lion keeps spaces (or I guess they're now called desktops or something) in a straight single file line. Can i get my rows back?Â

I bought a Mac Mini Server yesterday and set it up successfully (Set OD, etc). Everything was working great until I went back and tried to create new users via the server app. As of now, it gives me the error "SEUserErrorDomain error1" and tells me that it cannot create the user. Even though it says that, it will still show up in the user list with the "blue globe" (that I believe is from OD?) but disappear the moment I drill into it and try to save anything. Workgroup Manager will allow me to create the user, but it does not show up in the user list in the server app so I cannot enable certain services for the user (i.e. assign folders for share point, etc). Â
P.S. Apple tech support had me reinstall the 10.7.4 combo update - no help. They also had me use disk utility to repair permissions - no help. P.S.S. On a side note, I did install Samba 3 on the server via mac port to try and help with LDAP auth (I ended up going with pGina for my windows users), but I have no clue how to uninstall it.

I've just joined mobile me and so copied my documents folder into iDisk. But when I edit a file or create a new one, iDisk doesn't update. Does this mean I now have to save all files twice?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently upgraded to Mac OS Lion Server, and I'm having a big problem that's keeping me from finishing my last bit of work on a project. I've been trying to create network users so that they can sign in on any computer, and access their files via the server, but I've been told time and time again to create a Directory Administrator.Â
When I try to create one, I get this error
When I select a folder in the browser view and hit the download button, it tries to make a zip. If the folder is really large, I get an timeone message in the browser pop-up. If it does finish making the zip and I select download, nothing happens. Â
Is the mobileme site just slammed right now? I'd love to download my files before they go away. BTW, the warning messages for the shutdown went into the spam folder.
Normally, you can create a DNS record that points to the zone itself, e.g.:Â

How do you accomplish that on a Mac OSX Lion Server? The DNS requires you to enter a hostname and it does not accept "@" as the hostname as it normally appears in the zone file. (manually modifying the host file does not work - I tried that ;-) )Â

After updating to Lion server, I moved my Drobo over and setup Time Machine
Many users are prompeted to reuse or create a new backup.
The problem is I log in with credentials of 'USER A', and on the dialog it lists another 'USER B', userb.sparsebundle as the file to reuse. Â
I recently had a iMac hard drive die, and i tired to use the time machine on the server, with 'USER A' credentials, i got 4 listings and none of them were 'USER A'Â
I check the drobo and 'USER A''s sparsebundle is there. I have tried changeing permissions to read the sparsebudle, but the bundle is a 250k file, not a diskimage of the files even. Â
How do i resolve this problem of the wrong users coming up on "reuse or create new backup"?Â
How do i access the lost sparsebundle that i cannot log into to get the files for the user that needs them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have waited as long as possible to upgrade to Lion because SL works fine for me.But iDisks days are numbered and I have no choice but to upgrade.I have a lot of work files in iDisk.Now I need to get them to iCloud, but I am not sure how to do so or even if I can do so.As a precaution, I've put them (or most of them until I ran out of free space) into Dropbox.Now Dropbox wants me to pay $99/year for more space.I paid that for mobileme and was okay with it, but now it gripes me that I have to pay for something non-Apple (that was the whole reason I left the pc world) because what Apple now has (iCloud) won't do what I need it to do.

I just just changes from mobile me to icloud and upgraded to Lion, 10.7.4. idisk is no longer supported. I had recently run idisk which indicated a hard drive problem. Before I run out and buy new software and/or take my heavy imac to Apple store. I have an old version of disk warrior, but wouldn't trust with with all the new upgrades.

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOK, I've found most of what I need to configure Lion but I can't find the preference panel to change the 'all spaces' view to the old style (where you see all the spaces or desktops placed on the screen in equal sizes). The new default 'mission control' view isn't as useful to me. I also don't see where to assign apps to a specific space. Finally, how do you get at the 'spaces' option for a hot corner?

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!Â
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.Â
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

Is there a way to have certain apps only showing up on the dock in defined spaces? i.e. Calendar is only showing on the dock when you switch to space 2. So it does NOT show in the dock of space 1.

I have been unable to create an open directory replica from an open directory master.I have created an open directory master in Mavericks and added DNS, file sharing and users etc. I can connect, log in, all is good.I now want to create a replica on another machine for redundancy, yet I have been unable to do so. I have been able to diagnose through the terminal on each machine and get no errors except the following from the intended replica machine: Both Machines are Mac Mini servers, raided drives.
Replica has 8Gb RAM, Master has 16Gb  macsvr1:~ admin$ sudo /usr/sbin/slapconfig -preflightreplica 192.168.0.11 diradmin+0000 Error; Unable to determine the master’s software version  The rest of the terminal looks like this. Open Directory Master  Primary address    = 192.168.0.10Â

I can verify each machine version and all DNS is fine. Both machines are in identical OS systems. 10.9.4 Server 3.1.2. Network is good as I can ping each machine from the other. ssh is enabled on both yet still i'm unable to create a replica.
I am using Lion 10.7 , I assigned dreamweaver to desktop1 by choose Options > This Desktop when in desktop1. Then relaunch DW and it correctly opened in desktop 1. Now if i open a file using in finder (which is itself assigned to desktop3) on a file that is default to DW then Dreamweaver moves itself to Desktop3.
I thought the point was that we could assign different applications to different spaces and they would stay that way. Are we saying that if a file is opened from finder its default application will be moved and set up of spaces does not apply ?.

They are questions on a pdf, and I have been able to copy quite well from this pdf before, but all of a sudden this issue came up. I originally thought it was an issue with Byword, the markdown word processor I am using for one of the first times on my mac. But then I tried pasting into both word and pages and still the same issue.
