I have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck. Â
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!Â

I have no password on my idisk public folder. When I connect via a web browser (safari, firefox, ie 6) it still asks for a password. I have set and removed the password countless times. I connect via: ([URL], the public as user and the password). Only in firefox it asks for the password, I hit cancel without typing anything, it asks again, I hit cancel again and then I get access.
In IE6 and safari it asks once for the password, doesn't accept whatever I type and then loads forever without ever showing me the contents. It seems there is a permission problem or so. even when I set a password it will not accept it. i turn password off and still no luck. Why do I pay 100 bucks and then I can't use the idisk public folder? Logging into the idisk itself via a browser works fine. I just can't give anybody access to my idisk public folder even when I use the recommended browsers.
Quick question � do you know if there�s a way to let people upload files to your mobile me iDisk, without them having to enter your private account password in? Kinda like a public drop box? I know there are other services out there, but trying to see if I can do it all on mobile me, without having to sign up for additional services from other providers.

I haven't been able to copy files from my downloads folder to Font Book, or more importantly, copy files from my jump drive to a folder on my desktop.I also can't copy images from a CD to my desktop. All instances give the error message window "The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items." I should have permission to copy everything, but I'm wondering if in the case of the fonts, the new Lion OS prevents you from using fonts without a license (even if they're free??) pretty clueless

I'm using mac os x server as SMB file sharing server and i got some issues with permissions.Â
I try to use POSIX permissions. I put :
owner -> read & write
group -> read & write
other -> read onlyÂ
And after propagate these permissions it's working fine.
Until an user create a folder or a file and i see that the permissions of it are :
owner -> read & write
group -> read only
other -> read onlyÂ
I have set default permissions on new files and folder for this sharepoint with the great permissions for the group. But it didn't work..Someone have a solution ?

i have 1 user on my imac. when i access the imac over my network from my mbp, i see 3 folders - the hard drive folder, the main user folder, and also a public folder from a previous user which i have since deleted. there should only be 2 folders visible.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am desperate for help because whatever I do I cannot get my own certificates to work. When I first set up Lion Server a so-called Intermediate CA and a corresponding SSL server certificate was automatically installed and that works fine. Now, I wanted to create my own Certificate Authority (CA) and a leaf SSL server certificate.[URL]First I created my own CA, and then I created a new certificate with the Server App (ID type "leaf", certificate type "SSL server". (see screenshots below), and I had it signed by my own CA. When I checked the certificate it said "valid".Next, I exported the certificate from the keychain (as .p12) and then I went to Server App's "Import a certificate identity" to drag and drop the certificate onto the window. So far so good.
When I opened the list of certificates (Server App -> Hardware -> SSL -> Edit ) the new certificate showed up once, and after the Server App had tried to install the certificate it simply did not show up any more. I have copied the important parts of the certificate below (private parts have been cropped).The common name and the DNS name are "myserver.domain.private", and yes, DNS is working fine.(I stopped started services and re-booted in between creating and importing the new certificate.)Â

I have waited as long as possible to upgrade to Lion because SL works fine for me.But iDisks days are numbered and I have no choice but to upgrade.I have a lot of work files in iDisk.Now I need to get them to iCloud, but I am not sure how to do so or even if I can do so.As a precaution, I've put them (or most of them until I ran out of free space) into Dropbox.Now Dropbox wants me to pay $99/year for more space.I paid that for mobileme and was okay with it, but now it gripes me that I have to pay for something non-Apple (that was the whole reason I left the pc world) because what Apple now has (iCloud) won't do what I need it to do.

Well it happens to be on a server and I am trying to iron out what happens when you completely trash the system and start over. This problem occured in a subdirectory on one folder. It (the triangles ->) are there for all the other folders. However, there is one folder I had on a backup (backup, meaning still being a previous version of Lion) that at one point that any group of folders I place into it. there is no browsing triangle that lets you go down furthur. Yes you can open the folder and go further in, so its not prefs that I am aware of. Â

I have two Macs, a desktop PM G5 and a laptop Black Macbook, both running 10.5.8. Currently when using the laptop I can see and access the PMG5 and its files through my wireless connection. I'm planning on picking up an external drive, and I'd just like this confirmed, as in its access ability. If I hook up the external drive to the G5 so I can leave it there, and access its files through the G5. will my laptop also be able to access it through the G5. In other words, when I access the G5 from the laptop over wireless, will the external drive appear as just another folder and/or device on the G5 and I'll be able to move and copy files just like I already do?

My public folder was name using my full name. How can I change this? Firstly, where did it get my name from? Maybe I typed my full name in at some point - I can't remember, but now i use my intials for my login name and proper short name. I deselected the folder for sharing then reselected it trying to find if it was re-nameable and in doing this my full name has disappeared but my short name or initials havent been used - so now it just says "Public" - does anyone know how to name this so when someone selects my laptop under Network it shows "Yuan's" Public Folder? Maybe if I restart the laptop or repair permissions it will correct itself - ill try now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally ripped my music into digital format. It is a very large library so I performed the rips in four segments creating four folders of music. The highest level folders are Music1, Music2, Music3, Music4. The next layer folder is the artists name, then album name, then the actual MP3S.
How do I merge the folders? If I perform a copy the first artist name is sees that already is exists, the finder wants me to skip the copy or replace the folder that is there. I simply want to add the folder or merge it. Is there a "merge" function in OSX? I tried Carbon Copy but it will not copy or sync fils on the same disk.
Does anyone know what happens to the local copy of iDisk (created and maintained by the 'synchronise'-option) after the online service is closed?

I had to format the hd where I have time machine, so I copy the tm folder to a new folder in other external hard drive.Now that I format the 1st external hd I trying to copy the tm folder to the root of the formated hd, but after a long wait I get a message saying that there is enought space...How can I copy that big folder faster, is there any other way ?

I want to sync my MacBook Pro w/ my iMac (both running Lion).I want to be able to come home from a business trip and have all of the new / edited info on my MacBook (new photos (organized & edited), changes to various folders in "documents", random files/folders added to desktop, changes made in iTunes, etc) show up on my iMac, which I work off of while at home. And of course the reverse - sync the changes on my iMac to my MacBook before I travel again.Wouldn't it be possible to copy a User's Home Folder on Machine 1 to an external drive, and then use that to replace / update the Home Folder on Machine 2? Or possibly do a complete Disc Clone (i.e. Super Duper) of Machine 1, and then use that to "restore" Machine 2? What are the pros and cons?And any better solutions? I realize that my proposals may be over simplified, but also that my goal must be a common one.

I am trying to write /Users/xxx to a Lexar 8g flash drive. Its size is under 1g. I can easily put subfolders onto the drive, but if I try to feed it the entire home folder it tosses it out again. I don't know how to use Finder to reach the /Users folder, where xxx is just a subfolder, but I can do this from the terminal command line; however, then I got stuck on how to proceed: I tried to mount /dev/disk1 [which diskutil shows as its name]; each variation I'v tried runs into some problem: disk busy, not found, etc. I was using sudo commands, so I don't think it's a permissions problem.
