how can i re-create a hidden lion partition after creating a RAID 1 array for Lion Server 10.7.3 My new mac-mini did not come in the array i'd expect it to come with being a server?

I am fairly certain how to go about and build myself a basic file server for a bunch of PCs networked together, but I am not sure about how to do it for a network of Macs.

I have the server exactly as I want it, and before the users start logging on and it gets all screwed up I would like to create a disk image of it so that I could reinstall if necessary w/o having to start from scratch.Â
Is the process of creating a disk image for a RAID 1 any different than that of a disk image from a single drive set up? Will Disk utility just see this as a single volume or will it want to create a disk image of the entire RAID? i.e will the disk image be 1 TB (500 GB x 2)? And when it comes to reimaging my RAID, will I just recreate a RAID 1 and be able to write to it from that disk image?Â

I just got a 2nd caviar black 1tb and I'm goin to be setting up raid with another drive.. I have data on my current 1tb which is backed up with time machine. what do I have to do to get the drives workin in raid? I'm lookin to have a faster write speed since I need the raid setup. Since I will be using the 2 drives for my data and a photoshop scratch disk, should I create a partition for the scratch disk? I've seen some say yes.. I have an existing striped raid 0 setup with 2 x 500 GB hard drives.
I just bought 2 more x 500 GB hard drives since i noticed HDD is a bottleneck for my 8 core system.
my question is, can i add the 2 harddrives to my existing raid 0 partition ? (so i have one raid partition of 2 TB )
Difficulty deciding between 1 or 2. Unsure about real world performance gain of 2. No experience with SSDs or RAID 0. Worried about alignment and sleep/hibernate issues. Stock 5400rpm 320GB will go inside eSATA enclosure. Does anybody have a good eSATA ExpressCard/34 to recommend? I don't care about the SuperDrive. But I'll keep it for Care warranty purposes.

Currently I've got the system disk setup in Bay 1 as a single disk. Then I have the disks in bays 2 through 4 setup as a raid 5. I've been thinking that I might be better off to make all 4 disks into a raid 5 array and then just make volumes for the system disk and my work disk. My goal is to have a system volume an a scratch/work volume for image and video editing.

I have two choices.
1. Apple's Mac Pro RAID Controller, Four Drives, RAID 0+1. One big disk, highest cost.
2. Or, some other RAID Controller (?), Three matching drives, RAID 5. Then, 1 big drive for OS/Applications/Time Machine.
I'd probably move my Home folder to the RAID Array and have just my data striping amongst those drives. Has anyone had a dilemma like this before? I like the idea of hardware separation of my Home folder from the OS.

The idea was I would have a reserve volume I could load another system onto and it would come in handy.Â
The problem is that I didn't know that the startup drive was going to have to have an accounting application running on it that needed to have its data on the same volume. This data is growing rapidly and I am in need of expanding the volume. I have a backup of the whole setup.Â
From what I can gather from my searches, I should be able to resize these partitions but I wanted to know if anyone out there had a similar setup and had tried this. Right now there is no data on Partition 2 so my thought was to delete this partition from the RAID set and then expand Partition 1, doubling the size of my startup. This would get rid of my backup startup but I could achieve that with an external drive.Â
My hesitation is because I can't find any reference to doing this with a RAID 0+1 scheme (I would have preferred 1+0 but the RAID card didn't offer it...).

So if you use an eSata adapter (even if it has dual eSATA ports) it would only have one eSATA channel And that would be limited further by the express card slot and more still by the type of card (make, model, etc..). My question is: with Barefeats claiming even the best eSATA card for a MBP being 200MB/s (even if you claim less) using a dual eSATA RAID connection for a stripped array would be limited to 100MB/s per port. Is this correct? Because I'm trying to understand this to see if it's worth building a RAID setup for my MBP when I'm home.

I have a new Mac Pro Quad 2.93 with the Mac RAID card installed with four 1TB drives setup in a RAID 5 array. When creating the volumes in the RAID utility, you can not edit them, resize, etc. If one large volume is created in the RAID utility, you can then partition that one volume using the Apple Disk Utility, which then allows you to resize if needed.

I have set up a Mac Mini server to address the calendaring needs of my company. I have also turned on the iCal service using the Server app in the Lion OS. While the shared calendaring functions for individual users of iCal are great, my company is in need of general office calendar for postings of things like vacation times, company holidays, special conferences, etc. Is there a way to configure the Mac Mini server to allow the setup of such a calendar?

Apparently, whoever upgraded my machine didn't create a recovery boot disk before upgrading. So, I have no recovery partition and apparently no ability to create a recovery boot usb without one.

I'm trying to create a Boot Camp partition but I'm unable to make one large enough. Using the Book Camp disk tool, I'm not able to create a partition larger than 68GB.Â
When I open disk utility, it shows me that ~250GB are used as a startup partition. Is this standard for Lion? My hard drive shows ~203GB free so space shouldn't be an issue. The disc utility tells me the startup partition cannot be resized, locking up the ~250GB so I'm unable to do anything.Â
Is there a way to resize this startup partition or is my only option getting a larger hard drive. My goal was to make ~100GB partition for Windows and Boot Camp. I used debug in disc utility to look at any hidden partitions but they only amounted to ~250MB, not effecting much.Â

So here the deal. I have a single hard drive in my MacBook Pro. Its made up into 2 partitions (one for os x and the other for data). I want to make the OS X partition into 2 separate partitions (so I'll have a total of 3) without erasing any data. I want to use that new partition to install windows. When I select the OS X partition, and set it to format at NTFS, it says the size cannot support the filesystem (25GB in this case). What size does it have to be then? Or should I format as FAT32?
I know FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit so I don't want to do that because I want to install some games on the Windows partition. How should I go about doing this?

The Drive is partitioned at 500GB for Windows and 300GB for Mac.
In windows, I need to shrink the Windows drive, and then create 2 extra drives from it.
However, I can shrink the drive, but when I try to Format, it tells me that it cannot find the drive, and then it changes the drive types to all "Dynamic" including the Mac Drive.
And once this happens, I can no longer access the Mac drive during Boot, and windows will not load, as it cannot find the drive during windows boot up. And which point, I have to restore the system and it takes up to 6 hours to installed Lion, as my Internet is slowing that a cold winters day.Â
So, my question is the following.
How can I successfully shrink the drive.
Then Partition the FREE space
Then Format to NTFS without loosing drive type and integrity?Â
