I have waited as long as possible to upgrade to Lion because SL works fine for me.But iDisks days are numbered and I have no choice but to upgrade.I have a lot of work files in iDisk. Now I need to get them to iCloud, but I am not sure how to do so or even if I can do so.As a precaution, I've put them (or most of them until I ran out of free space) into Dropbox. Now Dropbox wants me to pay $99/year for more space.I paid that for mobileme and was okay with it, but now it gripes me that I have to pay for something non-Apple (that was the whole reason I left the pc world) because what Apple now has (iCloud) won't do what I need it to do.

Using Lion Server, can I create a space that would be like iDisk for my users to save and access documents and files remotely? Also to make that shared between users? Basically make my own cloud space.

I just just changes from mobile me to icloud and upgraded to Lion, 10.7.4. idisk is no longer supported. I had recently run idisk which indicated a hard drive problem. Before I run out and buy new software and/or take my heavy imac to Apple store. I have an old version of disk warrior, but wouldn't trust with with all the new upgrades.

How can I remove the iDisk icon from the finder sidebar in Lion?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck. Â
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!Â

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!Â
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.Â
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

If I were to use iDisk to save some of my files online, can I then access them from one of our PCs at work ? Have not found any mention of PC compatibility on the apple website.

iDisk seems to be realy coming to an end Using it on a daily basis. What is the best alternative?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have been using iDisk as back-up storage and as an FTP site (using FileChute) for client files. From what i can tell, this will no longer be possible with iCloud. Worked simply and quickly. Hope there is an iCloud alternative.

I'm running 10.6.5 and have MobileMe iDisk syncing turned on - which I like and use.
Is there a way to remove the iDisk icon from the Desktop at all as I really like an empty desktop?
I was playing around with a .mac trial account and got the iDisk icon on my desktop. When I try to drag it to the trash bin the trash bin changes and says eject, but nothing happens when I release the mouse. It seems that there is no way for me to delete this icon.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI know this question was asked for a while, but I can't find the answer for 10.5.2. My point is, I wanted my iDisk to be backed up by Time Machine just as any other folder of my computer (by that, I mean backing up the local iDisk copy on the time machine HD, NOT backing up time machine on the iDisk). Until now, the only thing time machine did was copying the .sparsebundle of the iDisk any time a single file changed. Two drawbacks: a single change = 8Gb (for me) on time machine + restauration of a single 60k word file required to restore the entire disk image before extracting the right file.
This is why I stopped using iDisk. Now has someone by any chance a synced iDisk with 10.5.2 and tested backing up with time machine? I know some of you will answer iDisk is already a back up in itself. Sure, but there is no versioning every hour, plus I'd had synced issues that lead to losing on or two files (happened twice). This is why I won't use my iDisk until I can properly back it up/restore it in TM. BTW, I'm lazy to do the test myself, as re-activating the sync of my iDisk will take at least 2 hours to recreate the local copy on my MBP (hey Apple, remember you have EU customers?
My MBP blew up so am on a temporary Blackbook and luckily all my important day to day docs are on my iDisk, no problem I thought... But something really odd is happening, when I try to open a spreadsheet with Excel (tried 04 and 08) it says "the file may be read only or you may be trying to access a read only location or the server the document on may not be responding".
I can open the file with open office and ALL other file types open fine from iDisk (including Word and PPT).
At the moment I am having to drag the files to my desktop edit them and drag them back to iDisk so all is up to date when I get my computer back.
Has anyone had anything similar? Any tips gratefully received (apart from the obvious; ditch MS Office!).
After first noticing the problem I set iDisk to keep a local copy on the temp machine but this made no difference.
Quick question do you know if theres a way to let people upload files to your mobile me iDisk, without them having to enter your private account password in? Kinda like a public drop box? I know there are other services out there, but trying to see if I can do it all on mobile me, without having to sign up for additional services from other providers.
