Why not have Apple move all iDisk contents automatically or by request to iCloud? Why do I need to copy and paste my saved iDisk items back to my MAC or storage device? The iDisk items are already located in an Apple server, so transfer them to iCloud.

This was a big selling point of the service -- being able to send direct links to people via email to allow them to download files from your iDisk (like [URL]). Not only is it not there, but according to a thread on Apple Support, Apple has removed the video presentation of the feature from the web site.
View 39 Replies View RelatedThinking about ditching the optical drive in my mid 2008 2.5Ghz 15" Macbook Pro and adding a small but fast SSD drive. My idea is to have two hard drives obviously. I would like to have the SSD drive be my specialized drive for running FCP and possible After Effects. The older 250GB drive that is the original equipment would be my main drive. I would do all my web design, flash, photoshop, illustrator, ftp, ssh, programming and web surfing/everyday stuff. Both Drives would be bootable. the 250 drive would have snow leopard and everything else on it and the SSD drive would have snow leopard as well. Is this possible or practical? Would the gains in performance and stability gained from segmenting the two systems be noticeable and worth it? I've seen some articles on dual booting different OS's on the same drive but never on their own exclusive drive with the same OS.

I was wondering if having this single video chip would affect my ability to run higher resolutions, and multiple monitors. As I recall, you can have two external monitors plus the 15" LCD.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have waited as long as possible to upgrade to Lion because SL works fine for me.But iDisks days are numbered and I have no choice but to upgrade.I have a lot of work files in iDisk. Now I need to get them to iCloud, but I am not sure how to do so or even if I can do so.As a precaution, I've put them (or most of them until I ran out of free space) into Dropbox. Now Dropbox wants me to pay $99/year for more space.I paid that for mobileme and was okay with it, but now it gripes me that I have to pay for something non-Apple (that was the whole reason I left the pc world) because what Apple now has (iCloud) won't do what I need it to do.

Using Lion Server, can I create a space that would be like iDisk for my users to save and access documents and files remotely? Also to make that shared between users? Basically make my own cloud space.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just just changes from mobile me to icloud and upgraded to Lion, 10.7.4. idisk is no longer supported. I had recently run idisk which indicated a hard drive problem. Before I run out and buy new software and/or take my heavy imac to Apple store. I have an old version of disk warrior, but wouldn't trust with with all the new upgrades.

How can I remove the iDisk icon from the finder sidebar in Lion?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have turned on File Sharing on the server, and having logged into my iDisk via Finder, I thought I could drag the folder from the Finder window to the Public folder icon on Lion Server, but no luck. Â
I am signed into Lion Server as the admin, so what should I do? I'm trying to copy those files from the iDisk before time runs out and Apple scrubs iDisk!Â

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!Â
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.Â
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

I've been contemplating recently (as most mac users do) about switching my 2 year old MBP (2.2 ghz, 2gb ram, 8600m) to the new MBP (15" 2.8, newer gfx, touchpad and a few minor details).
I've been eying the ebay prices for some time and my particular model (with charger, snow leopard, original accessories but w/o box) is valued at about 700gbp. Perhaps people might disagree with me here - how much is it really worth ?
My main point / question is really at what point should I ditch the existing MBP in favor of the new mbp - does it really offer me that much of a benefit at this time to upgrade? I'd sure like the new graphics card in there (is it really that much better?) but I'm not sure there's a significant enough difference there.
On the other hand if I wait much longer the MBP will become pretty devalued and not get me much back for the new and improved MBP - maybe apple's going to improve them soon anyway?
Does anyone think Apple will ever reincarnate the Macbook, or has the Macbook air taken over for good as Apple's main, relatively-low-priced laptop?Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a few year old iBOOK G4 with the glowing apple on the back of the screen much like, if not the same as, the newer Macbooks. I have seen some pictures of people modding the lit apple on the back to a color of their choice. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, links, or "how-to's" on this subject.

I am trying to change back to the Apple Mail.app 3.5 from Microsoft Entourage and I can't seem to achieve this. I am afraid my Entourage will crash soon because my Database is currently 10.2 GB large. I had to switch 2 years ago from Mail to Entourage, after I lost all my mails because the Mail.app was corrupted. I have had a change of computer although I did migrate my data and was hoping that the mail.app was working better but it is doing strange things like importing folders with no content - although it marks them with the amount of mails located within. It also refuses to import (admittedly) large amounts of mails from Entourage, it doesn't matter if it is just a single folder or several folders. It hoards some old mails in its INBOX which remain there even after I have erased them numerous times. They just keep coming back.
When I use the import option of the mail.app it will not take over all my mails but will save parts of the database or crash when I try to feed it mBox files. I realise my databases are very large but there must be some way to import data from one programme to another. I think somehow my mail.app is broken or it can't handle the huge Entourage database, is there some way I can discover whether this might be the case? I am starting to think I should stick to Entourage because it has been performing faithfully for the past years and I like the appearance more, but because I had database issues under Entourage 2004, I'm afraid my huge database will someday become irreparable. I have a 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro, 2GB Dram, System 10.5.6, Entourage 2008 and of course the mail.app which I've had to reinstall (with Pacifist) and fix with the new Apple Mail Update that was issued on DEC 23, 2008 (which is supposed to solve stability issues).
I have QT 7.6.6 and trying to play back a file shown as an Apple animation, frame size 634 x 766 at 60FPS, it is showing a data rate of 535.01mbs it stutters during playback, any ideas please?

i need some help regarding my iMac. I was busy installing combo update 10.5.8 on my iMac when the power in the entire house went down due to the snow. When I started my iMac back up it got stuck on the apple logo with the spinning wheel below it. I can leave it there for as long as i like nothing happens. I had the idea to reboot using the CD's i got with the iMac but there is already a disc in the discloader so i can't put the reboot CD's in. anybody know how i can get my iMac to work again? There aren't any files on the computer that i neccesarely need but if i would be able to save my photo's etc. it would be great.
When I switched to ICloud I thought my Apple ID and password would work for Apple store. It turns out they have a different Apple ID at the Apple store with a diferent password that I do not remember. HOw can I make the ICloud Apple ID and password work for all other platforms?
