I have an up to date Lion server that I have created a 10.7.3 netboot image with. The issue I am having is that in Server Admin, the netboot image shows in the images list, but does not show up on any client machine. I have tried re-creating the image using the same hard drive, as well as creating an entirely new image. The images just will not show on client machines

I'm trying to get NetBoot and NetInstall working on a recently set up a new Mac Mini with OS X Lion Server.We previously had Snow Leopard server and moved the existing images onto the Lion Server.However,when trying to boot off either image the machines kernel panic.Have tried creating new images, but with the same result.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have to admit that while I've watched over a lab of Macs and an OS X Server for several years, I'm still a novice at it. Despite that, I've managed to keep it going amongst my other sysadmin duties in a K-12 educational environment.
We just procured a lab of 30 new iMac 20" models, a new XServe, and a LaCie Biggest RAID box for backup, replacing our aging Graphite G4's running 10.3 and our Quicksilver Panther server. My plan for this coming year was to make life easier by switching to Netboot, and making our logins more seamless as well. All has been going well with figuring out the transition, but I'm concerned about Final Cut Express HD, which I purchased bundled with our machines to expand our horizons a little. It appears that Apple does not support running it under NetBoot from the docs I've found.
Has anyone here set this up successfully? I'm concerned first about the 30 individual serial numbers causing issues. I think I can get around any scratch disk issues by making a partition on the local iMac a scratch disk, but as I said, I'm swimming in unfamiliar waters.
This problem is on a Xserv G4.
The problem happened on the server installed with x.3.9 runnig for over a year, giving AFP, FTP, NFS, services and runnig OPEN DIRECTORY in REPLICA. The DHCP service is provided by a Xserv g5 giving Netboot service on the same subnet.
In Server Admin, Netboot lost the setting menu as I was accessing it. So no ports to see, no images can be added. The only menus available are

Through TERMINAL, with sudo serveradmin start netboot I get

I have undated to TIGER X.4.3, but of couse, it is the same. Everything else works.
After reinstalling a NEW system a reconfiguring EVERYTHING, I again lost the menus of NetBoot as I accessed them !!
Booting witn and external FireWire drive with a clone of my working SYSTEM in x.3.9 has the menus but the ports can't be seen.
A hardware problem ?
To date we have been reimaging any new Macs or failed ones with an image that sits on our external firewire drive. This image includes all our corporate apps etc etc.
An an alternative to this, I would like to explore the use of NetBoot/NetInstall/NetRestore to reimage these machines.
To be clear, I dont want to NetBoot a machine just to use an image off the server (OSX server 10.3.9) and thats it, just to boot off the server and have a another image (our corporate one, applied to the client machine.
I have been reading loads about this and have been messing about creating an image etc but I underdstand that I have to enable NetBoot on the OSX server and also host the image I want applied to the client Mac on a sharepoint ?
I'm trying to setup a macmini server with four different firewire drives (has this working in 10.6.8 working great) however in lion server you can only have ONE timemachine backup destination.apple put an Share items/Backups folder with a .com.apple.timemachine.supported file in it. and set permissions to a group com.apple.backup_access However i can't dublicate this setup and have the system accept an extra folder on another drive.Â

I have a few labs that will be running Tiger. I have an XSERVE that is running Tiger Server. All of my users are stored on a Windows 2003 server in AD.
I know how to bind an OSX machine to AD. What is the best way to set up my mac labs/Xserve so that when the users log in they get their home folder on the Windows server but have their preferences managed by Workgroup manager?
Mail on our leopard server suddenly stopped recieving extrnal mail about a month ago then around 2 weeks ago stopped receiving anything internally. When i telnet in it tells me the user is not enabled even though in server admin and WGM say it is. I have tried building a new server, ive had the mx records checked, the router and line checked, and the dns on the server is working fine.

I just configured my Snow Leopard Server to distribute Lion update's [URL]I also see that the sync is competed with all latets Lion update's and all are enabled. I've adjust all the settings on the clients:sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL [URL]The problem is that all my 10.6 and 10.7 clients doesnt see any availble update's and running the Software Update on the cllient i get the message "The software is up-to-date" I checked all the configs.....reset the complete SUS server and started all over but still the same issue!

Point me in the right direction for deploying Leopard images from a lion server. I want to know if there is a way that I can create an image from a iMac that runs Leopard but then be able to deploy it from a lion server onto other iMacs.
View 1 Replies View Related I've got a Leopard MacBook with Screen Sharing turned on and a VNC password set. I've got a Tiger iMac with Remote Desktop enabled and a VNC password set, with Chicken of the VNC on it to use with the MacBook. I've also got an iPod touch with Mocha VNC Lite on it (not a great client, and I still have an older version cuz the new versions took away functionality, but it's the only free one I found). By the way, I also tried this with the updated version of Mocha VNC, and it didn't make any difference.
So I've had this setup for months, hell almost a year, with no problems. I haven't used VNC from the iPod much lately, but when I tried to tonight, this is what happened:
Viewing and controlling the iMac from the iPod was no problem. Worked as usual. But when I connected to the MacBook, it would load the very top part of the screen (maybe 200-250 rows of pixels, I really don't know) and then seemingly freeze. No more would load, what did load wouldn't ever refresh, and even when I tried to blindly control with the iPod's keyboard, nothing happened. Only the VNC app didn't freeze, it was still responsive as ever, as if it was totally unaware that anything had gone wrong.
The weird thing is, when I go on the iMac and connect to the MacBook with Chicken of the VNC, it works fine again.
So basically...
iPod -> iMac, no problem
iMac -> MacBook, no problem
iPod -> MacBook, problem
Where could this be coming from? I don't know when it started exactly, but the only thing I can come up with is that it must have started when I updated to 10.5.8.
I have just brought myself a Mac Mini Server Edition for my business and am struggling to set it all up so they work together. Ill quickly explain my setup - I have a Mac mini server connected to a 48 port Net gear router and currently have 9 client computers all of which are dell's running Windows Vista basic. I also have two non-network printers connected to the server and another network printer connected to the router.
Basically, I am having trouble making the clients talk to the server. For example, when i start up my MacBook laptop I can automatically log into my server and access files. However, the Server doesn�t seem to register on the Client computers.
It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could give a little input into how to network them. In addition to this, I have purchased a Domain Name and have paid for Domain Name Severing (i.e. it is live). I want my employees to be able to connect into the Server through this domain name via the VPN feature on the Mac Mini Server - does anyone know anything about setting this up?
Just upgraded a Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server 10.7.3 and the Web Service works along with all of my virtual hosts BUT the default site that shows isn't the one that Server.app says should show, its the first virtual host that shows.
I've tried adding "ServerName myserver.mydomain.com" params into the 0000_any_80_.conf which hasn't worked. Anyone know a workaround for this? Can't use the Wiki or Webmail without it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedConfiguration: I have the latest iMac running Mountian Lion. I connect via WiFi to a Linksys modem that is connected to my ISP's WiFI modem which connects to a tower a few miles away which, in turn, connects to the ISP's processors somewhere nearby. Â
On the network diagnostics Network status there are indicators for WiFi, WiFi settings, Network Settings, ISP, Internet and server.Â
Occasionally the internet and server indicators go to yellow and then red resulting in no connection. I have reset the Linksys, the ISP WiFi modem, both and it does not seem to make any difference. Eventually the Internet and Server indicators return to green and the connection is restored. When they are yellow or red, it affects all processors in the house (iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, iPod, etc).
I have just installed 10.4.9 Server on a Mac Mini, I am no expert but I got most of the services running using a book on setting up server.
The problem I have is everyone on the local network can send and recieve mail no problem using IMAP or POP3 accounts and even Webmail works offsite,
But when someone is offsite like at home, they cannot authenticate and connect to the server to send mail, we use Apple mail but have even tried Thunderbird and Outlook on a PC. None will connect.
Currently we are using CRAM-MD5 for mail authentication.
Images aren't showing up in any emails (regardless of sender) even though I have the "Display remote images" box checked.

A while back I started noticing some odd behaviour in Messages AppÂ
We use this at the office to communicate between systems, and often send image files back and forth between co-workers. Recently though a bug began in which images don't actually show in line, but rather simply show the filename and a link to open it in Finder.
The weirdest part of the bug is that if the chat window is open in the background the image will display just fine. However as soon as I switch to make it active in order to respond or quicklook the image it immediately becomes the filename with the magnifying glass icon to direct me to it's location in finder.Â
I have a machine running 10.7.4 that I want to be able to access via sftp/ssh.Â
I can login into the machine in terminal using either ssh or sftp. I cannot however login to the machine from finder via sftp. I am just told the username/password is wrong.Â
Equally I cannot login to the machine from certain clients on my android phone (the main reason I need sftp)Â I can however login from cyberduck on the other machines I have, and from some clients on my android phone.Â
When a mac is denied access it gives authentication failed as the reason, when a android client is denied access it gives network communtaction issues as its reason for failing, not authentication. From memory these issues started when smb broke for me in 10.7.3.Â

I created some blank disk images to store sensitive data in; with some I created my own password and with others I had the system do it. I also made the mistake of instructing the system to remember the passwords. Remembering the passwords kind of defeats the purpose as it automatically opens the folders. I want to be prompted for a password and never have been. I want to delete the blank disk image folders, but have not found a way of doing this and then I will create them again and instruct it not to remember the passwords. How to delete or change the password settings?

I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

I have 3 macs and a PS3/Xbox 360 all running on a protected wireless network at my house...our iPhones also use the network when necessary.
Right now I am on the MacBook Pro, my iMac is on in another room, and all other devices are off. Usually under shared from this computer I just see my iMac in finder because I allow sharing between the 2 computers... but I noticed something odd that I've never seen before. Something else is showing up under "Shared". It looks like another computer and says "mac001b639f####" I didnt fill in the last 4 characters just in case this ends up being some sort of personal info that I shouldnt be sharing.
I'm new to mac and don't have any idea on how I got this one. I already tried to restart my machine but the "ibmt61l3cv479" keeps on displaying on the Shared list. I didn't connect to any PC Servers and afraid that someone is accessing my mac.
Do you know how can I get rid of this?
I have 1 tb data drive on server for student files but only using 40gb and says out of space. I cannot figure out where the space is located.
