Office equiped mixed computers , aslo Windows and Mac, Could we use MacMini server for both machines, working by windows apps and / or to save and work with windows files on MacMini server and with Mac as well?We woud use it for normal office work and get it by internet from other places as wellwindows apps: merchandising, invoice, word, excel, pictures editing, Outlook Express + the Mac apps

Everything works great as long as I'm under 31 characters.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8. Is there a default setting on either the server or the Mac to allow for this to happen?

I am thinking about getting the mac mini server for my fathers business. Everyone uses a Windows machines in his business, so I was wondering if anyone has this setup (with the back end being the mini). I was hoping people could let me know how well it works, and how they use calendars emails without outlook etc.

I am trying to load Windows 2008 R2 on a brand new mac mini server. I have a USB DVD burner hooked up with the 2008 DVD inserted. I hold down option(alt) and then choose the CD to boot off of. It then said hit any key to boot from CD, I do, then I get a black bar across the bottom that says loading windows files. That bar take a minute or so to completely go to the right, and then the process does not continue any further. I don't really feel like I should need to use BootCamp to complete this as I only want to use this as a 2008 server, and I want 100% of the hard drive capacity dedicated as so. Secondly, does anyone know if I will have the opportunity to set things up to use the two internal drives in a striped RAID 0, and still boot from them?

I bought the mac mini server to use as a computer in my truck. I bought the server version because it has two hard drives in it. How should I go about installing windows 7 on it? I tried installing windows from a bootable flash drive but that didn't work as it wasn't visible at startup.

I have a Mac Mini 2007 1.83 intel core 2 duo that i read is a 64 bit system? well i am trying to install windows server 2008 trial which i downloaded directly from the microsoft site. i then burned it to a disk using disk utility on my regular imac. When i put it in my mac mini though it gets to the boot up where it should be installing and says " non-system disk or no disk please insert a different disk and hit any key" i dont understand why it is doing this though. i but a ubuntu 11.10 iso disk in and it can read it just fine.

I have just brought myself a Mac Mini Server Edition for my business and am struggling to set it all up so they work together. Ill quickly explain my setup - I have a Mac mini server connected to a 48 port Net gear router and currently have 9 client computers all of which are dell's running Windows Vista basic. I also have two non-network printers connected to the server and another network printer connected to the router.
Basically, I am having trouble making the clients talk to the server. For example, when i start up my MacBook laptop I can automatically log into my server and access files. However, the Server doesn�t seem to register on the Client computers.
It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could give a little input into how to network them. In addition to this, I have purchased a Domain Name and have paid for Domain Name Severing (i.e. it is live). I want my employees to be able to connect into the Server through this domain name via the VPN feature on the Mac Mini Server - does anyone know anything about setting this up?

I'm on a Mac Pro connected via SMB to a Windows 2003 and Finder will not search files on the server. Is there anyway to make this allowable? I can't change anything on the server BTW--only on my Mac.
Just for interest... Adobe Bridge will search the files on the server, but it doesn't catch them all even if I direct it to include subfolders and un-indexed files. It still misses some files that meet the search criteria.

I recently became unable to view files on the PC at work. I used to be able to see the computer in the Finder as long as I was connected to the wifi. I can still my coworker's mac, which has not been upgraded to Yosemite. Additionally, his mac can see the PC in his Finder. Also, when I load windows on my mac, I can access the PC. I think this is related to other issues posted here, but nothing seems to to these specifics.

We had a mac which was on Leopard and saved files to the server
The file system we use is a Windows 2008 File Server, this has worked fine with leopard for years
However I understand that Leopard splits the files into resource forks - and that Lion has dropped support for these files. That particular mac is now on Lion as we upgraded and encountering LOTS of issues
I unable to open or edit lots of the files as i believe chunks of the files are missing. E.g an .eps file showed as 740KB on leopard - Viewing from a windows PC it was 730kb for the .eps and 10kb for the ._ resource fork.
Now that we are on the LION upgrade, we only see the .eps file and it is only 730kb. Information missing is things such as preview (quark), Font data, type of file, version number. we have hundreds! of images, files etc created with leopard and now upgraded to lion they all have become useless!
Rejoining the resource forks and files together so that they are usable on lion

I just ran the Boot Camp utility and installed Windows 7 on my Mac Mini. Everything seems to work pretty well. From Windows I can see the Mac partition and from Mac I can see the Windows partition. Each OS has it's own Users file structure. Now, I recently converted over to Mac this month and have over a decade worth of files from my PC that I plan to migrate over. Best-case, I would like to be able to easily access those files no matter what OS I am using. Should I create a 3rd partition for just files? Pick either the Mac or Windows partition to be the master for the files? Can each OS easily use a different folder for the Users files (I know I was able to do it with Vista in the past, not sure about SL).

I have seen other posts and I'm concerned that I didn't have all the info that I need. I would like to install Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit on my IMac at home using VirtualBox. VirtualBox is like Parallels or VMware and is free. Where is the best place to get a Windows Server install disk and is there anything that I should look out for when installing it on my IMac?

Last night I installed VMWare Fusion and Windows 7 on my Unibody MBP running SL. When I use Fusion, my computer slows to a crawl. I spent a few hours getting Windows set up and installing software last night.
I would like to try using Boot Camp instead, but do not want to lose all of the software and files that I have installed. Is it possible to set up Boot Camp, and keep the same Windows setup?

As you know, Boot Camp 3.0 allows the window partition to see Mac files and folders without additional software.
I am trying to set up Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center to use on my Xbox 360.
When I tell Windows Media Player to load files from a Mac folder, I can navigate to that folder no problem, but after going through the steps, it fails to load ANY media.

Is there a way to make it so that only windows in installed on my Mac Mini (not using boot camp). I plan on buying a MacBook Pro when they get an upgrade (which I am getting really sick and tired of waiting for but that is another topic) and will be using that for my primary computer. I also need to have a computer with Windows installed for testing purposes (IE for web and also for my Unity projects) and figured that installing it on my Mac Mini would be the best plan.

I'm copying files from my old Windows machine to my new Mac. On my Mac, I can see my Windows share and I can copy its contents to my Mac. However, I get this error: The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items. Digging deeper it looks like some of my photos are the culprits. But it's not really a permissions issue (File -> Get Info says you can read and write). Some of my photos are not viewable on the Mac (but are viewable on Windows). And there is nothing odd about these photos, they are in the middle of a bunch of other photos I took at same time. Only thing I can think of is these tend to be rotated, but there are plenty of other rotated photos that work fine on the Mac. I will try to attach one here (looks like it's too big 1.8M).
1. Any ideas why these photos give permissions error?
2. Is there any easier way to copy files from Windows to Mac? Every time it runs into one of these files, it stops and I have to figure out where it left off and copy again in smaller bites.

I have a Snow leopard server with a folder shared Via SMB for the 2 PC's we have, all the macs can read and write to this folder OK. About once a week the 2 pc's take 10 mins to start and then cannot connect to the share. Web/email and sharing betwen them still works. I can ping the server from both. I've turned off the smb and restarted it. Also tried restarting the Xserve. This still has no effect. All internal firewalls are off. I've tried guest access.

I have problem with a clients windows laptop. It used to be able to connect to their companies mac server. But since he got back from a trip the laptop doesn't connect anymore. I can ping the server. And when I try to redo the network drive I'm prompted to enter my credentials. But whatever I enter it doesn't work.I already tried to use SERVERNAMEuser.... and also check security policies.

I Have setuped Windows 2008 Server and Windows 2003 Server. On both is full working Active Directory. The clients can conect to it (win).I would lice to have some Mac clients and will setuped Lion server an in Open Directory I have set to connect to another server. Then in Directory Utility I will set the connection to AD Server over Connect in File menu and I have only error mesage "Can't connect to the server - Directory Services may not be installed on the remote server, they may be turned off, or the URL may have been entered incorrectly." and then I try the connection over Services - Active Directory and have error mesage "Authentication server could not be contacted." too.

I have Win7 RC installed on my Gen2 Macbook Air, it's installed natively, with no Mac OS on it at all. I do have bootcamp installed. It runs perfectly. But I'd like to try out the newest Mac OS and would like to dual boot. Is there any way to install Snow Leopard but not lose my Windows install? I've got too much in it to have to redo windows.

I installed Windows 7 32-bit Home edition on a 200gb partition using Bootcamp. I am installing and tweaking the Windows installation and would like to take a snapshot of the system after I have installed all programs and settings.
I used Acronis True Image 2011 on my previous Dell laptop to take a disc image of my installation then used that on subsequent reinstallations using an Acronis boot disc and disc image accessed from a USB hard drive.
How can I reinstall the disc image of an Aronis True Image partition on a Macbook Pro 13" 2010 if part of the drive has OSX? Could I boot from an Acronis boot CD then reinstall the Windows partition on the MBP?

I'm considering adding another Windows Server to our network (Windows 2008 Server); however, I like the fact that OS-X Server has Spotlight Server and a Wiki, but I heard that OS-X Server may have some serious problems and glitches especially with SMB or file-sharing for Windows. I'll be using this server for our graphics production department which is a mix of OS-X and Windows XP workstations, and I'll be adding to it a multi Terabyte rackmount Raid-drive.Can anyone who is in the advanced Server know-how share some advice to weather I should continue with Windows Server or switch to OS-X Server and why so?
