I've been trying to move some files from my Mac HD to Windows partition, but I keep getting the message "The item ___ could not be moved because ___ cannot be modified." Anyone know how to fix this?
View 9 RepliesLast night I installed VMWare Fusion and Windows 7 on my Unibody MBP running SL. When I use Fusion, my computer slows to a crawl. I spent a few hours getting Windows set up and installing software last night.
I would like to try using Boot Camp instead, but do not want to lose all of the software and files that I have installed. Is it possible to set up Boot Camp, and keep the same Windows setup?
I used to have XP installed on another intel mac with bootcamp. This computer was running 10.4 and I was able to open up the Windows partition from the icon on the desktop. From there I could drag in new items, take some out, whatever I wanted to do.
Now, however, on my new 10.5 computer, it seems every single folder is locked and protected in the windows partition I access from OS X.
i'm about to buy my first mac but unfortunately i need to use windows from time to time. So I am currently trying to figure out whether to go with virtulization or bootcamp.
So here is my question: Can OS X see the windows partition and if so can you move files without any problems?
I encounter this error code when I try and move windows files from HDD onto USB or external disk. It has only occurred since Snow leopard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble moving files between a windows computer and a mac. When I save a file on the USB from the [URL]. there is no problem, and when I extract it to my mac there is no problem. BUT when I delete the files from the USB stick, it looks like everything is okay (window of usb is clear, and therefore there should not be anything on it right?) But if I go to the settings for the USB to see if the entiry capacity of the USB is available again, then I find out that this is NOT so.
So basically my problem is that my USB tells me it is occupied, when in fact it is not, could it be something with the cooperation between pc and mac perhaps?
What do you think the reason for this is? and how could I fix it?
The problem is that I now have 3 different USB-sticks which are useless.

As you know, Boot Camp 3.0 allows the window partition to see Mac files and folders without additional software.
I am trying to set up Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center to use on my Xbox 360.
When I tell Windows Media Player to load files from a Mac folder, I can navigate to that folder no problem, but after going through the steps, it fails to load ANY media.
Sometimes after i have been using an external display, some of my windows appear to far to the right on my macbook screen and i cannot grab the top with a mouse to move the window
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a 7.2 gig file i'm trying to move from my Mac to a Windows partition on the drive. The partition is formatted FAT32. I'm getting a error code 0, which I gather means i can't move files that big onto fat32. I'd rather not reformat the partition to something else (stuff on there that took a good while to install).
Any suggestion on how I can get the file over? I've got a lacie hard drive with chunks of space, but its currently formatted for a mac with stuff on it. Even assuming I can partition it without wiping anything, won't i face the same problem?
I'm copying files from my old Windows machine to my new Mac. On my Mac, I can see my Windows share and I can copy its contents to my Mac. However, I get this error: The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items. Digging deeper it looks like some of my photos are the culprits. But it's not really a permissions issue (File -> Get Info says you can read and write). Some of my photos are not viewable on the Mac (but are viewable on Windows). And there is nothing odd about these photos, they are in the middle of a bunch of other photos I took at same time. Only thing I can think of is these tend to be rotated, but there are plenty of other rotated photos that work fine on the Mac. I will try to attach one here (looks like it's too big 1.8M).
1. Any ideas why these photos give permissions error?
2. Is there any easier way to copy files from Windows to Mac? Every time it runs into one of these files, it stops and I have to figure out where it left off and copy again in smaller bites.
I currently have windows XP installed by VMware Fusion on an internal hard drive. Is it possible to move the hard drive to an external firewire hard drive enclosure and still be able to run windows XP from my Mac Pro?
I have set up a Windows XP virtual machine on my MacPro but I want to also get it into Bootcamp so i can try playing some of my PC Games. Is there anyway I can keep the files/settings I have with my Virtual Machine, or do I basically have to start from scratch? and then, if i can do something here, how?

I have no form of direct connection (firewire, ethernet cable etc) and only have my wireless network. I'm new to windows (can't stand it) and don't have a clue where to begin, but I need to get it done. Tried a search but didn't bring up much that I found helpful/could understand. At least that was the plan until I thought about my bootcamp partition with Win7. Whats the best solution for moving the Win7 partition or will I need to rerun boot camp and reinstall Win 7?
I recently swapped the 500Gb WD drive out of my Macbook Pro for a 500Gb Seagate Momentus XT drive. OSX transferred across without any trouble, but despite using WinClone to backup the Bootcamp partition (running Windows 7 64-bit) I haven't been able to restore it successfully. What happens is that it appears to restore, and I get the dual boot screen when I hold down the Alt key, but on selecting Windows I end up getting a screen saying that some component or other is missing. I might choose simply to use Windows 7 under Parallels on this machine if I am faced with a full restore, since that way I can more easily backup the Windows side, and since it's running (MUCH) better since swapping drives. However, IDEALLY I'd prefer to restore my existing partition...

I made an attempt to use Winclone to move Win7 (NTFS, 64-bit) to a new hard drive. After the image was deployed I rebooted. On the new drive,Win7 BSODs - I can't even boot into command line mode as it summarily reboots. The original bootcamp partition boots perfectly, however. I know Winclone was discontinued - assuming other people have used it with Win7 and have not had problems, without having to use Win7's DVD to do a repair install or to - for the moment - delete the original bootcamp partition that I know works, are there any means to fix the boot sector or alleviate this problem? (I think the BCD wants to point to the wrong partition, despite it starting to boot on its own...)

I took delivery of my new 27" imac on Saturday, previously I have always been a windows user. I love the feel of OSX however I am really struggling with getting my itunes to work.The NAS is split into different shares that I had mapped on my windows PCe.g R:Qmultimedia/Music (was on a windows 7 pc)ll my music files are located on this share: Qmultimedia/MusicI have mounted Qmultimedia as a Samba share using a automountmaker script. This connects at startup and the hard drive icon is on my desktop logged in as admin. I opened a brand new install of itunes today and did the following:Went into preferences and changed my library location to volumes/Qmultimedia/Music, then I selected add to library and picked my music folder from the mapped drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt started recently, and I've had this Mac Pro (10.6) for several years. Sometimes, when I move a window, it doesn't redraw the screen *under* it properly, leaving my screen completely messed up. Activating Dashboard (temporarily) fixes it (causes a correct re-draw of everything), and sometimes taking a screengrab fixes it - the display looks correct underneath the area I am selecting for screengrab. A reboot fixes it also, for a while. Sometimes a Firefox window goes completely black, for some seconds, then comes back; haven't noticed that for any other programs' windows. I have 4 monitors connected to this Mac and a bunch of internal drives, but everything was very stable until recently.

When dragging a file into a folder window which is partially off the bottom of the screen, OS X will slide it up so that the whole thing is in view. I can't tell you how many times I've dragged something into the wrong folder because suddenly there's a different folder underneath my cursor. Is there any way to turn this off? It does not suit my workflow at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAt work I work on a mac, but our files are on shared windows network drives. There's one particular drive which causes our mac users problems. It doesn't happen on all folders/files, but on some of them the following happens. I try to move a folder to another location, but then suddenly my mac asks for the system password. I fill that in and press ok, but nothing is moved. The folder is still in the same location. This only happens om certain folders and the funny thing is: when I try it on of the following days, the problem for that folder is gone and I can move the folder to the folder I wanted it to move.
But in the meantime there are other folders which can't be moved. Support - being not into Mac strangely enough - says it's a Mac problem and I should update to 10.7. It happens only to me and my colleagues at the place/office where I work. The windows server is at some place else so everything goes via internet. I keep insisting it's some kind of permissions thingy. Support says it's a Mac thing. What can be the problem and how can I make it clear to them that is isn't a mac thing?
I received an email with a pdf file that I had to complete and send back. I opened the document with Preview, made the changes to complete the form, and saved it ("saved as" because the program wouldn't let me just "save" it. A box popped up saying that changes may affect the original format and that I had to "save as" to get a copy of the file). I opened it again just to make sure, and all the changes were there. I sent it via gmail, and a few hours later the original sender tells me that the form was empty. I checked, and it was empty, even though the name of the file was the one I gave it. I tried again with the same result. Using a PC I had no problems, so I am guessing that the issue is with Preview. Does anyone know what I did wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few RAR files I downloaded from the internet. They are sitting in my Downloads folder. These are some of the latest files I've downloaded, but when I sort by Modified and Created Date, they are scattered throughout the folder. The dates the files have are from before I even downloaded them.
I'm used to Windows where I could sort by Modified or Created date and I could see the latest files I downloaded in descending order from the most recent to the oldest. So, is OSX different, am I misunderstanding something or is there something weird about these RAR files? Furthermore, when I unpack the RAR files, their modified/created date is not today's date.
