Windows On Mac :: Does Time Machine Save Info

Mar 7, 2009

Just bought an 320GB external just for Time Machine, & then installed Windows XP/SP3. Will any future Time Machine backups save all the Windows stuff? For instance, I've got a photo editing program thats only on Windows. Will any of the photo's, & the program itself be backed up?

Hardware :: Info About Time Machine ?

Mar 10, 2009

I would appreciate it if someone could tell me a little bit about Time Capsule.

I have a Dell PC, a 20" iMac, 2 Dell Laptops (my wife's), a (Unibody) MacBook and two iPhones. Right now I'm using a Belkin N+ Router. I was considering a HP Home server.

I'm wondering if Time Capsule would be a better router for me and generally if it will be a better alternative for me than what I have. I'm about to move from a one-story to a two-story house.

How would I access say the pictures from the old machine once I start using the new one, ( the old machine itself will be sold) so I'll just have the backed up info do I need to do some other type of "save" before I sell the old machine?

I'm sure incremental backups wont be saved on both. For example if I make two changes to a file at work and then go home. I wouldnt be able to go back to those two changes, but it would have the original from a older backup right?

OS X Mavericks :: Time Machine Failed To Save Certain Data To External Hard Disk

Jun 26, 2014

What can be done if Time Machine failed to save certain data to external hard disk, but I do have the old hard drive? I have a new IMac 10.9.2. The old IMac was hit by lightning/surge. Restored data from external LaCie disk but some information is missing. Apparently Time Machine did not save it to the external disk, or we just can't locate it. We do haves the old hard disk and will put it in a box to be able to access it.

Is partitioning the answer?

OS X :: Using Time Machine To Transfer Info To New IMac/iLife 08 To ILife 09?

Mar 10, 2009

So I already placed my order for my new iMAC. I have a MacBook (2006) with iLife 08.

My question is: When I get to transfer my MacBook info into my new iMAC, will i encounter any problems with my iLife files being that I have iLife 08, and the new iMac's come with iLife 09? The Time Machine transfer won't bring the new iMac software back to 08 will it?

Just want to be sure before I set this up.

Ok so I was thinking. I know I can use an external hard drive to back up my mac with time machine. What I am not sure about, and I know it isn't a feature offered in Windows Home Server, but if I am not mistaken I can use my MacBook to access Windows Home Server to share my media right? Since it is through my network and all would I be able to just designate Windows Home Server as the location to store my Time Machine data? Incase it crashes I could just rebuild my MacBook through my network couldn't I?

She turned her Mac on this morning and said that windows had completely disappeared! She took it to her local computer store, not an apple store, and was told that because time machine had been turned on and off that windows and the hard drive associated with it had all been wiped!!

2) Can I access the Windows content from my MBP?

3) Can I pull the itunes library off and transfer it to my MBP?

Windows On Mac :: Restoring Time Machine Backup From External HDD?

Nov 14, 2009

Okay I've had it with VMware Fusion 3, tried Parallels. The graphics capabilities are poor for my standard of work (we use 3DS Max and Maya for intensive modelling during studies). I know my graphics card is quite outdated (ATI X1600) but a lot of the graphics-intensive apps on the Mac side run very smooth.

So I'm going down the Boot Camp route since graphics-wise, it'll use the actual X1600 instead of some virtual one. It's telling me that I need to reformat into Mac OS Journaled or something, and some basic research tells me the only way to achieve this is a fresh install.

My question is, if I perform a Time machine backup onto my external drive, will it restore the applications/settings/files completely how they were, after I reinstall OS X?

Can I do this wirelessly, even though I do not have Airport Extreme or the Apple external harddrive (I will most likely buy a Western Digital or some other big-name brand).

Also, my family PC is running Windows XP. Is a way I can wirelessly back up that computer as well to this external harddrive, or will I need to plug that in to the PC.

OS X :: Time Machine Backup / Get My Files Back With Windows?

My macbook pro was stolen a few days ago. I plan on getting a replacement in the near future, but I don't think the current macbook pros are worth it at their prices... I don't know when an update is coming (like everyone else). I may have jumped the gun and bought a windows laptop if all my files weren't saved via time machine.

Is there anyway to get my stuff off time machine and onto windows short of buying a second mac and restoring to and then transfering off to windows laptop?

I want to make sure I'm doing this properly. I recently acquired a Macbook Pro, along with legit copy of Win Vista. So here's what I did:1. Reinstall Mac OS X from scratch, then get ALL the software updates. Perfectly clean! Then installed the additional applications from the 2nd disk (Q1: Is that second disk what is called Leopard?)2. Backed up my Mac with Time Machine to my external Seagate drive.3. Used Bootcamp to create a partition, then install Windows Vista Home Basic edition on to it, then installed the Macbook Pro drivers, then got ALL the microsoft updates (which took forever).

Hardware :: How To Setup Time Machine To Backup Remote Windows Drive

Dec 30, 2009

I just got my new iMac 21.5, works great. I'm a Mac newbie. I have a remote Windows machine I'd like to use as a network drive. I also have a NAS (Netgear SC101T) which I basically don't use anymore, thus I'll use the PC. I have two wireless routers so that function is of no value to me. So IMHO I don't need a Time Capsule.

I'd like to configure Time Machine to use the Windows networked drive as the "Time Capsule". Is this possible? If so, how do I do that? And how does that impact the Restore functionality if I'm not using the $300+ Time Capsule? Will it still restore a dead machine if it comes down to it?
