I'm running leopard, and have found it increasingly annoying that there is now no scrub bar at the bottom of the quicktime preview in finder. Does anybody know how i could revert back to this setting rather than using the new 'play button in the middle of the screen' way?

Whats up. I have a picture which someone has edited to make funny. The edited picture shows up in Preview the application with a text box saying something. But in Finder's preview I see the raw picture. Whats going on there and how do i see the full picture the way Finder's Preview sees it.

Try to open iChat window, version 4.0.8. in Time Machine. The TM window changes to a finder window. Is this normal for an application like TM? Trying to get back an open chat. not recorded.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I open preview the window never appears. The Preview menu is present. The four-finger swipe down will show me all the files I have opened previously. But when I select one, nothing happens. Every now and again, I can get a document to open but generally I give up. This has been going on for a while. I've tried menu file>open , option-click - file open with in finder, I've tried pdf documents etc. The other thing that has been bugging me is the inability to close files. When I do actually get a preview window to display, the side bar includes a variety of files I have opened previously. Actually, I think it has kept every last file I have ever opened in preview....disconcerting actually.

I have a little problem with ichat which i suspect is something relatively simple however i still can't get it sorted out. A friend of mine just purchased a macbook (with OS X 10.5 and I have 10.4.11) and we have been video ichatting without any problems. I picked up a macbook (10.5) for my gf and got ichat set up and running with out any problems, tested the video chat and all was good. Now all of a sudden when i try to video chat with either of them i can only see my preview window and can't see them. They however don't have any problems and can see me and their preview window. They have video chatted with each other with no problems so it only seems to be me. Is there any weird compatibility issues with ichat 3.1.9 and ichat 4? Like I said, initially there was no problems with my friend and I but now that I picked up the macbook for the gf things are all out of sorts.

I have pdf files I need to save, and the "save as" window drops down directly over the top of the page. Many times the pdf is scanned documents with titles, authors, and publication dates and journal names at the top of the first page. Therefore it is difficult (even though the drop down is opaque) to transcribe the article name into the save file as window, because that information is at the top of the page. I cannot scroll down in the document to have the information visible as it is typically page 1, and I cannot move the save as window over so I can see the file name I want to enter. I have to write the title down on a piece of paper then click save as then type the words in from the paper, even though the title I want to use is under the drop down.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI mostly use Preview.app (on Lion 10.7.3) to read and annotate relatively large pdf documents (articles, reports, etc.). While working on a given project I tend to have many pdf files open at the same time. I personally would like to have all of the pdfs I use open in a single window, so I have Preview set to "Open all files in one window" (Preferences > General). This setup initially worked very well since it allows me view all of my open documents in the sidebar (similar to tabs in a browser window). The problem is that when I switch from one pdf to another, the position of the pdfs (i.e., the page I was on when I switched to another pdf) is not preserved. This seemingly defeats the purpose of having this functionality in Preview,is this the intended behavior of this setting, or is this a bug? In either case, is anyone aware of a fix for this? I just want the documents I'm reading to preserve their positions when switching between them when opened in a single window.

This button allowed (in Snow Leopard and even in Tiger) to see the final page full size, or even to save as a PDF file. This functionality is sadly missing on my computer since I have upgraded to LION, making me regret the move. Is there some pref somewhere that I should adjust, or just plainly forget about it. ? When I print, the dialog window does NOT show the Preview button anymore.
I am on a MacBook Pro 17".

I recently changed .mp3s to open with quicktime in finder and now I cannot preview any of my songs in finder, even after reverting the mp3 extension back to iTunes.

It may be available from the quicktime components page. Make sure your internet connection is active, then click the continue button to check for the software."The problem is is that I am not trying to use quicktime and nor is it running currently AND when the cursor is over the window it just spins the color pin wheel. This window will not go away. I cannot drag it, close it or press continue on it. I have cleared all cookies, cache and reset safari and nothing works. I restart my computer and it is gone for maybe a few minutes and then it reappears .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently working with very large files(mostly HD video. 3GB and more). When selecting a file, the finder try's to preview it and freezes. This means that every time I select a file, I have to wait several minutes until the file is cashed and I can continu working.
Can I prevent the finder from previewing large files?
When I view music files from my iTunes library in the finder, the artwork is no longer previewed in the icon and in quickview. This morning with the last version of iTunes everything was OK. Has anyone else got the same problem? OS X 10.6.4.

However I don't like the preview Finder chose for my video, it simply chose a random frame from my video and made that the preview of the file. I have a custom poster I made for the video I would like to make the preview of the file. I've look at other websites and they all mistook "preview" for icons. I am not talking about the icon of the file, I am talking about the actual preview of the file. If you open the Info pane of an image or a video file, there will be a tab under "Open With" named "Preview" and shows the preview thumbnail for the file. Can anyone tell me how I can manually change the preview of a file? I thought about importing the video into iTunes, change the cover art and take it out again, however because the file is encoded with Apple ProRes 4444 iTunes won't accept it and even if it did it would have been converted to other format, which is something I am trying to avoid and I would like to keep it ProRes 4444.

Since a few months, I just can see mp3 files as an icon with the itunes symbol in it. Before, there was previews from the album cover and every time you click on it, the music was played in preview mode directly from the finder. Just a few minutes ago, I updated the version of my itunes to the currently newest one. That didn't give me a solution indeed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.6.2 on my Rev A 13" MBP and have noticed an oddity in Finder over the last couple of months (I'm not sure when it started). If I have Finder open in Column View, I used to be able to choose a jpg and it would show a small preview in the final column of Finder.
Now, it shows the word Preview with the triangle to open and close the preview, along with the file information, but no actual preview. It's the same in Get Info on the file in question. I've tried switching Icon Preview on and off in View Options, I've tried moving the Finder plist file to the desktop and restarting the machine.
A couple OS's ago I remember if you opened a finder window on your desktop and if the column view was open it would attempt to create a preview, making your system completely useless until that preview was generated. It seems that this has been mostly addressed in Leopard, but still exists somewhat. But I've now discovered sadly another place where it exists and it has just cost me an hour of uploading time. getting info on idisk. I was uploading a large photoshop file on my idisk, 2GB, and I had 2 minutes left.
I accidentally did command I on a file on my idisk directory thinking it was my local directory. The file I got info on was 1.4GB.. it's now stuck trying to generate a preview image for that damn photoshop file and my poor 2GB upload that was 2 minutes away has apparently decided it was less important to finish uploading and to generate this damn preview! Which probably entails downloading the whole thing first.
I love the new stacks in snow leopard but sometimes I find myself wanting to space bar to preview etc and I can't so I want to quickly launch the finder into that folder. Is there a way? ie a hotkey and a click etc.
I was playing with the maximize button on a Finder window a few days ago and toggling it would yield a different size every time (guess I was amused by that). So it go into a state where the resize corner is out of reach always now. Clicking on the maximize button does not change the size at all and just remains there. I want to be able to resize Finder again. How do I do it? For reference, attached is the screenshot of my desktop with Finder window, so you can see what I mean. I am unable to find a way to get it to a stage where the full window can be shown and I can resize it.
