May 29, 2012I have a Mac Mini running 10.6.8.
I haven't used the DVD drive very much at all since I've had it (about 3 years), but was watching some DVDs yesterday. The drive worked fine. Today, when I tried to insert another DVD, I physically can't do it - it only goes in halfway and the drive won't suck it in. There is nothing stuck in the drive, no other disc. There is nothing wrong with the disc I am trying to insert. It doesn't work for any disc any more.
I have tried many different suggested restart fixes, holding down the eject button while starting, resetting PRAM, etc etc. this DVD drive has physically failed after I've hardly ever used it... Is there anything I can do short of taking it in for repair? It's not under warranty any more.

May 29, 2012Everytime I insert a music cd, nothing happens. I checked the settings to cds & dvds, and music cd's are set to "ignore" when inserted. However, everytime I try to click "open with itunes" it stays on ignore. I'm not sure what to do, or what it's happening.

Aug 29, 2009On the old version of quicktime there was a option in the preferences to start the video playing straight away
In this new version on snow leopard, when you double click a video, quicktime loads it but you still need to press play.
I can't see a option anywhere to make it play vids straight away.

I get through the disc verification fine but then during actual install always seems to stall around 1hr 56 mins to go.. now when this seems to happen is when my the hdmi signal to my samsung lcd switches off, the installation stalls well when i click the mouse for the connection to become live again, the process has always crashed...

Feb 7, 2009so i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

Jan 12, 2011I had a Mac Mini sitting around the house collecting dust, so I thought I'd boot it up to have a small computer in my room. When I booted it up it started with the standard "bung" sound, but then it showed a blank grey screen. After a minute or so the screen turned to black, then came back with the same grey screen, but with a blue folder in the middle flashing a question mark, then the old Mac two faces logo, and continued to switch indefinitely.
Both said that it was unable to open.
I then tried to eject the disc so I could try my other install discs MacBook Pro, but the drive would not eject, and I had to open the Mini up to get the disc physically out of the disc tray. When I tried to do the install with my other install disc it did virtually the same thing with identical error messages. The only way I could get it to do anything different was to hold option on reboot, and the screen would go blue with the old school clock spinning as the cursor, a button that had a arrow pointing to the right (like "next") and a button with an arrow that looked like a "refresh." "Next" didn't work even after multiple "refresh"es, even though clicking refresh definitely started whatever process it was doing over again.

Feb 4, 2012Getting a very nasty message when trying to reinstall OS on my Mac mini. During disc two it comes up with the message to turn it off by holding down the power. I have also tried to disconnect the power hold it for 5 seconds and reset the SMC. Where do I go from here. Do I need to by a new one?Thought initially it was my hard drive but I changed it and still the same message comes. Is it a kernel problem. A little hard to any "reset" or anything as I don't have any system running on it, or is it?

Aug 11, 2009How many of you would like to see a HDMI Port? Why the miniDisplay port? Why not remove ethernet jack and miniDisplay port and replace it with a HDMI port. That way one HDMI cable feeds digital video AND audio. Am I the only one thinking of this?

It saw it for a little, and I went through the whole Leopard installation and then it said at the very end that it couldn't complete the installation and now when I try it can't see the drive at all. I tried reseating it - how come no one's talking about how there are four more pins on the seagate than there are ports on the mini.

Jan 8, 2010I went to install Windows XP via bootcamp as I no longer have a windows XP machine, but still need windows XP for a few things work related. The install failed, the CD I used was kinda scratched and it missed a few of the files during installation so I skipped them (usually not an issue as they were driver files and such). Well the installed failed and cannot complete. Now I'm stuck in a vicious loop where it wants to try and complete the install every time it boots. I'm using a non-apple keyboard, when I try to hold down what would be the equivalent of command+option+O+F it does nothing and either starts the windows installation all over or tries to continue and finish the current install. No matter what, no luck getting the windows disk to eject.

Jun 2, 2010My Mac Mini does not automatically go to sleep. Only after a safe boot in the login window it works. I already tried to reset PRAM and NVRAM and repaired access rights. After deleting my printers at least a manual sleep takes only 2 seconds instead of ~30.

May 28, 2012I know I have seen some of these posts outside the apple support forums, but I am having an increasing problem playing DVDs. Older movies seem to have less problem, but when I get a movie from Netflix they often won't be recognized by my 2010 Mac Mini. The drive has had some problems ejecting discs in the past, and this inability to recognize the disc and then ejecting it is getting worse. Since it is not 100% of the time, the genius bar can't diagnoze it.
I only have 1 TV in the house, and want to be able to reliably use my Mac Mini to watch a DVD when the wife or kids are using the TV.

Under Mac OS X, I could plug and play with the Mini DVI port and my TV, and everything ran smoothly. Under windows, however, the TV is not even recognized. I have updated the graphics driver, rebooted, and of course googled for a while. I installed all the drivers when I first used bootcamp, and have been keeping up to date with it.
OS X :: Mac Mini Refusing To Play Audio Now?
Aug 19, 2010I was using my Mac mini last night and it played audio fine. (I have it hooked up to my HDTV in the living room.) However, this morning I went to watch a standup comedian and the audio wouldn't play. I rebooted. Removed the audio cord and plugged it back in. Took the video cord and plugged it back in.

Video: mini-DVI -> DVI -> HDMI
Nothing will play. There's no external speakers or anything, it's playing through the TV's built in speakers. Normal satellite TV will play audio as well.
