I just got myself an mac mini and i really love it. Mostly use it for Plex as an media center, but here is the problem.After 1 hour inactivity it's set to go to sleep. and when i wake it up it work fine for about 10 seconds then it goes back to sleep, and i have to wake it up again for it to work.
View 4 RepliesI had this problem since I used the power schedule to shut down my mac a day after I went on vacation. Now every morning I see the macpro awaken from sleep mode. The mouse is in it's stand so it can't be that. I disabled everything in power settings.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Power Mac G5 does not go to sleep automatically. I had it set to go to sleep after 5 minutes of no activity. At least 5 minutes past but the computer failed to go into sleep mode. What could be preventing from going to sleep after the specified time?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iMac G5 (OSX 10.4) starts up as normal, runs for about 5 minutes and then automatically goes to sleep. It will wake up if prompted, but every time it goes back to sleep in seconds. If left in sleep mode for a few minutes it will wake up again for 1 � 5 minutes before once again automatically returning to sleep.
It is definitely not due to hot corners. I changed the power saver settings several times, restarted and also reset the SMU but with no luck. I�ve also ran an apple hardware test which got the fallowing error code: �2FAN/4/8: CPU Fan�

I have my set Mac Pro to sleep after 1 hour of "inactivity" and not wake for ethernet administration access.My question is: What is "inactivity"? It seems that my computer never sleeps fully. I have iStat Menus and Dropbox installed. Will the computer sleep no matter what if I don't touch the keyboard or mouse or unplug/plug stuff in/out? Or will certain apps keep it from sleeping? I am worried that something is preventing it from sleeping.

I am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.

Lately I'm starting to notice that if I leave my Macbook just sitting there for awhile, when I return to it, it didn't go to sleep, but it rather logged me out, leaving me at the login screen. I then have to re log in and re-open everything I was working on.

I've only had MBPs in the recent years and appreciate their low impact on my electricity bill very much - letting them sleep unplugged does make a difference. Now I'm contemplating a Mac Mini and while I know its power consumption is as low as with the notebooks (if not lower without display), I'm wondering if the Mini needs the current in sleep mode. I assume it does, but I'd rather know than guess.

I purchased a 2009 Mac Mini in January this and I am loving it. Ever since I got it the machine does not go to sleep even with settings set and every program closed. The only way I can get it to go to sleep is by hitting the apple button and sleep. Sometimes I am not always here and would like it to go to sleep automatically.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a C2D iMac about 3 years old, with 10.6 and all the updates. I have it set to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. Sometimes at night I will use it to listen to a podcast or watch a TV show. When I do this, it never goes to sleep. It's always still on when I wake up. The display will sleep, but not the computer. I can put the computer to sleep myself through the Apple menu, but it never sleeps due to inactivity.
I'm worried that having the computer on 8 hours a night due to this problem will shorten its lifespan. Does anyone have an idea of what may be causing it? Does it have something to do with webpages being open? I always have Safari open. It's easier to leave pages open than it is to go through dialog boxes and menus to create and delete bookmarks all the time.
My Mac Mini does not automatically go to sleep. Only after a safe boot in the login window it works. I already tried to reset PRAM and NVRAM and repaired access rights. After deleting my printers at least a manual sleep takes only 2 seconds instead of ~30.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo this past week when my mini hasn't stayed in sleep mode, it shuts itself down about a minute later after being in sleep mode. I haven't changed any of my settings in a year and a half, normally it would stay in sleep mode until i come back to it and logged on again. When it does shut down i just cannot power back on i have to unplug the adapter then replug it in for it to start up again. I've searched google and on here for possible ideas. I wouldn't think it to be overheating since I'm not running any applications when i put it in sleep. It might be the power supply since i have to do that process to get it to work again. Let me know what could be causing this or ways to troubleshoot this problem.

I have a late-2011 mac mini that quit entering sleep mode a few days ago. It won't sleep using the Energy Saver Preference Pane, either with or without the assistance of Please Sleep. It won't sleep using any keyboard command or selecting Sleep from the Apple menu. I've tried turning Bluetooth off, resetting the SMC, and resetting the PRAM all without effect. (Before this, I also tried repairing permissions and running Disk Warrior.)

I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
Just got it today. When I sleep it, a quiet but audible noise kicks off that increases and decreases in intensity with the light on the front of the unit gets brighter and dimmer (so sort of sinusoidal). I've tried restarting it and resetting the SMC. The unit got upgraded to 4Gb ram and a 7200 320gb hard drive today. But I don't believe it's the hard drive - that makes a very low key monotonous whine that stops when I sleep the unit.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am still having this waking up issue with my mba 13. When it sleeps for more than 1/2 - 1 hour. It doesn't seem to wake up. It normally wakes up asking my password on top of the screen. But sometimes it reboots. Today something weird happened..the welcome screen came up asking my password.
I entered it and I seen the blue desktop screen, than back to the password box. I entered my password 3-4 times.. it did the same thing. I pressed and hold the power button. Turned it off then back on. Again my outlook file under windows xp in parallels is corrupt.
So my MBP 13" 2.26ghz worked up until the firmware update was installed, and then everything froze up and it took about 15 minutes to boot up, 5 minutes to shut down. So i called apple, and after a 1 hour phone call, they told me that i could get it replaced. I live an hours drive from the nearest apple store, and will have to drive up there to get it replaced, do you think i could ask for some kind of compensation for my problems, and having to drive 4 hours (2 to buy it the first time, 2 more to get it replace) to take care of the problem.
Do you think I could ask for the 2.53ghz model, or an apple/itunes gift card. or Should i even ask for anything, i mean i paid 1200 for this computer, and after 3 hours of owning it is not useable, and now i have to spend all this time trying to get it replaced.

I have a late 2008 15" MBP, and I often leave it playing videos while I go to sleep. Lately, it's stopped sleeping the display and/or going to sleep (depending on whether something's downloading in the background) after the video is finished, which is quite annoying as the screensaver's glare normally wakes me up in the middle of the night (and it's probably not too good for the display either).
Before a few weeks ago, it would quite happily sleep the display a few minutes after the video (in Front Row or otherwise) finished playing, but it's now consistently ignoring the sleep and display sleep settings (which are all correct). I even set the display sleep timer to 1 minute, waited without anything happening in the background, but nothing happens.
Anyone have any idea how to get the timers to work again?
i have a little problem with the sleep light... i don't know when this started, but i notice today, that when i put my macbook pro to sleep, the light just stays on and not "pulsing" like it used to do... is that normal?
