I have trying to get my laptop hooked up to my tv, using the apple mini displayport to DVI -> belkin DVI to HDMI cable setup (as recommended by the dude int eh apple store - which i knew and planned on doing anyway :P).
anyway, when i first plugged it in to the tv in my hotel room it worked, 1080p, then stopped .. then randomly worked again after a few ties. Once I got home i hooked it up to my sharp aquos 42 and worked fine, then after it was unplugged and tried to get it working again, it basically just.. wouldn't - i don't get a picture/signal on the tv, no options in the display cp , nor does the screen go blue when it normally finds a monitor/tv. i've tried plugging it in both ends, restarting, turning tv off/on, everything to no avail. I know the dvi-hdmi cable works, used it from a windows desktop to make sure. the mini displayport to DVI works for DVI 100% of the time into one of my monitors.
as mentioned it had worked at first on and off..., and now i cant get it working on my 1080p tv, nor the 720p one that's in my room, neither of them get a picture/signal; no options in display control panel either, or the quick display flash to blue. Furthermore, sometimes when unplugging the dvi cable from the tv i get the laptop screen flash, as when it picks the device up initially.
I never got my emailed invoice from apple when I bought the cables in in SF during macworld so I cant just return it to apple I'm sure.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated, please help this is making me go crazy... worked and now nothing no matter what i try. Oh, also tried on another, new user to see if it was a weird setting that got saved.
I have an old Laserjet IIIp I'm trying to use with a new Mac mini. Before realizing that tiger had gimp-print bundled with it I installed it separately, so maybe that's the problem. Anyway, I use the printer setup utility, and click add, and it shows me a USB printer (without a name, that's odd.) I choose HP and then "Laserjet III Series," and whether I choose the 4.x driver or the 5.x driver, clicking add does nothing. No dialog, no spinning of the disk or the printer, just nothing.I know the driver supports this printer, and I know the cable in question (a Belkin USB->Parallel cable) works with gimp-print and even with this printer. Rebooting the Mac doesn't help, even if the printer is on and connected during the reboot.
I have a 500GB g-drive that I use with my macbook Pro(running Leopard O/S, current version). Because I just about maxed out the hard drive on the mac, most of my Aperture photo libraries reside on the g-drive, in a volume labeled "Aperture Photos." Something very weird happened a couple days ago that really spooked me. The G drive is configured in 4 volumes, and upon ejecting one of the volumes from the Finder window (by dragging it to the Trash which normally doubles as an Eject mechanism) my volume disappeared without the usual prompt that says something like: do you want to eject all So here I am, looking at my Finder screen, and 3 out of 4 of the G drive volumes remain listed in my Devices list, but the one with the photos on it is gone. With fear in my belly, I looked in the trash, and it looks like the contents of the entire volume ended up in there!!! So panic mode set it what do I do?!? How do I restore it? Whats weird is that the missing volume and its icon shows up on the desktop, but not in Finder, making it all but useless.
I accidentally removed my HD from under the Devices folder in Finder when I was trying to drag and drop songs into iTunes. I assume there must be an easy way to get it to show up there again, I just am not sure what that is. It got dragged into whatever folder I was in in Finder and just kinda poof it was gone...
I use a Western Digital Passport as my external drive.  When I link the USB I get no icon on my desktop and the device is not recognised unless I activate the WD Smartware to unlock it.  That's not a lot of use when I want to download some files from a computer (like my wifes's) (also an iMac) which doesn't have the Smartware installed. why my desktop won't register the drive and why my wife's computer won't recognise the thing at all?
I just got an iMac. For the first few hours it was turned on, my MBP showed up in the iMac's Finder, and vice versa. However now, for the past two days, neither Mac has shown up in the others Finder. Connecting to afp://[their ip address] lets me see the public folders, but I still can't use the shared iTunes libraries, or share screens.
The same thing happened with the MBP and other Windows/Linux devices on the network, as well as my jailbroken iPod with Netatalk installed, but I just chalked that up to the klugey nature of mixed networking. Guess that wasn't the problem.
Is it possible (probably with a defaults write command) to have Mac OS 10.6 show a list of users on wake from sleep instead of a username and password window? I would like for users to be encouraged to use a guest account when the computer wakes up.
How can you show a list of contacts (or buddies if you're using another IM/Chat like Yahoo) that is docked in, connected to, separate column or sub-window of the main Chat window...
I looked through all the Menu bar items and preferences and didn't see a single thing. If I activate my Yahoo chat profile/user a floating window pops up, but I can't find any info regarding combining the 2 windows / showing all info in 1 window.

I have updated iPhoto recently through Mac App Store, but then I had to reinstall it. I've deleted iPhoto from my computer and now it doesn't show up in Purchases list. When I search for it manually, it says Accept, I click on that and then get an error message stating that it's already in Purchases list, but it isn't there.
I've restarted my MacBook Pro several times but iPhoto just doesn't show up in Purchases list.
I am currently running iChat 1.0.1 and if I add a new person in iChat, they don't show up on the buddy list. Their address card shows up in Address Book and when I am messaged by the person it shows their name given when I first entered them in, but the buddy list does not show them as being online.
I have a Japanese font that I was using in Pages on my iMac (uses Mac OS X v10.6.8). I installed it onto my new MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7).† But when using Microsoft Word, the font won't work.† It's listed in the Latin Text Font list, but it doesn't show up in the Asian Text Font list. Is there a way to add the font so it'll be available in the Asian Text Font list?

I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is usually me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me. Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?
I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out.†I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?
I currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!
I have an old SCSI dedicated slide and negative scanner. It produced scans so much superior to the two newer scanners I've tried, so I'd love to put it back into use. The available SCSI-USB adaptors are expensive, and the software for the device isn't available to work with Tiger or Leopard OS anyhow. I am thinking of looking for an ancient Mac to use the scanner with, or maybe even an old PC. Any feedback on what a smart way to bring my old SCSI Polaroid Sprintscan 3500 scanner back to life?
So my Macbook is coming in the mail and I'd like to plan my wireless setup. I don't even have the AirPort yet but I like to think ahead. So I'll have my Macbook, a printer, my speaker system, and my Xbox 360 and I'd like to have them all working wirelessly. How would I go about setting this up? Can I use a router with the AirPort in case I need extra hard-wired ethernets (modem-router-AirPort)? Which parts are directly connected to the AirPort and which to the Macbook? Knowing where the wiring must go is crucial in the placement of furniture and equipment.
All of a sudden my mini's sound output stopped working and now doesn't recognize any output devices. worked earlier today not now, didn't add anything. system pref - sound - output = "no output devices found
I am wondering what exactly can be fed in and out of the mini displayport on the new iMac, and just as importantly, what extra gear is needed. I have read that things like PS3s in principle can be fed into the iMac, but they need some adapter thing that is pretty expensive, is that still the case, and is it the case for anything that you feed in, other than other apple devices like MacBooks and such?
I have multiple displays connected via the HDMI port and one to the mini port as well and a theater sound system attached to the headphone jack.  How do you turn on sound output to both HDMI and headphone jack.  If the headphone jack is plugged in, it always defaults to that device.  I am unable to hear the audio at the remote displays without removing the headphone jack.
I just got a Mac Mini no too long ago and while moving to my new apartment, my wireless router had a tragic accident and is no longer with me. So I thought "hey, I will just use my Mac Mini to broadcast a wifi signal so my other devices can connect to it." So I spent the morning setting up the internet sharing in the Mac Mini system preferences. Got my Dell Studio 1555 to connect with no issues. But my roommates acer notebook won't pick up the wifi signal at all. Checked it on both of our smart phones (both are android models), my nook, and even my ipod touch. It is only showing up on the dell for some reason. I was wondering if anyone else has encoutered this issue before Mac mini is currently set up with 128bit wep with a 13 character password.
I would like to set-up a mac mini as the download point for IOS devices (instead of have 30 devices access the Internet for the same download, just have the Mac mini access the Internet for the download(s) and the devices would, in turn, download the updates from the local Mac.
I have a 13" MacBook Pro with a Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard. I would like to buy another Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard for my office. What I need to know is, can I have both pairs setup on my Mac so that when I go from home to the office they will work without having to reconfigure the peripherals?
