Is it possible (probably with a defaults write command) to have Mac OS 10.6 show a list of users on wake from sleep instead of a username and password window? I would like for users to be encouraged to use a guest account when the computer wakes up.
View 3 RepliesWhen I double click on my HD and click Users the only user listed is "shared". My Home User is not there. All my data is accessible but I am concerned that it may get hidden. When I back up to my external HD it transfers all of my data but again I cant see me as a user. Could be coincidental but my logic board was replaced last week and i think it happened then.

I want to generate a list of users and their GUID's and I think dscl is the right tool. I don't have great bash skills nor can I get dscl to jump through hoops. I can get individual GUID's for a user using # dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/ -read /Search/Users/username but waht I would like to do is generate a list of all the users and their GUIDS ?how I can do that?Â

My wife's user icon doesn't show up as a user option at the start up screen. Only mine and the guest user shows up. This frustrates her to no end. What do I need to do to have both her and my icon to show up?

i have had my macbook go to sleep an not fully wake up, the keyboard, cd drive wake an the screen would just turn the LED on, it brights up but does not show anything.i do NOT think its hardware, i believe the os is just not turining on the screen or speakers. it has done this 2 times an had to hardboot. before i hardboot it, i let it sit for a few minutes to see if it would wake up fully , an tried to close the lid again. also is there a short cut to restart or put it back to sleep so i dont have to hard boot. i dont expect to have this happen again , but if it does a key would be nice

When I restart my computer, not all of the users are shown in the Login Window. Only the Master account is shown. When I LOGOUT only then are all of the users shown. How do I get all of the users shown in the LOGIN window when the computer is restarted?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got an iMac. For the first few hours it was turned on, my MBP showed up in the iMac's Finder, and vice versa. However now, for the past two days, neither Mac has shown up in the others Finder. Connecting to afp://[their ip address] lets me see the public folders, but I still can't use the shared iTunes libraries, or share screens.
The same thing happened with the MBP and other Windows/Linux devices on the network, as well as my jailbroken iPod with Netatalk installed, but I just chalked that up to the klugey nature of mixed networking. Guess that wasn't the problem.
How can you show a list of contacts (or buddies if you're using another IM/Chat like Yahoo) that is docked in, connected to, separate column or sub-window of the main Chat window...
I looked through all the Menu bar items and preferences and didn't see a single thing.If I activate my Yahoo chat profile/user a floating window pops up, but I can't find any info regarding combining the 2 windows / showing all info in 1 window.

I have updated iPhoto recently through Mac App Store, but then I had to reinstall it. I've deleted iPhoto from my computer and now it doesn't show up in Purchases list. When I search for it manually, it says Accept, I click on that and then get an error message stating that it's already in Purchases list, but it isn't there.Â
I've restarted my MacBook Pro several times but iPhoto just doesn't show up in Purchases list.

I am currently running iChat 1.0.1 and if I add a new person in iChat, they don't show up on the buddy list. Their address card shows up in Address Book and when I am messaged by the person it shows their name given when I first entered them in, but the buddy list does not show them as being online.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Japanese font that I was using in Pages on my iMac (uses Mac OS X v10.6.8). I installed it onto my new MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7). But when using Microsoft Word, the font won't work. It's listed in the Latin Text Font list, but it doesn't show up in the Asian Text Font list. Is there a way to add the font so it'll be available in the Asian Text Font list?

I've recently migrated to Lion and am finding the new layout of Mail frustrating as it shows my mail by the recipient rather than the sender. As the recipient is usually me, I have what appears to be a inbox of emails to myself but I have to open each email (or preview it) to reveal who actually sent it to me. Is there a way to have the sender (From field) showing in the list rather than the To field?
I need to have them sorted by Date so that the most recent messages are at the top. But when I choose View > Message Attributes the option to select "From" is already ticked but it is also greyed out. I have temporarily fixed this by using the classic view but I would really like to know how to do this in the new view?
The "Company" name doesn't show up when I print a list from Contacts in Mavericks.

Today when we started trying to add users to our server (we use it only for afp access at this time), we noticed that new users belonging to a group "storage" were unable to login from client machines via afp (clients both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8). Â
When we tried editing the users accounts to change which groups they belonged to, it would appear in workgroup (and server preferences) that the changes would take but there was still no access.Â
As a test case, we modified an existing user who had no issues logging in to belong to a diffenent group and have different sharepoint access. The changes looked good in workgroup and server prefs, but when the user logged in, he was only able to acces his old sharepoint and not the new one (and since his permissions to the old were removed, he shouldn't have access to that sharepoint).Â
Also, for some reason users cannot be deleted within workgroup manager any more. The login used was the diradmin account.

I am currently am MBA student and must create projects using power point/ keynote, very often. Many of the power points/ keynotes created by students are informative but lack the ability to hold an audience’s attention (boring). Since I have this wonderful Macbook pro, I would like to create a dynamic keynote presentation which would include clips of audio and video files (I already know about converting keynote to power point). The only problem is, the videos I want to use in the keynote presentation are not able to be manipulated in iMovie (due to their format), and if they where able to be manipulated in iMovie, I’m not sure that PC users would be able to properly view them.
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?  If this is possible, can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files (including embedded audio) so that it can be viewed by both Lion and PC users? Preferably one that does not need access to the internet in order to convert the files ( I’m on the go allot and use an air card for internet access), but I will take it if this is the best option. If the app store does not have this type of application, is there a place that I can download a safe one?Â

I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?

I was reviewing audio books on my wish list and the list just became empty. I have stopped and restarted iTunes and I have manually re-logged into my apple account but the list keeps coming up empty. I have tried both the shortcut on the top right and from the drop down on the top left but nothing. Is this a temporary issue with Apple..I'm on a Mac running OS10.9.4 and iTunes 11.3.1Â

Before when I used to view pictures they show up in (from what I can remember) Picture...im not sure what else is missing but after a while they started showing up in colorsync which i didnt like then i deleted it and the pictures started showing up in quicktime. View 4 Replies View RelatedMessages keeps switching the conversation view from "Show Names and Pictures" to just "Show Pictures". This is in the menu under: View > Messages > Show Names and Pictures. I have to change it multiple times a day, including every time I open the app from a closed state.
This is very confusing in group iMessage conversations where all the iMessages are coming from the same grey silhouette icon. The issue is only happening on my Mac mini. It's not happening on my MacBook Air. Both are running Mavericks 10.9.3...So I keep changing the setting here, but it somehow just switches back to Show Pictures only:
My wife and I decided that multiple accounts were a pain for various reasons. So, I was going to do a fresh install of SL, and just have one user.
I'm thinking that I cannot do a time-machine backup since it will maintain the current file/permissions structure. Should I just copy my files over to an external hard drive (exporting both of our bookmarks and my mail files) and drag them back? I'll be doing a clean install of SL so I will be re-installing all applications (I don't have many applications).
Any applications that needs to wake up my Mac just won't. I have no clue what is wrong and why these won't work.
For example:
-Awaken (for alarms)
-EyeTV3 (for show recordings)
I really want to get this fixed. Now I can't rely on Awaken or EyeTV to really do anything unless I'm there waking up my Mac on time. And I don't want to leave my Mac awake 24/7.
Every couple of days, after my screensaver has been running for a few minutes... both of my monitors will shut off. Then no matter what I do, they won't turn back on again. The only way to get them working again is to do a forced restart.
