PowerPC :: Airport Card Connection Suddenly Stopped Working
Oct 12, 2007
Last week, my airport connection suddenly stopped working (and I mean JUST as I was working on it, it started failing). It would connect to the network fine, but it could not communicate with the router through DHCP and even with a static IP, it could not transfer any network data. I put in my brother's working airport card, and it worked, so I ordered a refurbished airport card from ifixit.com. I put that in today, and it is showing the same symptoms of my old card. I don't have my brother's PowerBook to test his card again, so I don't know what to do.
The trackpad on my iBook G4 1.44ghz stopped working this morning! At first it went stuttery. I temporarily solved this by plugging in a mouse- without using the mouse itself, this seemed to make the trackpad responsive again.
After letting the iBook go to sleep, the trackpad doesn't work at all; nothing I do seems to make it respond. I've tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM, but this hasn't done anything.
Is there anything else I can do, short of buying a new trackpad?
eMac stopped recognizing the Airport Extreme Card. I tried restarting, resetting PRAM and the PMU, and pulling the card in and out. Is there anything else I can try?
Right recently I took my airport card out of my emac to see if it was normal or extreme (it be extreme). I took the antenna off it then examined it then I put it back in the same way it said on apples website. It seemed simple enough .But no! It didn't work! now my emac does not even pick up the card, it said its not installed! Seriously I've tried everything! even forcing it in and even acupuncture (not really just thought it was funny) right so my airport cards not working.
I've had this computer for many years and it has been trouble free. Recently, however, it's been losing the wifi signal. It'll keep it for a while, but then I'll see it fluctuate and eventually die. I can't seem to bring it back to life. I have an iPhone, apple tv and a laptop that all seem to have no trouble pickng up the wifi signal. Would this be a software or hardware issue? Could my airport card be dying? If so, is it fixable?
Suddenly command-W has stopped working on my system (OS X 10.6.4, iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). Instead of closing the current window or browser tab, it takes me to the Finder. I have tried rebooting, but it did not fix it.
I have a network with an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have two Macs connected by ethernet and an Iomega MiniMax hard drive connected to the base station by USB port. I have been running two printers, an HP Laserjet 1012 and Samsung CLP-315, connected by USB cables to the MiniMax hub. This setup has been running fine for several months. Yesterday, with no change in cabling, the printers stopped working. If I try to print to either printer, I get a message saying, "looking for printer..." If I connect either printer directly to the base station, I get the same message. If I connect the printers directly to either computer by USB cable, they both print fine. What can I do to get my original setup back working? I have tried restarting all the various components and reconnecting all the cables. I have checked to make sure I have the latest drivers for the printers.
Today when I tried to connect my charger, the charging light suddenly went out after a few seconds. It's never done this before, and now my computer isn't charging. I looked at several problems that were similar to this, and I've tried everything short of replacing the charger. I followed the link to the article that explains what to do in this situation; I checked absolutely everything on my charger that it told me to, and cleaned off the area around the magnetic pins. I tested the charger in several different outlets, with no results.Â
I also followed the steps to reset the SMC. That didn't work either. Something else that's important to note is that there is an area on my computer between the MagSafe power port and the Gigabit Ethernet port that is damaged. The plastic covering between these two ports had broken off about a week ago, and there is a prominent gap between them. But, my charger was still working just fine before today. Could this damage still have something to do with why my charger stopped working?
May iMac (OS 10.7.4) has suddenly stopped printing to my Epson CX4800 printer through Airport Extreme, though my MacBook (OS 10.5.8) continues to function just fine). The iMac will print if it is connected to the printer directly via USB. The iMac continues to connect to the Internet wirelessly. I've tried resetting the printer and ensuring the driver is up to date, but no joy.
It seems that during my afternoon class, I shut down my macbook and then when I went to use it about 10 minutes later the keyboard nor the trackpad works. Now the keyboard/trackpad is not defective as it works via the OSX install cd and it works in Windows Vista (dual booted) When ever I start up OSX it just comes up and the mouse is in the upper left hand corner, and the keyboard doesn't work at all. I have tried a pram reset by pressing command + option + p + r and that did nothing. When I am in OSX the only way to get out is to hold down the power button till the macbook turns off. What else could be wrong is there anything I can do, the nearest Apple store is about 80 miles away so I am trying to avoid that at this point as it seems like a software issue.
I have a network printer setup at my house, and it suddenly stopped working. Here's my setup.
Mac (printing computer): Macbook Pro, 10.6.3. Router: Generic router. "Server": Acer netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate Printer: Samsung CLX-3170 series color laserjet I use LPD and this is what I type in:
192.168.10.9 (This is the netbook's IP address. The printer's sharename in Windows 7 is CLX3175.This printer was working fine, but it just suddenly stopped working just now. Does anyone have ideas?
My Mail.app has been working fine with my [URL] account for yonks but has now suddenly stopped working. I either get a constant spinner next to the account or a warning sign that says something about bandwidth limits exceeded.
My blackberry gets my email fine, as does Evolution on Ubuntu 10.04. This has been on going for about a week and I've even archived any messages that have lots of pictures in them. Still no luck.
Mail is working with my other google apps accounts for about four different domains but _not_ with my [URL] account.
Two or three days ago, the topmost line of my keyboard (contains esc, brightness, expose, dashboard, play/pause, mute, eject, etc.) suddenly stopped working. Strangely, some of the keys have switched functions: expose opens a search bar, keyboard dimmer refreshes the webpage, keyboard brighter selects the web address, play/pause is now shows Spaces, skip forward is expose, and sound increase is dashboard. I reset my keyboard, but nothing changed.
I prefer to view PDFs in Safari. However, starting this morning, when I click on a PDF file it opens in Preview. I checked Cocktail to make sure I hadn't accidentally disabled Safari's built-in support. I hadn't. How can I re-enable it?
I had my computer plugged into some external computer speakers (nothing where I had to downlaod any software, I have used these speakers before), and when I removed them, all of a sudden the built in speakers weren't working. I tried to adjust the vollume, but I get the volume image with a little "forbidden" circle and cross underneath. I tried adjusting the settings in System Preferences, but when I got to the audio settings there was only the one "Optical digital-out port". I then updated my computer, but still no luck. Lastly I went to Utilities and to Audio Midi Setup to reset everything to the default settings, but I am unable to adjust everything. It's all that lighter shade of grey that tells me I can't select it.Â
I was charging my macbook. It was charging when I left, upon my return, after about 30 minutes, I found that the light was no longer green. There was no light on at all. I tried restarting multiple times. There are no stuck prongs in my power cord. I tried different outlets. I tested the outlet to verify it worked. My computer will charge fine with other power cords, but just not the one I want it to use? Is there anything else I can try before purchasing a new cord?
My iMac's built-in bluetooth suddenly stopped working. Can I troubleshoot or replace it? It is an early 2008 Intel iMac. Suddenly the Bluetooth logo changed to the one with the jagged line through it. Bluetooth no longer shows in System Prefs. In the hardware list under Bluetooth it now says, No information found.
I have a one month old "late 2011 model" unibody Macbook Pro where the HDMI output just suddenly stopped working with no changes in configuration. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, switched HDMI cables, cold rebooting everything, tried different HDMI ports, different resolutions on the TV and switched audio output settings, nothing works. When I plug the cable in the Mac switches resolutions, recognizes the TV in the Displays preference panel and correctly identifies it as a Toshiba, but doesn't send any audio or video signals to the TV.
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
NO issues until this morning. Put computer to sleep and it would not boot back up properly (stuck on Apple boot screen and it FINALLY came on after many tries). Now my wifi or ethernet won't actually "connect" to the internet. It says connected under network preferences and it's green, but I have no internet connection...Â
All of a sudden the copy and paste function just stopped working. I'm running a 2007 imac intel with Snow Leopard on it. Tried rebooting several times. I'm not even sure it's the paste, it will not copy. Not with key command, not with right click, not with drop menu. Tried different keyboard.
I have a 27" iMac and I'm using Samsung SyncMaster SA850 as a second monitor (connected via a display Port cable with a mini Display Port adapter). Everything worked fine until yesterday - the Samsung screen turned black and now it only works with max resolution 1280 x 1024 (native is 2440x1440). I think I upgraded Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 (I don't remember for sure though). When I connect the monitor to an iMac with 10.7.2 everything works fine. And another iMac with 10.7.3 has the same problem as me.
